  1. On January 11, 2010 I had 1882 caches. On January 16, 2010 I found 19 caches and 1 benchmark. Now I show 1902 caches. The site has incorrectly added my benchmark find to my total cache find. I should only have 1901 cache finds.

My son's file is also now not correct. He had 1185 find on 1/11/2010. On 1/16 he found 19 caches and 1 benchmark. Now the web page shows he with 1185 cache finds. It has coundted the benchmark as a cache find. He should only have 1184 cache finds.

    Howdy Neighbor.

It looks like the site's count is correct. I only looked at your profile and see that you logged 20 caches on the 16th instead of 19. Also, when I look at your geocaches found and add the numbers (excluding benchmarks) I get 1902.

That stinking arithmetic always gets me too.

  2. Well - I am in WV and I don't believe there is one in the area that is familiar with it -so would love to be one (if the powers that be are reading).

I think Dot Plotter and Keystone, when DP lets him, do a fabulous job publishing caches in WV.

A reviewer being familiar with an area isn’t a necessity. However, cachers being familiar with the cache placement guidelines is. You might think “I don't believe there any reviewers of new caches in my immediate vacinity (sic).” because of placement problems more so than the lack of a local reviewer. (Just an observation of mine from info garnered over the past couple of months.)

Being a fellow West Virginian I appreciate your interest and offer of assistance but I believe we’re covered pretty well.

One word of advice though. If the Frog does come banging on your door, RUN.

  3. Does anybody have a direct link to "Create Pocket Query"?

    Might try geocaching dot com/pocket/

Takes me there but didn't test it. Already had my PQ for today but then the cheapjeep decided it didn't want me to go caching

  4. Clif bars are may favorites.

I'm curious SWV, what are your favorites the other 11 months? :)

I normally go the roni-roll trailmix route too. Haven't found an energy bar I really like but this thread has at least given me some choices to try.

  5. Hello everyone, I've decided to waste your time by making you read this utterly insignificant forum thread

Two cachers found one of my TBs today. One person retrieved it from a cache, while the other person grabbed it. I got both email notifications, but I looked at the TBs profile and couldn't find the log for the person who took it from the cache. I viewed the "retrieved" log entry through the email notice, and it said "archived" in the corner. Huh? I'm probably overanalyzing this thing six ways from Sunday, but I'm wondering why this happened. Has anyone heard of this before?

The retrieved log was deleted for some reason.

  6. Yeah, that happens from time to time.

Send a note to the current holder and ask them to do the Retrieve again. If you don't get a response go ahead and mark it as missing. The current holder can always grab it away when they are ready to drop it. It's better not to have people think there is a bug in your cache and end up making an unnecessary trip.

Thanks for the input. After thinking about this I suppose they'll have to retrieve it again anyway. If it's showing as being in the cache they can't drop it because it's probably not in their inventory. Being their first, and so far only TB, they might be a tad confused. I'll fire off a note.

Thanks again, this was a new one for me.

  7. I have a little different twist to this problem on one of my caches.

TBJX8F is listed as being in my cache GCZ5RP. I went to *mark item missing* and saw that there was a *retrieved* log posted in February.

My question is how can I get it off the cache page. I don't think marking it as missing is a good choice since it was retrieved and should be shown in the hands of the retriever.

  8. Just stumbled across this one. Man O'Day I'd be a little ticked if I decrypted this in search of aid. :D

Visited the cache yesterday to add a few more items and discovered the pens don't write very well; but I forgot to take any with me. So if you go for this one; please take an extra pencil to leave in it. I will try to add one soon anyway. Also please note don't try to cross the high banked creek except by the trail or you might be injured. You'll note a couple of people found this out the hard way.
  9. Thanks for stating that so succinctly, Ambrosia, and by reference to the listing guidelines.

A container holds or encloses -- it *contains* -- a log. The log is a separate thing that you sign, from a scroll to a notebook. Both items are required.

Is that new with the latest guideline upgrade?

The only reason that I ask is that we all have found a 'magnetic sheet' cache and I was wondering where in the history of geocaching that those fit in.

I always thought the magentic sheet caches fell under this from the GC/faq

"A cache can come in many forms but the first item should always be the logbook. In its simplest form a cache can be just a logbook and nothing else. The logbook contains information from the founder of the cache and notes from the cache's visitors. The logbook can contain much valuable, rewarding, and entertaining information. A logbook might contain information about nearby attractions, coordinates to other unpublished caches, and even jokes written by visitors. If you get some information from a logbook you should give some back. At the very least you can leave the date and time you visited the cache. "

Emphasis mine and if I'm wrong it won't be the first time.

Edited to add that this wouldn't be considered a traditional cache though.

  10. No, the issue behind this entire episode is why, since apparently this road is declared a highway, is it applicable for this cache, yet the one published last summer, under the same "highway bridge" guideline which was in effect at the time as well as now, was allowed?

Regardless, it seems this part of a previous post is still being ignored by the OP

First and foremost please be advised there is no precedent for placing caches. This means that the past listing of a similar cache in and of itself is not a valid justification for the listing of a new cache.
  11. First, let me say he did not undo his maintenance. <snip>

Maybe so, but that's not what his log says.

Since maintenance cannot be preform and then adopted out. I put the broken Tupperware dish back now if I really want this cache all I have to do is wait 30 days. That is the most ridiculous thing that I have ever heard.

Please read my post carefully. I explained why he posted the "needs maintenance" log, based on the response he received from the reviewer.

So the log I quoted is an untruth? The ammo can is actually in place?
