  1. These were a pain in the tuchus to make but the first round is mobile. I've got another set that should be shipping out soon. Should you encounter them in your caching, all knowledge of their mission will be denied. EyeSpy Camp-X EyeSpy Gimpel's Gambit EyeSpy La Dame Qui Boite EyeSpy Margaretha Zelle EyeSpy 001
  2. From the travel bug log, it looks like Wadcutter picked Karate Man up back in the beginning of May Karate Man Page It looks like he's had it for about 3 weeks which isn't so long to wait for a travel bug to be placed but if you want you can send Wadcutter an email by clicking the link below. I wouldn't worry though as it looks like Wadcutter picks up alot of travel bugs. Send Wadcutter an email Your email could look something like this: Hi my name is Ahiker. I am Jayhiker's grandson. From the GC website, I believe that you picked up our travel bug, Karate Man. I am watching his progress with my grandfather. Can you tell me if he will be placed in another cache soon? Thank you for taking care of our travel bug.
  3. There was a guy out of BC that used to balance rocks like this. Occasionally you'd see them around Calgary along the Bow river while hiking. Definitely freaky. http://rock-on-rock-on.com/gallery.html
  4. Here's one that I'll be placing in the near future with instructions so you can play along at home. I added some magnets to the top to center the lid when its rotated closed.
  5. You can always slab the sides, then cut out the cache hollow from the heart section, then nail the heart end caps and slabs back together. A wood preservative might be a good idea also.
  6. A little more digging. I found this at the Keep America Beautiful site co-sponsored by Phillip Morris. http://www.kabspo.com/products/pat999.cfm Not free either but it seems the orders are geared to organizations as the smallest quantity is 100. They are a little nicer though as they seem to be reusable. Maybe they can send you a sample or two?
  7. It it's the one that I'm thinking of, it was a program run by RJ Reynolds called Smokers for a Clean America. They're no longer running the program http://www.cigarettelitter.org/index.asp?p...me=FreeAshtrays but you might contact them at the following phone number address to see if they have any left over or who their supplier was. General 1-800-372-9300 Rogene Furches, R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company, P.O. Box 2959, Winston-Salem, NC 27102 Along those lines, a foil lined hotdog bag may serve as a replacment. Bagcraft also makes bags called flamepaks which are foil line for carry out food. You might contact them to see if they any ideas. Lastly, thanks for being thoughtful enough to pack'em out.
  8. Cool, finally a good news story about an MIA!
  9. I found this awhile back but had forgotten about them until reminded recently. http://www.witzprod.com/ I'm currenly using a similar one for Empeg M2 TB to protect it on it's journey but they could be used for micros also.
  10. Or scan your tag and print it on shrinky dink plastic http://shrinkydinks.goemerchant7.com/index...&ExpandedDepts=
  11. You asked for it.... http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=113344. SWMBO and I raced through the Louvre the other day at closing time. Pretty clear that changes have been made since Dan Brown's research. The Lady on the Rocks is not in the same room as the Mona Lisa anymore. We couldn't see any gates that would come down if he pulled down the Carpaccio(?) painting. He also completely missed the location of the American Embassy off of Rivoli. The roseline in St. Sulpice is as amazing as described in the book. It bisects the altar and leads to an obelisk in the corner. Happy caching!
  12. Eh, we walked all around St. Sulpice trying to find a decent place for a hide for a micro but it's tough to get a lock in the concrete canyons. The rose line in the church is very cool although we quickly determined that the book took some creative license with the architecture of the church. We keep saying that we're going to get back to the Louvre to map out the action in the book but we haven't had a chance yet. I'll post a virtual if I get a chance. Paris needs more traditional caches though.
  13. I'm not selling them but I am having a few made for myself. I opted for the glow in the dark plastic instead of the metal bodies due to cost. Here's the graphics that will be on the outside. The geocaching URL is on one side and the bug logo is on the other. (closer to actual size) The place that makes them is http://www.escopes.com/. They can be a little tough to get a hold of though. Since I've already paid for the graphics for the outside, you should be able to have some made with graphics also for the cost of the bodies and the microfilm inside. Shoot them an email to find out cost per micro. You'll still need a travel bug dog tag # though and an image file for the micro mission. I just put together this word document to help me generate the files for my micros. I'm not sure if it will work for you but you are welcome to it. Just a reminder, this is all cool if you are just doing them for yourself but because these use the geocaching logos, unless the owners of the board / logos agree, you cannot sell them. See the terms of use page if you have questions. I am really happy with the prototypes and hope the plastic ones are as cool. I'll post pics once I get the plastic ones back.
  14. I had the same problem in Paris with the only caches nearby being micros. This is what I did. http://forums.Groundspeak.com/GC/index.php?showtopic=25855 http://www.geocaching.com/track/details.aspx?ID=46926
  15. "Your idea is great but the cost is a bit higher than I would personally want to pay." Granted they would cost more than tagging a found object, such a doll or key chain, but, personally, it would be worth it to have the mission and bug in one object that fits in a micro cache. I've seen something similar in pet stores, for ID tags... Here you go You're right it's the same thing as the pet tags. As to the etching, I was planning on having these logos etched on the side but maybe TRAVEL BUG written on the side isn't such a bad idea. . If there is interest, I'll bring it up to Jeremy et al as a potential item for the store.
  16. During the discussion about replacing the metal tags with plastic, I had an idea that it would be nice to have a bug that could be placed in a micro-cache AND that solved the problem of having a mission attached since I live in a city where traditional caches are not common. As a result of an ill-spent youth and a moment of inspiration, I remembered the eye spy toys we used to get in cereal boxes and wondered if something similar could be done. The answer is below and it rocks. So anyone else interested in these? I'm investigating costs right now but they'd likely be $10-15/bug.
  17. I'm seeing the same problem with the distance/speed on the map not populating. So if anyone knows if its related to a setting, then please let me know.
  18. I haven't heard anything to suggest its dead. Life just has a way of inserting itself when you least expect. I'm sure David will update us when he has something. I the meantime, I was playing MoHAA the other day and was struck by the fact the compass would make a great cache finder (See below) which led to the thought that all the PC and Xbox games that I've played were just training for geocaching. How many radar displays have you seen that would make a killer cache finding tool??
  19. I bought a set with that plan in mind but I'm having second thoughts because I like them sitting next to my computer.
  20. David, thanks for the continuing efforts. I've been able to test v1.09 for the past couple of weeks. I'm hitting a couple of bugs. I won't bother re-describing the DB load error. The ones I haven't seen mentioned are a crash on exit that wipes out my registration info and settings. I can forward a screen shot if it helps. Turning off the Ipaq while cachedragon is running causes what appears to be a substantial memory leak. The application reappears but the screen takes about 30 seconds to repaint and then redraw times get prgressivley worse. You might want to take a look at the coordinate fields on the map and location screens. If the default coordinate units are changed the text field clips or wraps the longitudinal coorindates so that they are not visible. This one may be user error but the cache locations do not show on the map until I go to the location database and click show on map for single cache then all of them show. If I understand the distance field on the map screen correctly, it acts as an odometer for the current track but the field is empty at all times whether a track is turned on or not. Related to this field, it would be helpful to have a "distance to cache" and a heading field on one of the compass screens. There are a couple of other things that I've noticed but I'll have to check my notes. Please let me know if you need additional details.
  21. I have but won't again. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=10684
  22. I'm checking to see if this is possible. I thought it would be great to have micro-cache travel bugs. Their website is Escopes
  23. as77, fair enough. I understand why you'd view it that way. If I'm out of line, I apologize. I would very much like to see CD take off and probably overreacted to your "obviously". It looks like David has opened it up to everyone so hopefully, it'll work for all of us.
  24. I would and did as I'm sure others have. I get the crash on lock bug also with my Holux CF card but I registered anyway. CacheDragon is a good idea and too many good ideas die because no one gets behind them. quote:Originally posted by as77:...because nobody will pay $20 for a program that does not work.
