  1. I would like to see a pic of the 205w showing tracks. I look forward to your review.
  2. GO$Rs I went out and picked up one of these OR's today and I was wondering if you were able to find a Satellite page on the OR like on the CO? I did find out how to get the GPS accuracy but no way to see what satellites the gps is using? And for every one that might be interested, this is the hardest GPS device to see out in the day light. Almost unusable. Very dissapointing Edit: Another problem i have noticed so far with the OR is the Battery Meter is way off with Nimh rechargeables. It is saying that fresh charged Nimh batteries are almost dead after about 10 minutes. Only one bar left but the unit keeps going for hours. Here we go again all kinds of problems right out of the box like the CO. I wounder if Garmin even test the units out in the field before they start selling them. I bet that the OR is going to be just like the CO and start running beta firmware too. For me the only thing i like about the OR over the CO is the way you have all the letters on the screen to enter text instead of having to scroll to the next letter like on the CO.
  3. FYI for everyone in CALI Most of the REI stores received the Oregon 400t today. I am on my way right now to go pick one up.
  4. g-o-casher thank you for testing these units and providing feedback on them. When you get a chance can you do a side by side pic of the CO and the OR out side under direct sun light with the backlight all the way up an all the way down Thanks again for your honest and unbiased testing for these units.
  5. I have a brand new Garmin Colorado 400T for sale. $450 + shipping I accept papal and usps money orders. I have perfect feed back on ebay. My user name on ebay is dustin4x4toy EDIT: I am also including Garmin Topo 2008 DVD for Map source
  6. Same thing happens to mine Looks like we will always be bata testers for Garmin When will we see a firmware update that is not bata I really wish i did not update now. now i will have to wait another 3 months for garmin to release the next "bata" update to fix this new problem is there any way to go back to 2.51 ? it worked ok. at least my unit would not crash.
  7. I have had this happen to me too. I am running the current beta software 2.51 The only way i was able to get things working again was with a master reset. Good thing is it only happened the one time.
  8. I am wondering the same thing anyone know what this AutoPilot Mode is?? I turned it on but i can't tell what it is doing if anything.

  13. Just fyi The 300 has more usable memory than the 400t. Only a hand full of the 400t had more memory. All the new 400t's only have 148mb of usable internal memory. The 300 has 389mb of usable memory. And the 300 has a better world base map too. You can buy the 300 and topo for less than the 400t and have more memory and use the dvd on your computer too. If you load the entire topo on the 300 how much memory do you have left? You load the topo to a sd card, not to the units internal memory. So if you load topo to the sd card you will still have all of the 300's internal memory for cache's, tracks and waypoints.

You do raise a good point about usable internal memory, especially now that a single cache waypoint will require more memory for "paperless" data. I suspect a memory card will "fix" that. Out of curiousity... How is the world base map better on the 300 compared to the 400t? What exactly is the difference? You can not load cashe waypoints to sd card. All that info is stored on the units internal memory. The world base map one the 300 has more detail, shows major cities and boarders were the 400t does not have this info on there world base map.

  16. If that's case regarding the memory reduction why not purchase the Colorado 300 + Topo 2008 Maps? At least that way you can have them load on your computer as well... I think Garmin drop the ball with the 400t and this reduction in internal memory. I totally agree. This is a bunch of B.S. on Garmins part. There really is no reason to buy the 400t any more. You can buy the 300 and topo for less then the 400t and have almost 400mb of free memory and use topo on your computer too.
  17. That does give you the "user visible" internal memory which is about all we have to compare. One would assume that the actual internal memory of the CO is larger and Garmin shaves off a piece for their code image, data space, low level loaders, etc. My guess is that the the newer units have 3GB and the older units had 4GB. rwsmith123 informed me that some of the Nuvis actually have two flash memory devices. I was surprised by this but if the CO uses a similar design it would seem maybe they've gone from 2x2GB flash devices in the first devices to a 2GB + 1GB device configuration in the newer units. Probably takes $5 off the cost of the unit. How's that for WA speculation!? GO$Rs Yea well one thing you don't need to speculate it the available memory on the new 400t is only 148mb not 1.08gb like the first run of 400t's.
  18. How does one check the amount of internal memory in the 400t? Rider I am running windows xp and check my 400t memory like this. First i conect the 400t with the usb cable to my computer, then i click on the start menu, then click on my computer. Then you should then see your 400t under devices with removable stoage. right click on garmin colorado (E:) then click on properties. You should now see the used space, free space, and capacity of your 400t. Hope this helps.
  19. I just went to the rei store. There was a guy there that was aware or the new colorado 400t only having a total of 2.78gb. We went threw a bunch of there 400t's that they had in stock, all of them had only 2.78gb of total memory. We then checked the one they had on display. And it had 3.72gb of total memory. They let me buy that one so now i have more internal memory again. If you have the 400t with 3.72gb internal memory you better hold on to it. All in all i think this is a bunch of B.S. on Garmins part.
  20. Just got off the phone with Garmin. They said that there was a hardware change on the 400t and they now have less total internal memory. They said that there are some out there that might still have the larger memory but the new ones are only going to have 2.78gb total. Normally memory sizes are in powers of 2 (1GB, 2GB, 4GB). I would be really surprised to find out this was a 3GB device (with some overhead removed for other stuff Garmin doesn't make visible through the flash file system). I guess anything is possible but it just smells fishy to me. GO$Rs All i know is what they told me. But every time i call Garmin about something i get a different answer.
