  1. In regards to Geocaching and Flashmobbing, is there only one day each year where a Flashmob Cache can be held, or can someone hold one of these caches at any time?

You can hold them anytime. I held one on Oct 21.

Attendees were required to pose in a statue garden displaying some sort of anquish

having to do with geocaching (ie DNFing). We even had a few geocachers to play the part

of a Royal Court to preside over the festivities.

You can see a video of it

    :

The cache page for it is here.

  2.

Anyway, before I go down and ask out local Museum curator about this idea, maybe some of you can tell me if this has been tried before.

I just got my cache approved last month and it is part of an exhibit in plain view.

No fee is required to access it and the staff does not have be bothered in order for a cacher to access it.

I did meet with the Director of the museum to get them to display it. They loved the idea.

The cachers also like it of course because now there is a spot to safely leave travel bugs

without fear of theft in downtown San Francisco. It's a win-win situation as fas I can see without

    breaking the guidelines.

  3. What's the most visually aesthetic cache page? Nice photos, background, colors etc...

I think images can add excitement to a hunt.

I like this one just because I added my own watercolor to it.

And this one because it includes a photo strip of characters that people know in my area

Mostly, I tend to use plain or textured backgrounds and one image.

  4. Hello Cachers,

My travel bug called "Whip It" is in a heated race to England and somehow got stranded

on a mountain in Chattahoochee Forest

She is still in the lead with three other TBs but if she isn't moved soon all is lost.

Would there be any intrepid cachers out there willing to resuce her? You don't have to get her to England but if she was left on the flat lands closer to people she would have a much better chance. I will sing your praises if you can help! :-)

The link to my travel bug is:

Her official travel bug name is:

GBA to UK Racer: Whip It

And she is in this cache:

  6. Hi Everyone,

Had anyone actually used a GPSMap60CS in Europe and used the Metro Guide Europe V8 software?

I actually called Garmin and they told me I could use Metro Guide Europe V8 ($160) or City Navigator Europe ($349). However, when I look at their compatibility chart I do not see the Metro Guide listed as compatible.

So now, I am looking for a real person who has actually used the Metro Guide version to verify I should buy this one.

(I know that City Navigator Europe provides auto routing but the price is too high for a 3 week trip)

I am going to Paris for three weeks and it sure would be nice to bring along my GPS.

    THANKS!!

  7. I just LOVE interactive art caches and I have had some success in creating a cache like this.

If you visit my Whimsical Wonders cache you can also see people's artworks in the gallery.

Since I wanted everyone (especially the non-artists) to draw something I included templates of animals that I got from a craft shop (Michaels). B)

  8. If I really, really enjoy the cache I will also paint a watercolor sketch of it and add it to the log.

    Whoa! Ver-y nice.

What sort of gear do you carry with you?

Most of the time I take a snap shot and use my watercolors at home.

On days I do have time to paint in the field though I take brushes, a container of water, paper towels, masking tape, a pencil, and portable watercolors (the pan kind:Yarka brand. These watercolors are more vibrant than the usual. I got them online at Dickblicks art supplies. I also use 140 lb weight watercolor paper.

  9. I will do my best to write an entertaining log if I think the cache warrents it. Even if it doesn't I will write about the experience I had there with my buddies so they can enjoy my write ups. It's my way of saying "I had fun caching with you." I also take time with my logs as a thank you to the person who took the time to place it. If I really, really enjoy the cache I will also paint a watercolor sketch of it and add it to the log. I am a firm believer in "value added caching." ;) No alphabet logs for me!

  10. What is the best place to buy an ammo box in the Los Altos/Palo Alto/Mountain View area?  That army surplus place on El Camino?  Hubby wants to pick one up for random storage purposes but doesn't know the cheapest place to find 'em.  Thanks!

Mt View Surplus on El Camino is a good source.

    1299 El Camino

    MT View 94040

  11. If you access the "View" pull-down menu you can choose either "hide/show GPS map detail" or "switch to product" if you are in a "no map" screen.

    Luck, Olar

Ah-HAH!! That worked for me. Thank you so much and everyone who wanted to help me. I am back in business!!

(I would never have guessed they would have hid it under "switch to product." Now I am off to add the free upgrade.

  12. Hello Everyone,

This morning I used some key combination (I don’t remember what) on my PC to hide my maps from view, and now I can’t get them back. Does anyone know of short cut key or procedure that

toggles the map back on? All I see is the grid.

PS: I have consulted the Help menu but I can not find the answer.

    Thanks!!

    Don't reset your unit yet.

During my first software update I didn't wait long enough for files to be uninstalled/ installed  and I got the "software missing" message. Plug your 60cs into the computer, turn it on and look for the file Updater.exe in the Garmin folder. Open Updater.exe and in the dialog box set your connection option. Now the hard part is to wait for two or three minutes until files are uninstalled and new files installed.

    Hope this helps!

    Success!!

It turns out I did not wait long enough as jeepntj stated.

I re-ran the updater exe file, and this time I waited patiently.

I am very happy to say I now have a fully functioning GPS!!

Thank you everyone for your contributions to my problem.

Not only did you save me money in returning this unit back to Garmin

    I can now continue caching!

You are truly a dream team :wacko::lol:
