  1. A belated thanks Miragee. I did a search for this, but couldn't find it.
  2. I've been out of the geocaching scene for a while and now. A couple of months ago I lost my pc due to lightning. I'm trying to load all my old software onto the new pc, but can't for the life of me remember how to do a full install of the MetroGuide software. I have both the MetroGuide USA and TOPO. Can anyone help me get all the maps installed on the HD so that I don't have to pull them from the CD-ROM everytime I want to use them?
  3. Cool. Now to find something neat to turn into a bug.
  4. Well, I emailed them through the Thales website to see if I could get an ETA on when the site would be back up. I'll post here when/if I get a reply.
  5. I hope they get this fixed. This was actually a pretty fun contest they have going.
  6. I've been able to get into the contest website without problems every day since day one, but today, I can't get in due to "HTTP 500 - Internal server error". Is anyone else having this problem today?
  7. I've created some larger hanging caches using 1/2 gallon rubbermaid containers (the clear kind that normally are used in the kitchen instead of the woods). I bought eye-bolts and rubber washers at Home Depot, drilled a pilot hole in the bottom of the container, place a nut and washer on the eye-bolt, run the eye-bolt through the pilot hole, then, on the inside of the container, put another rubber washer and tighten down hard with a final nut. Works great!
  8. "I continued up the old waterway" Probably meaning going up from the lake toward the city. "I’m sure the information is somewhere toward the South" The south end of the New Basin Canal ended near the present site of the U.S. Post Office on Loyola Avenue, right next to New Orleans Union Passenger Terminal. This area is between the French Quarter and the Uptown area where the air would likely be "filled with vapor and jazz." OK, what do you think?
  9. Any of you LA cachers think the reference to "the old waterway" is an allusion to Interstate 10? I believe the New Basin Canal, or the old waterway, was a connector from Lake Pontchartrain to New Orleans that was used for most of the waterborne commerce entering New Orleans from the lake back in the mid 1800's. The New Basin Canal was later filled in and most of its route is now either a park or is occupied by Interstate Highway 10.
  10. If I'm interpreting the post right, it seems that Rooty may be headed to New York soon!
  11. Almost four months have gone by and nobody has gone to get that FREE GPS? Oh, wait... I just read the log again. Its a Magellan. Now I understand!
  12. Thanks for the help Geospotter!
  13. I posted this in the "Geocaching in Education" forum, but there's really not much activity there. So I'm posting it here now, as I am kinda pushed for time. I am to do a presentation to my son's class this coming Thursday. I will be doing a PowerPoint presentation and then a little geocaching activity on the school grounds. I've already started working on the PPT and have already set up the layout of the cache course. If any of you already have PPTs put together that you could send to me, I'd really appreciate it. It would sure cut down on the time it takes for the creative process if I could just copy some ideas/slides. If you'd like to help, you can email your PPT to me at btNOSPAMouch@yahoo.com. (Just remove the NOSPAM from the email address) Thanks in advance, Billy
  14. My furthest official FTF is Did George Sleep Here? It is 35.7 miles from my home. But I did find another that was 106 miles from home while I was searching for Top of the Wolfden. Here's an excerpt from my log of the Wolfden cache. I never got to log that FTF cache we stumbled across because the hider never did list it.
  15. Sorry, I don't have any software to crop with... Apparently I own 6 of the 10 nearest caches... which means I own 6 of the 10 within 30 miles of my home! Low cache density Oh, to save anyone the trouble who is interested, I'm easy to find if you just Google me, Billy Touchberry. There aren't that many of us around. And, no, I don't mind if you want to drop by for a visit... my house is visible from the road, there are no gates or guards, my phone number is listed along with my address in the phone book... so I guess anybody could stop by if they want to. Just don't drop by naked!
  16. My zip is 31021... I have a total of 35 caches within a fifty mile radius. Six are mine. Eight are virtuals (sorry, I'm not crazy about virtuals ) Leaving me with 21
  17. Don't forget that you also gave us Triumph! Maybe I'm the only one that remembers, though. Never Surrender
  18. I hadn't seen this here before. I thought it was funny enough to share...
  19. I'm lucky. The local surplus store has 30MM for $2 and 50MM for $4. I bought over $100 worth a while back for one of our GGA meetings and sold all of them at cost.
  20. OK, just about ready to drop Rooty in the mail. I just have to print out an infor sheet for him and have it laminated and attach it to him.
  21. Is it OK to drop him in my local cache before mailing him to you, so that he can reflect true mileage for me?
