  1. Hang on ... does the cache sheet say 5* 5* . a milestone cache .. .. or does it say:- Difficulty: Terrain: "A quick drive by cache. The title should be a give away for this cache location. Twentieth in the series. Parking available close by. Please tuck this one back in carefully out of sight due to the location. The cache is a micro." Easy to see how anyone could be misled and pick this for a milestone ...... and you are perfectly entitled to slag it off for not delivering the goods.... ! Isn't it wonderful that we have such an opinionated and informed vociferous minority including representatives of GAGB, none of whom have been close to the cache.... Isn't it strange that 24 of the 25 cache finders all found the location to be scenically pleasing ... which may corroborate with the legions of coach loads of tourists who constantly visit the area. Isn't it sad that anyone would use this to draw attention to their otherwise unacknowledged milestone. ps Well done on your 500th Kwefriend Slainge Bob sp edit
  2. Yes , the message isn't very enlightening...... Register your copy of MM again on the new PC and it will work...
  3. I once threatened to place a cache on Bute in revenge for "Whose fault is it" and told Ewan that I would get "Nightfeeder" to maintain it... Repy was that I'd have hundreds of complaints if the only Bute Joiner was fixing caches instead of doors... Might be a chance to keep an eye on his Bute caches for a wee while Robert....
  4. Hi Dave, Happened to me once .....Its a quirk of MM ..... if you down load MM for trial, or update to a more recent version, you lose your registration.... ( they treat both the same ) .... Just go back to the register page and re-register and all will be fine..... Slainge Bob
  5. Time to look out your tent..... or grab some accomodation.....
  6. I think you'll find that if you pay via Paypal automatically, then you'll be debited $30 each year at the exchange rate at that time. So, if the dollar weakens further, you'll pay less in pounds; if it bounces back, you'll pay more. Paypal aren't in the business of incurring exchange rate risks, and that's what they'd be doing if they let you lock in today's exchange rate, because Paypal will have to use the exchange rate at the future date to do the conversion. "exchange rate for this purchase is 1 GBP = 1.93586USD Subscription Terms: $30.00 USD for each year Your subscription will automatically renew at the rates stated above unless you cancel prior to the end of the billing period. If you have any questions or concerns about this subscription, please contact Groundspeak." This was the quote on the pay pal email......its pretty unambiguous Slainge Bob ( ps Paypal charges are about 2.9% + $0.30 per transaction......they don't lose out on exchange rates. ever.... all that happens will be that the recipient will get slightly less .....)
  7. I have got this exchange rate with paypal just now - £15.36 GBP from Visa/Delta/Electron XXXX-XXXX-XXXX-XXXX PayPal's Exchange Rate as at 21 Apr. 2007: 1 Pound Sterling = 1.95332 US Dollars I am however doing it manually and not automatic renewal. Hi Dave The point I was trying to make was that if you choose to pay your subscription by Paypal, if you choose to pay automatically , then irrespective of the "current" exchange rate , all future payments will be at the agreed rate .......... so fluctuations in the £/$ dont matter a jot.....
  8. Another aspect of the current exchange rate ..... if you pay by "Paypal" the current rate is permanent if you opt for automatic renewal of subs.... " Quote" exchange rate for this purchase is 1 GBP = 1.93586USD Subscription Terms: $30.00 USD for each year Your subscription will automatically renew at the rates stated above unless you cancel prior to the end of the billing period. If you have any questions or concerns about this subscription, please contact Groundspeak.
  9. Hello team bike&ski..... try logging into GCUK ..... (you may need to create an account) search from one of your destinations and do a GIS map..... should allow you to look at all the caches within "striking distance " good luck ..ps if you still have probs... just shout... Slainge Bob
  10. true ... but you can display the Smart Name as a field on GSAK and if there is any ambiguity in the waypoint name , its dead easy to edit and override it to whatver you want it called ...... so "FIFEROCA" could be changed to "FIFER1" say..... Bet you wish you had persevered with GSAK AB
  11. True ...its not a secret... Access in Scotland Strange though it may sound .... (if you aren't aquainted with Scottish laws ) ..... you are welcome to go wherever you wish in Scotland..... only 1 condition....... behave responsibly ..... Isn't that an easy concept....
  12. Only 26.......???? Hardly worth the effort of attending then ! Isn't as if it were in an attractive part of the country or anything.... .... !
  13. Yes ..I'm a Magellan Sportrak colour user ....lots of nice features ...electronic compass etc.... Reliability is excellent ..... but.... (there is always a but) my biggest complaint was that Magellan dont allow you to switch off Waas.......(unless you go into debug mode) and Magellan units by default accept all Waas signals .... ( even if they are test mode ).... the "Under Tree" reputation is based on an algorithnm used when the signal is ropey/lost.... but its excellent.... Check out the prices on the market..... Magellan appear to have dropped this series in favour of the 100 etc...so you could get a very good price.... though E 100 is hard to compete with.... Oh ..and unlike Garmin, you probably wont hear of legandry aftercare service...possibly because they dont use dodgy glue and flakey screens to start with.... Would I buy another ?.... Yes Yes Yes
  14. Well actually I think this shouldn't be locked.....not everyone using this forum is computer literate, if you are being pragmatic, the GAGB website is at best insecure, and more realistically ... pretty flaky ! Previously,I've been caught out by a virus on GAGB when I logged on,but the bottom line is that whoever has a grudge has achieved their aims ..... GAGB site is NOT secure , and despite valient attemps to remove the "virus (es)" when found it goes on and on ..... personally I wouldn't touch it with the proverbial bargepole ...and in all sincerity, its irresponsible to continue showing links to the site until some degree of security can be demonstrated .... slainge Bob
  15. Using that argument ...you could dispense with France Italy Spain etc...same land mass / currency freedom to cross borders and arguably controlling parliament....hey they've got unique regions so problem solved....they can search by regions. Just a joke.... but I'm still mystified why Jersey / IOM /Gibraltar all merit the ability to have unique identities, yet we in the UK are "grouped"...... slainge Bob edited for sp.
  16. If you look at the Countries list, one of the fundamental issues has been overlooked , i.e the need to create 4 countries ....England ;Northern Ireland;Scotland and Wales.... and not a generic UK Otherwise as has been mentioned, searches which arent "county" specific can pick up other countries...France / IOM/ Northern Ireland.
  17. Alas its true PP.. its a calulated gamble..... By definition, off-line databases can never be "Fully up-to date"...but the trade off is that you have ample PQs` to run to update the areas that you are particularly interested in.... Extra Pq's can only be a temporary expedient, surely the solution would be to have "Country" / "County" definitions.... Slainge Bob
  18. Hi Alboy, If you've run the date based PQs once, then your offline database will be populated ..... all you need to do is run a weekly PQ for "Placed in the last month" . The only weakness is that this wont show archived caches ...... (This is was a bit messy anyway..) you could always pick them up by rerunning the 17/19/20 date based PQs every 5 or 6 months..... ? edited to change "last week" to "last month"....just in case of delays getting cache published.
  19. Hi HollyBankHunters This may be a million milles off the mark, but I've had the exact symptoms after loading andn upgrade, the problem was that the license info was deleted...... try re-entering your license info on the "help dropdown menu" good luck FFB
  20. Accommodation booked... looks goods, though a wee bit worried about how the wee dugs will cope with the February Lunga heatwave......
  21. You dont happen to use FTF.exe by any chance? Slainge Bob
