  1. One nice thing about caching in the winter. If you're new, you can go after caches that were recently found. The footprints through the snow can help you find the cache.
  2. hmmm..... we have always logged the find and sent an email at the same sitting. In fact, no one has ever sent a reply email confirming that we had the correct answers, that I can think of ....
  3. When we travel by car, we check the website before our trip to find potential caches by going to the Main Page, then "Search for a cache" (or whatever the pull-down menu says that is similar to that), then choose a state that we will be driving through. Once you have chosen a state, there should be a MAP option at the top of the page. Click on that, and it will show little cache icons. Zoom in to the area that the highway goes through, then click on "Identify." Below the map, the names of caches will appear as links, and you can view them individually and choose the ones that look like they would be good "grab and go" caches for travellers. Hope this helps!
  4. I can think of a time when we were "sure" that a cache was missing from its hiding space, only to return home and find that someone else had found it the same day we were there, lol!!! We had been wrong about the location. So I can understand why some cachers may feel that it is improper to make a claim without having actually seen and touched the cache. On the other hand, I have also seen a cache that was placed in a hollow tree, which fell over into a river, but didn't float away. People could see the cache, but it was too dangerous to retrieve it and sign the log! I think in that case, claiming a find was justified. Just goes to show ya that each case is unique!!!
  5. My turn to see if I am too stupid to figure out the Avatar test.....
  6. It's also helpful to have a dog. I recently found myself walking Lucy for over half an hour in the same small area in a public park. The poor thing got frustrated, but I think it gave me a good "cover" as I tried to find a very challenging cache that was out in the open.
  7. This is the Lucy of Lucy and Co. She almost always comes along on our cache hunts (or swims).
  8. We live in Crown Point, which is in the NW corner. There really aren't many caches close by, so we've been scouting for good locations.
