  1. I'm a gadget guy. I was just surfing the net and came across an article on geocaching. So, I had the perfect reason to buy one! ==Case
  2. The story actually discussed a few good uses for the GPS: The watch parents could use to track their kids. The city buses loaded with a unit, so that a digital clock at the bus stop could tell awaiting passengers how many minutes until the bus arrived. A plan to have all future cell phones loaded with a GPS unit, so that 911 systems can tell exactly where you are to allow for faster response time. Interesting and concerning at the same time. ==Case
  3. I think that if the new owners continue to support the cache and are not just doing it totally for advertisement purposes, then continue to grandfather it. However, there is no real way to tell the difference. Just grandfather it and monitor it to see if they keep up the cache. If not, archive it. ==Case
  4. Yeah, I saw a commercial for that, too. Looks like a pretty interesting story. Maybe they'll mention geocaching... ==Case
  5. When I first got on the 'net my AOL username was Casel98. Casel is my middle name and 98 was the year. I used to chat in a chatroom for a hiphop radio show based in Florida. Whenever the DJ would read the names of everyone in the chatroom he thought the L was the number 1. = Case one-ninety-eight. I got tired of correcting him, so I officially changed it. Plus, I think Case_198 sounds cooler! ==Case P.S. I really need to change my avatar.....

  7. I'm not quite sure how that would work. Would you put up the coordinates for your house and have seekers ring your doorbell? "Excuse me, but I'm here to use your webcam? Don't worry I'm a decent guy. I wouldn't harm you or your family." Please explain. Maybe I'm just dumb...Ok, that is quite a possibility!

  9. I'll mention it when I refer to my GPSr. Example: "My MeriGold was about 20ft off target at this cache" If a log said to put my GPSr type, I would. ==Case
  10. Pronounced CASH ==Case
  11. I like to read that part of the cache page to see how much the contents have changed since it was originally placed. It doesn't affect if I go to a cache or not, just another interesting aspect of the game. Its kind of like a social experiment. You wonder why some items stay in the cache for months and others only one day. ==Case
  12. quote:Originally posted by Risa: This will be my first geocaching experience. I live in Charleston, SC. Where is a good place to locate my first cache? Risa, I'm in Charleston, too. We just started geocaching last weekend. There are already some good ones around here. I'm scouting spots for my first placement,too. I think I'm going to get a few under my belt before I place my first one. Just to find out what I like/dislike about others in the area. Good luck! Maybe we'll run into each other out there! ==Case
  13. Wow, that's great Wayne! I'm glad that you've changed your way of thinking like that. I think this sport has changed everyone that has gotten involved with it. For me I've rediscovered the outdoors. I'm a big net surfer and enjoyed hours of endless pointing and clicking. Now I've noticed that I've been getting out more. I'm starting to run again. I'm looking into buying my first kayak in a few months. (Ok I admit that the original reason was to place tougher caches!). Geocaching is more than a game! ==Case
  14. quote:Originally posted by sivad: Where can you buy the sd cards cheaply? I am a tight wad ( Iwork for the sate) lol I just bought my first 32MB SD card from www.newegg.com for $25 plus $9 shipping and handling. I've heard Buy.com has good prices, too. ==Case

  16. quote:Originally posted by player: "and you can also use them to send waypoint data to your Magellan GPS." Can you really load waypoints to the Magellan without a SD card? Yup, before I received my SD card last week, I was loading waypoints into my Meridian manually and by using EasyGPS. You will need the SD card for the MapSend detail maps, though. ==Case
  17. Wow, that's really a great idea and original, too! I'm gonna hafta watch these and hope one stops near by! ==Case
  18. Adding all these rules will take some of the fun out of it. I always log my finds (all three!), but I have seen some entries on some of the caches I watch: "Nice Cache. Thanks!" and wonder if they even visited the place. I guess those who do that just miss out on all the fun! I would much rather watch my count slowly rise and have the satisfaction of the hunt under my belt. ==Case

  20. I don't know about them being worth a fortune, but they will be worth more a decade or so down the road. I may have to stop by the bank and pick me up a roll! ==Case

  22. I say definitely email him first if he never responds then I would consider it "abandoned" and place my own cache. The next question would be how long would you wait after you emailed him. A week? A month? If a person doesn't take care of his/her cache then they should at least remove it from the listing until the time they are able to replenish it. ==Case
