  1. Could someone from Groundspeak offer a quick explanation on why we had to wait until midnight PST, whether this will be overcome in V2? Personally, I waited until that evening to log my finds for New Year's Day, but I agree it is a bit quirky that we have to constantly log into the future.
  2. Kewfriend Best posting this in the Geocaching Australia forums. For Perth, I suggest posting it in the Western Australia section: http://forum.geocaching.com.au/viewforum.p...6cbe088345ccb13
  3. Thank you to all the geocachers in the Taipei region for the caches and to Haima for showing me around. I had a great time visiting Taiwan and look forward to visiting again in the future.
  4. If you're asking about mapping...the World Map that comes with the US version of garmin units is not great. You're better off adding the Tracks4Australia maps, which are free.
  5. Looking forward to meeting you.
  6. If there are any geocachers in Taipei wishing to meet up and maybe swap travel bugs, I'll be visiting 14-17 October, from Australia. Darren
  7. If you'd like to 'hear' about caching Down Under, visit http://www.geotalkpodcast.com/ and http://www.youtube.com/geotalk/ Drop me a line if you're visiting Sydney.
  8. Thank you for the message and to the replies through a cache note. I have someone lined up.
  9. If anyone is able to get to the Conaught Hotel in Bournemouth (almost N 50° 42.921 W 001° 52.869) next week (25-28 June), my girlfriend will have some travel bugs from Australia. One needs to get Belgium, so this will take it 95% of the way there. Please email me at geotalk@mac.com and I pass on her details (mobile phone number) for you to meet with her. Darren (aka Spindoc Bob)
  10. Does anyone know the geocacher uncleroy? They appeared 12 months agi and found a few caches in Virginia, then visited Australia and collected three travel bugs. Unfortunately they haven't logged on since January. If you know them could you please give a nudge. Their profile is here http://www.geocaching.com/profile/Default....23-42db12d3b5bd
  11. Best to keep it visible then!
  12. I'm also looking for someone in Japan for the Sisters locationless cache. I'm in Canberra, Australia, looking for someone in (or near) Nara, Japan.
  13. If you read Lonely Planet for Australia than you'd probably stay away. Snakes are no more of a threat than crossing the road (remeber to look the OTHER way). There are plenty of suburban caches in each of the capital cities. Having said that, February and March are the warmer months of the year and snakes will be more active than in the winter (July). I've only seen about a dozen in my live time, and most were in the bush (atcually I think I saw more in southern Mexico in four weeks!). Just that note of where you walk when in long grass and you'll be OK. Which cities are you visiting in Australia?
  14. What a great site. I wish we had as beautiful (or eye pleasing) map as this on our Australian Geocaching website. Thank you for the tip. It will help me narrow my targets easily.
  15. I am travelling around NZ for two weeks in January 2004. My wife is slightly tolerant of Geocaching, so I wondered if there are any 'simple/drive in' caches around Picton, Chirstchurch, Wellington, Napier, Rotarua and Auckland worth checking out?
  16. I ended up buying a GPS from the USA. First attempt on eBay was a fizzer. Instead of getting a GPS I got a can of peas. Unlikely to my money back. There's a lesson for everyone buying through online auctions. Check, check and triple check the seller (I only double checked). My second attempt throughout Offroute.com was succesful, however I was hit with a $100 customs fee! In the end the choice is order from within Australia, or buy it overseas and bring it home or have someone bring it across for you. Another lesson in life.
  17. Does anyone have experience in ordering a GPS unit from the USA. I'm considering an eTrex Legend from offroute.com; one to support geocaching.com, and two the exchange rate at the moment makes it very competitive. If you have oredred, what should I watch for? Are maps a problem - both purchase and upload?
