  1. Cheers Eckington, good stuff. Shame it took nine months, the above post and you contacting them/him/her in order to get this changed.
  2. I have to complain about this cache- Brunel's View, Bristol, UK. The cache was planted in April 2002, and is a multi-cache. In order to get to the cache you need to go to a map displayed in a forest and use the artist's name to find the co-ords for the final cache. In March 2003 or so the National Trust removed the sign with the artist's name and replaced it with another- minus the artists name. This was remarked on by Eerieglow on the 15th March, and by many cachers since. - but NO update on the cache page! 200m away there is a National Trust hut, where the same map remains, with the artists name. This was remarked on by another cacher and this is now used for the decryption of the final clue- but cachers have to read the log. - NO updates or changes. I tried to find the cache in September 2003 and remarked in my log that the cache page should be updated, making the above points. - NO updates. I also received an e-mail from Mark (sorry, forgot your log-in) who sent me a map of the Brunel's View cache area marking the cache location, having noticed I had trouble finding it as per my logs. He had also sent a mail to the owner of Brunel's View and made similar points, but had received no reply. Finally, on October 12, the Dunton Bassett Hounds posted and encrypted the location of the final cache. While this will aid people who have tried to find this cache in the past, it really defeats the purpose of the multi-cache. So, bad maintainance has lead to this situation. I really think that the owners of this cache should be contacted by geocaching.com and made aware of the situation, as I feel that some users are not pulling their weight. - This came to me as I received an e-mail from Alan2. I tried to visit his Ward's Island Cache in New York, but one of the bridges used to access the cache is closed, a footbridge from 103rd Street in Harlem. I mentioned this in a "couldn't find" note, and the page was updated within a few hours and Alan had sent me a mail saying that he changed the page and hoped I could visit again. Now that's excellent, isn't it?
  3. How about- "Do knot look low" I spent an hour looking for this micro cache in Central Park... looking in tree knot's. Turns out the cache was under a stone, and the "knot" a mis-spelling. GRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
  4. I, with my better half in tow tried to find the Brunel's View cache in Bristol, UK. I walked to the National Trust (Forest Ranger's) hut and found the third clue there. The cache appeared to be 1/4 mile away, and so we walked all the way to the bottom of a Gorge. The cache then appeared to be uphill, and we could not see a way up. (turns out that the co-ordinates listed on the cache page were wrong!) It started to rain again, and I opened my bag and put in the cache page I printed out. Somewhere along the way I dropped my wallet- or it fell out of my pocket. We walked back up to where the car was parked and decided to head for home, as the weather was getting worse. Halfway there I noticed that I could not find my wallet. My girlfriend suggested I had left it at her house, so we checked there. No luck. So we drove back to the woods and walked all the way back down the track, and could not find the wallet. I began getting mad, and then resigned myself (after a few strong and rather loud swearwords) that I had indeed lost my wallet. I took out my mobile phone to call my bank, in order to cancel my cards... and the phone rang! It was Mastercard, calling to say that my wallet had been found and they had a number for me to call. I called the number they gave me and it was the National Trust office- the Forest Rangers hut! The guys there had called the only number in the wallet- Mastercard's. I went there to collect it, and a person had handed it in and had not left their name or number- so I couldn't give them a reward :-( . The wallet contained my bankcards, Credit Cards, £120 and 100 euro, all still there. My faith in humanity was restored. Unfortunatly, I still didn't find the cache.
  5. I've been in touch with Chrisobyrne and we're currently discussing re-planting the oldest cache in Europe!
  6. Again, you're all wrong ;-) The oldest cache on the two islands- and this one is one of the first in the world, is the "Geocache" near Bray, Dublin, Ireland. It has been archived since July, but you can view the listing here: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=67
  7. I bought my basic Garmin Gecko from globalpositioningsystem.com for 150 pounds. In Ireland it tends to sell for around 250-400 euro (400 euro =240 pounds!). Imagine my surprise when I walked into a store in New York yesterday and saw one on sale for 130 dollars... According to xe.com thats 75 pounds!!! Wow.
  8. I see bruceS at 3403, cccooperagency at 3867... Mindboggling.
  9. Stats for The Hornet show 584 finds...that's from geocacheuk.com
  10. I'm in New York at the mo on holiday- I'm just wondering who the busiest geocacher in the world (and also in the UK) is. When I view cache pages on the net I see people with over 2000 finds- and when I check their stats they WILL have 1950 or so physical ones and a couple of virtuals. Any ideas... I'll post another log when I find more...
  11. Funny, that... *ahem* since the first post of Dan Wilson mentioned "England", I think you are all wrong. You've read the third post by Daisy and Me which refers to Britain and the six Counties. Since geocaching is a geographical pursuit I would suggest sticking to geographical boundaries, not political ones. There are currently around 160 geocaches on the of Ireland, so there's plenty of room for all...
  12. A bottle of Vodka... 8 Tins of Rocket Fuel... how did you get home...?
  13. I'm an Irish geocacher and I'm currently on holidays in NY. If you can get the bug to, say, a cache in Central Park I'll take him home... You've got till Saturday afternoon! Any questions drop me a line- klaus23
  14. I might have made a mistake- I saw it done in the geocacheuk forums and I suppose assumed that it could be done here. Sorry. Have to agree with Woodsmoke, I can't see the harm in it.
  15. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=94140 A new cache I planted last week in Galway, Ireland. I would suggest doing this cache would give you a good laugh. Can't reveal anymore...
  16. Hey guys, I put a new cache in Portishead, near Bristol, last week. http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?ID=93380 Anyone want to be the first?
  17. We've tried! And more than once. They say there isn't enough interest. Possibly right- there are around 80 caches in Ireland which is strange given the remote and beautiful countryside, and the amount of foreign visitors here. Either way, we're off to do it ourselves. Feel free to come along: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/geocaching_ireland/
  18. Dear Geocacher, My name is Klaus Gottsche (klaus23) and together with my friend Craig Harrison (craigsbar) we have set up a Geocaching e-group for Ireland. We are both living and working in Galway. I realise this forum is for the UK but given the proximity of the two countries and the travel between the two I am hoping some of you may be interested. In addition, Mr. Harrison is a proud Englishman. We wish to promote geocaching within Ireland and hope that this step is a move towards perhaps a dedicated .ie website, geocaching get-togethers and more. Should you not wish to take part, please ignore this post. If you have further questions, please respond to the post or contact me through my profile and I will get back to you as soon as possible. And if you are interested in joining the group, take a trip to the link below. As you will be able to see the group is moderated and will be initially open to all interested. Hopefully the group will develop into an interesting resource both for geocachers resident in Ireland and for geocachers who are visiting here. Yours in hunting small Tupperware boxes, Klaus and Craig http://groups.yahoo.com/group/geocaching_ireland/
