  1. TIGER doesn't have Township, section, and range information. Some states have developed these layers and post them on their state GIS clearinghouses. If you want something for a specific state, check the state websites. You can start your search from here. http://libraries.mit.edu/gis/data/statecenter.html
  2. That's why there are virtual caches......
  3. I was looking at information on a GPS unit and it talked like they used a separate GPS unit for European market. Since the sats we use in the US circle the globe, what is the difference in the European GPS or market?
  4. I can tell you for certain that you can use a GPS on Southwest Airlines. They go as far as to list GPS as an acceptable electronic device. It's in the same category as computers.......must be turned off when the plane is below 10k feet.
  5. This is from GARMIN: 100 meters: Accuracy of the original GPS system, which was subject to accuracy degradation under the government-imposed Selective Availability (SA) program. 15 meters: Typical GPS position accuracy without SA. 3-5 meters: Typical differential GPS (DGPS) position accuracy. < 3 meters: Typical WAAS position accuracy. You can't get millimeter accuracy without DGPS
  6. I enter lat/lon personally. The eTrex Venture is WAAS enabled so you could expect 3m accuracy. Changing to a different coordinate system like UTM isn't going to make the GPS more accurate. In a way, it doesn't really matter. If the person placing the cache used a non-WAAS GPS with 15m accuracy, you're not going to get within 1m of the cache.
  7. quote:Originally posted by Paul Ag: quote:Census 2000 US Mean Center of Population Ceremony in April 2001. . What is that craziest about? Our tax dollars are being used to mark the center spot of the population. Is that right? What a waste of money! I need to write my congressman. Or is this a ploy to get people to Misery, I mean Missouri? Good Luck Cache Baggers - Paul Ag Clearly you don't know nor do you care about the facts. The Census Bureau is by law (Title 13, United States Code) responsible for taking the Census and evaluating the results. The US Constitution requires a Census by the way. Historically the Center of Population has followed a trail that reflects immigration and migration. Since 1790, the location has moved westerly, then a more southerly pattern. The new Center of Population is more than 1,000 miles from the first Center in 1790, which was located near Chestertown, Md; east of Baltimore. A company called Bernsten provided the custom made plaque at no charge. The county highway department dug the hole and made and poured the concrete. The good folks of Edgar Springs provided the snacks. Unless your a resident of Phelps County, MO, you're tax dollars were not used to mark the center of population. Just the facts...........
  8. Oh my god, a GeoTerrorist! or The best argument for reinstating SA!
  9. bartacus gets my honorable mention. As for Acceptable Risk, you scare me dude! That's a work of art! You won this round! You used Photoshop? I'll have to check that out!
  10. wannafly, Thanks! It worked at first when I posted it but it looks like geocities gets hip to that type of access and shuts it down.
  11. I think that's what you would want to do. Have the reporter find your cache. That way, you're sure you'll find it and you know what's in it.
  12. Here's mine. Pretty basic card.
  13. Sept1c, I think your saving the file with at a specified resolution rather than the actual size of the image
  14. George, Find a good doctor and they can surgically remove the GPS from your ear!
  15. I see many references to the different grades of GPS such as recreational, map grade, and survey grade. Logically, the recreational grade is less accurate and less expensive than the map grade or survey grade. Does anybody know of a site that provides actual definitions of these grades?
  16. GeckoGeek, When I modified the image with some image software such as Lview, it blew away the data. I have the Kodak DC290 and the Garmim III+ purchased from Kodak as a package. I attended the Census 2000 US Mean Center of Population Ceremony in April 2001. You can check out a website of photos at www.geocities.com/EdgarSprings/ and see the first photos I took with the combination.
  17. FYI, Geocaching.com gurus, I know from time to time, you update your zipcode files. If you're in need of new zipcode data, it is available free of charge from http://www.census.gov/tiger/tms/gazetteer/zcta5.txt
  18. I would agree that the seller is probably on vacation. However, with all due respect, I think your prematurely worried. You sent your payment on 6/25 so it was likely received by Thursday 6/27. Some sellers only ship once or twice a week. If the item was sent UPS ground, it could take a week to get there. They may have shipped the item but are bad about responding to email. I once read an article that said you should post positive feedback on eBay if you get the item you purchased and it is as described in the auction. Good luck.
