  1. I'll second that: thanks for the date, RF. Soo.. the 1-year anniversary of a major GS offering came and went? Happy belated birthday, Wherigo!
  2. Looks good, but I'm still hoping to get the coin I ordered waaaay back when. Any idea how long the *entire* shipping process will take? Just a ballpark, say January X to January Y??! I haven't received any email about a shipment.
  3. Makes sense, but I think Groundspeak does an average-to-rather-poor job of communication. I can't remember the last time I saw a GS lackey (or honcho, for that matter) post something in this forum. It's been even longer since there was any mention of "the future." Heck, I'd settle for a SOW ("State of Wherigo") message. Just curious, when was/is the official one-year anniversary of Wherigo? Anyone? Bueller? Bueller?? Frye?

    Wherigo Logo

I'd be curious to see this (the logo file, that is) if and when J2B2 finds something.
  5. Hmmn. I don't see it on the 400t "updates & downloads" page. Is 2.9 for all Colorado models?
  6. Just for kicks, I thought I'd start jotting down a few ideas regarding cartridge-building. My strong suit is the creative end of things, but I'm sure I'll tackle the technical side as well. Ideally, I want to write something every day, but that's a tall order, I know. Anyway, if you're interested, take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks!--JJG10101 Here's the link: http://wherigodev.blogspot.com/
  7. Maybe I'll create a coin showing the Titanic's hull at the bottom of the ocean, split open with piles of money all around it. The text would say something like "I guess my money went down with the ship!"
  8. Yep, I've used "Show a series of dialogue messages" several times. It comes in handy when you're trying to convey a good deal of text (or several distinct thoughts) to the player at one time. I like it!
  9. I had a tough time publishing a cartridge last Friday. The builder asked me to login (so I did), but I kept getting an error screen. Finally, I logged in to Wherigo.com *before* publishing from the builder. That did the trick, but the system thinks I've created five versions. Nah, just one.
  10. I wonder if there's been any word on this one. As I just finished my fourth cartridge, I'm looking forward to the day that the "OnEnter" functions as it should. I witnessed a bunch of folks at one of my cartridges yesterday, and it's a bit goofy that a player with a Garmin Colorado has to wander around, wait, wander around, wait, wander around.. while trying to hit zero. It's a pain, to say the least. Does anyone know if Garmin is aware of this, and what their response is? Just curious.

    Upload Issues

Hmmn. I just had a tough time uploading my latest cartridge ("Trail of the Ripper"). I kept getting kicked out of the system, until I tried something: logging in to Wherigo.com first *before* publishing the file from the builder. Eh, maybe the server was thinking about the weekend. ;-) Anyhoo, if there are any lackeys looking at this message, could you reset the version history to 1.0?? Thanks! JJG10101
  12. Garmin is big. Really, really big. Would it surprise you to learn that total revenue, as reported last December, was $3.1 billion? Profit was equally astronomical, at $1.4 billion. That's one big butterfly. All things being equal, I'm more interested in the healthcare plans they offer their employees, or what they think makes for a "green," socially-responsible company. I'm not trying to be sarcastic, but I think they can afford to hand out a few geocoins.
  13. A few more fine lines: Since Garmin coins are handed out by Garmin, a large corporation that makes a good deal of money selling GPS units, I view them as promotional items for the company. Lackey and volunteer/admin coins are given to select people and the coin pages clearly state they're not to be sold. The Garmin coins don't include any such restrictions, and clearly several of them *have* been sold. If you won a TV in a Best Buy contest, would you have any qualms about selling it? I doubt I would. I support Garmin (by, among other things, purchasing three of their units), and a contest prize isn't the same as a coin given to me by a friend or Groundspeak. Yeah, it's another fine line. I often quote Dennis Miller "That's just my opinion, I could be wrong."
  14. Does it make a difference? Well, I guess I don't sell stuff that was gifted to me. But that's just me. That's a fair point, I'll buy that. As for receiving 10 coins.. well, it was a Groundspeak Waymarking contest. Just by coincidence, we happened to be in Seattle in early August. If you go to Waymarking.com, you can still see the rules and winners. Look for the "Seattle Art & Seek" promotion. Anyway, long story short, I submitted 10 waymarks for public art in Seattle, and all 10 won. And yes, I really do consider myself lucky.
  15. I'll be honest: I don't see the problem with selling it. I recently received 10 "Waymarking Bounty" coins, and sold off four of 'em on eBay. Of the remaning six, I kept four, traded one, and gave one away. Is that a bad thing? I'd be hard-pressed to find a reason why. Of the three "Oregon" coins I received today, I'm considering selling two. Really, does it make a difference?
  16. Cool coin. It reminds me of these: Yep, I was the other winner.
  17. Man, I feel lucky! The postman just dropped off three Garmin "Oregon" coins. They look very much like the Colorado coins, 'cept for the GPS unit pictured is different(!) and there are trees (instead of mountains) in the background. How did I get 'em? I won a contest on the Garmin blog. Cool stuff.
  18. I'm on the lookout for one of the Illinois coins, the one that looks like a large penny. I'm originally from Chicago, and had high hopes for a White Sox/Cubs World Series, but that didn't happen. Maybe next year!
  19. I love the design on this one. I even bought a few extra (of the red version) to hand out as Easter presents.
  20. I dunno, it's easy to say "you-shouldn't-have-posted" but I, for one, appreciate being kept in the loop. I had no idea what was going on, until I asked if anyone had heard any news. To my surprise, several people *did* hear something. I didn't. Also, the content of the letter didn't seem like it needed to be confidential. If you read the forums, you already know what happened. I say Jim should continue to be upfront, honest, and keep everyone informed, not just those that somehow made it to the semi-official "customer" list. Eh, I'm thinking the coin will show up.. around Groundhog Day. At least, that's my guess.
  21. There was an email sent out yesterday with an update. I can only assume people on their customer list got it. Well... I paid for a Titanic coin in June (just one, thankfully). Does that make me a customer?? I didn't receive any e-mail. Could you summarize what it said?
  22. Unless I'm mistaken, the letter mentioned something about updates every 7-10 days. Has anyone seen an update?
  23. Yay! My prize arrived today. Thanks so much for a fun cointest and a more-funner prize.
  24. I'll second that. The cointest was great fun, it's obvious many cachers are quite talented in the rhyming department.
