  1. Our first out of state find was Hope & Happiness in San Diego, CA. We hit that one and the Anniversary Cache on Catalina Island last year while on a cruise for our anniversary. We have cached in AZ, CA & NM. We hope to add some other states one of these days.
  2. I enjoy getting out and doing "nature walks", I enjoy doing something besides sitting home and watching tv or playing video games, I really enjoy the fact that it is something my husband and our son enjoy also. We took time out of our last minute prep to go caching Sun. We moved along a TB and I got to try out my new gps. Probably won't get the Dr's OK to do anything more than park & grabs for few months but as I improve (and the Dr OKs it) I want to take up hiking and try some caches with more than a 2 rated terrain.
  3. Congrats to your wife! I am totally AMAZED that you accidentally had your GPS (preloaded with info even!) in your car....what an awesome bit of serendippity!
  4. I never cache alone...I'm a gimp (soon to be fixed) and don't have my own GPS (also soon to be fixed). I cache with the other hubby 1/2 of RedSky and/or our son, Zolgar. I don't think that once I have my new hip and my own GPS I'll still be very likely to cache alone, I enjoy the company of my guys and also the safety.
  5. We drive a Honda Odessey mini-van. Why? It has enough room for 2 dog crates side by side in the back, plus either 4 people or 2 people and a lot of stuff. We replaced a Saturn sedan with this because I needed a vehicle that I could use to dog shows and one that wasn't so low to the ground. I'd love to have a 4x4 for caching but that would be the only need for 4wd.
  6. What would you estimate shipping to 85713? And do you take paypal? If the shipping isn't too high I am very interested.
  7. Just this last weekend we picked up a tape measure and a night light that were company advertising and we have also picked up lanyards. This stuff can be darn useful no matter what name is on it. Just had a thought...I've worked for my company for 6 1/2 years and the only thing (besides paperwork) I have with the company name/logo is a coffee mug that I won in my forst week with the company (and we had a different name then!).
  8. If I stumbled across that it would most likely freak me out, then I'd have a good laugh. If I was out caching and found something like that near the coordinates I'd have a good laugh and figure the hider had a twisted sense of humor
  9. Ever since I was very young I wanted raise, train and show dogs. With my children grown I finally had the time and (I thought) the money to go for it. Dog #1 (red merle in my avatar) was a real bargain at $250...I can not even begin to add up the expenses involved for crate, collars, leashes, training classes, micro chip, yearly vet care, OFA & CERF testing, food, dog treats, bought a Honda Odessey in part because it will hold 2 crates side by side in the back + all our show goodies, pop-up canopy, chairs, cart to haul stuff, training jumps, weave poles on and on. Add entry fee of $25 per class per show per dog, gas costs, motel & meal costs on out of town/state shows. But the thrill of getting your first ribbon....priceless! Shiloh has his Rally Novice, his Canine Good Citizen and his Companion Dog (for both AKC and ASCA). I am out of showing now because of my hip but should be able to pick back up next year. And the dogs in the avatar will have a litter late Apr (so now the costs add pre-natal & post-natal care, well puppy exam, puppy shots, tail docking, dew claw removal, extra food, whelping box......)
  10. I work as a direct support provider in a day program for adults with developmental disabilities and some with mental illness. Husband 1/2 of the team is an electronics tech for a defense contractor. So....he works in a bomb factory and I work in a loony bin. Is it any wonder we need a relaxing hobby
  11. I almost always grab a bouncy ball if there is one in the cache! I got some good size Elmo ones to leave in big enough caches.
  12. As a geocaching woman who hikes through mud, thrashes through thorns and climbs cliffs for fun when I'm not geocaching, I don't think smelly candles are the kind of thing I'd be looking to take from a geocache! However, I would appreciate a tape measure, they always come in useful! p.s. smelly candles make me sneeze. I actually got a tape measure today, a nice little retractable one and a nightlight. As for smelly candles...ewww I can imagine the mess they would make in a Tucson cache most of the year and the possible vermin the fragrance might attract. While I am off work on disability leave (most likely 3 months starting mid Apr) I plan to make some "signature" swag keychains from polymer clay. Today I left Easter toys in all caches we visited that were large enough as well as my normal swag items and my calling card.
  13. Not all terrain ratings are created equal, read the logs if you have difficulty with rougher terrain. Muggles just don't understand why you would drive to a neighboring state to move a TB (well and shop for fireworks ) The fun of the search is worth the pain. Geocaching is a great way to spend a day with the ones you love.
  14. RedSky refers to the beautiful southern Arizona sunsets. The Aussies in my avatar are RedSky at Night Shal's Delight (Shiloh) and RedSky Dark and Stormy Night (Storm). (Moose & Patches don't have fancy RedSky names but are RedSky Aussies just the same)
  15. Puppymonster...please send address for sending cookies...none of those Milkbones though, you'll have to settle for Innova cookies, large size of course As for the super secret membership...maybe Shiloh or Storm could qualify.
  16. Next month I am getting my right hip replaced. I am wondering if any other cachers out there have an artificial hip and how it effects caching.
  17. If you share a GPS kindly ask that he let you hold the GPS and find the path you prefer. If you each have your own simply place nearly dead batteries in his befoer starting out I am the female half of our team and many times we also cache with our grown son, Zolgar. My guys are a real blessing, they scout out the best path for me to take and never leave me behind unless I tell them too. I don't have my own GPS yet but one of them is always willing to pass me one if they leave me. Our last caching trip one cache was a little too much of a hike and way too tough of terrain so I sent them on ahead and geo-pup, Shiloh, and I enjoyed a slow ramble along the path and the beautiful scenery and eventually the guys got back to me and helped me to the van. Hopefully once I recover from my hip replacement (early next month!) I'll not be as limited on terrain.
  18. I think that is a great idea. On a recent cache our son, Zolgar, grabbed a chunk of antique barbed wire with an attatched info card. Pretty cool find in our book. We haven't hit on a "signature" swag item yet, still pretty new at this.
  19. We recently drove over 300 miles RT to hit a few caches (and move along a TB that wanted to visit every state) in New Mexico. We went with our son, Zolgar, and one of our geo-pups, Shiloh, so we figured a tank of gas was cheap for a whole day of good family fun. And it is cheaper than spending the day shopping Tomorrow we will be making 100 mile or so RT for another family day of caching.
  20. I, for one, hope the Powers That Be relent and allow them to continue to offer us great deals. I recently purchased a PDA from the Battons and got a great deal and freindly and efficient service. It is not like these folks are making accounts here for the sole purpose of selling their items and then vanishing after a few sales. Good luck guys!
  21. I never cache alone, I always have my husband with me and sometimes my "kid" who has the look that most people won't mess with. Plus I enjoy having one or more of my Aussies with me.
  22. Welcome to the sport! We are a husband & wife (and our Aussie geo-pups) team who are alse new to caching. Our grown (he is still not an adult, we all refuse to grow up!) son, Zolgar, introduced us to caching. I have limited mobility so sometimes I can't quite make it to the cache but I have a grand time trying! Sometimes Zolgar and husband half, Rick, run the cache down to me so I can pick the goodies. Who knew hunting for hidden Tupperware could be so much fun?
  23. Sunday, while getting a cache in New Mexico, we had our first LEO encounter. A Border Patrol officer stopped to see what we were doing. We told him exactly what we were doing. He said he had some friends that were geocachers. We chatted for a little while. He warned us that the area we were in was frequented by smugglers and might not be safe after dark (it was nearing sunset). He was very nice and even found Zolgar's stash of fireworks (not legal to buy in AZ) amusing. As he was pulling out after our chat a sheriff deputy pulled in, he never talked to us though just the BPO.
  24. RedSky Aussies is what we hope to have as our kennel name should we ever start breeding Australian shepherds again. Geo-pup #1 is Shiloh (RedSky at Night Shal's Delight), geo-pup #2 is Storm (RedSky Dark and Stormy Night)... geo-pups #3 & #4 are rescues w/o reg names...Moose & Patches. We are a husband and wife team.
