  1. I think there will be 68 people attending.

    Facts:

New Jersey has more Cubans in Union City (1 sq. mi.) than Havana, Cuba.

North Jersey is the car theft capital of the world, with more cars stolen in Newark then any other city, even the 2 largest cities, NYC and LA, put together.

In New Jersey, cabbage can't be sold on Sunday.

David Copperfield is from New Jersey.

And, some things you probably know, but are funny anyway - You know you're from Jersey if:

-You know what a "jug handle" is.

-You know that Wawa is a convenience store.

-You know that there are no "beaches" in New Jersey--there's the shore--and you don't go "to the shore," you go "down the shore." And when you are there, you're not "at the shore"; you are "down the shore."

-You know how to properly negotiate a circle.

-You knew that the last sentence had to do with driving.

-You know that this is the only "New" state that doesn't require "New" to identify it (try . . . Mexico . . .York ... Hampshire-- doesn't work, does it?).

-You know that a "White Castle" is the name of BOTH a fast food chain AND a fast food sandwich.

  2. So have you made it back to the cache location and try it again. Did you find it?

I emailed the cache owner. He is no longer in the area, and his cache carer is out of town, so he asked to me to check and make sure the cache is still there and not muggled, although we both feel it may have been. He sent me some pics of where exactly it is, so I'm going to go out, check the coordinates and make sure it is still there sometime this week. I'll let you guys know what I find. And thanks for all the great advice so far! :)

(and I was going for the FTF, I'm competitive that way  )

  3. Use common sense when looking (or grabbing) inside stuff. In Wisconsin, the wildest thing I have come across in a hide was an opossum taking a snooze, but understand that there are snakes and spiders and stuff in Australia that will ruin your whole day. I would recommend seeing if there is a local group that you can tag along with.

Yeah, I'm pretty familiar with what to look out for - redbacks, death adders, brown snakes, and scorpions to name a few - I walk carefully and don't stick my hand anywhere it doesn't belong. :)

  4. Can you tell us what cache you were looking for? Maybe then we could better help you. In the mean time here are some tips.

    1. Look for something that dosen't seem to belong, or isn't quite what it may appear to be.

    2. Read all the previous find logs. They can be a wealth of information.

    3. Most importantly...remember that the coordinates the hider used could differ as much as 60 feet from yours.

    El Diablo

Wow, 60 feet? How are you people finding these nano and "under rock" ones then??

It hadn't been found yet - maybe I'm not the only one who can't find it.

I'm searching in Australia - this was the cache I tried: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...20-e9bbe1fc304e. I'm fairly familiar with that landmark, and know I was in the right area, just couldn't find anything. I think part of the trouble is this site is in MAJOR need of CITO efforts. So much trash I can't tell what's what =P

  5. So, after browsing here for a few weeks, I finally decided to go out and look for my fist cache. I picked one that was described as relatively easy, and thought I should be good to go.

I looked for 45 mintes in what I'm sure was at least close, but couldn't find anything. Is there some technique I need to use to get right there?

  6.

I had a Garmin GPSMAP 60CSX but lent it to a friend (in Sydney) last year and haven't got it back yet  . I found the 60CSX to be a great unit for what I used it for (primarly in the bush in remote areas).

I'm just waiting on Garmin's new range to become available - the "Colorado". I'm going to get a "300" model direct from one of the USA suppliers (once I have saved up the dollars needed). With the way our dollar is at the moment (exchange rate) it is much cheaper to buy direct from O/S rather than from one of our local retailers (however if you do have a problem with an imported unit - if it is under warranty - you have to return it to the point of purchase - ie. back O/S. That could get a bit expensive with International Courier costs if you have a problem).

When you used it out bush, were you using that oztopo map? Or just what it came with?

  7. Not to be rude but have you even bothered to look at the product you wanted to buy? to see what is included? or what additional maps are available?

    https://buy.garmin.com/shop/shop.do?cID=145&pID=310

Yes, I did quite a lot of research actually - maybe that's what has me confused.

I did see that it listed maps, but then I wasn't sure if that's what it came with or was compatible with - I'm new to this after all. Not sure how your attitude is helpful, you could just as easily have answered the question nicely or stayed out of the post.

Anyway, just wondered if there was something else I need to research and price out in addition to the unit itself.

If you get a garmin you'll want City Navigator Australia

And say what unit are you looking at getting?

Thanks, Quigley, I'll check that out. I am looking at the Garmin 60CsX.

  8. I'm looking at buying this GPS in about a month - gotta save up! :)

Anyway, I'm in Australia and my usage would probably be Geocaching 80%, driving 20%.

Do any maps come with it, and if not, what is good to get? I'd like to be able to use it on upcoming trips to the US and UK as well.

    I looked at this: http://www.amazon.com/review/product/B0000...howViewpoints=1

but it gets very mixed reviews.

So, anyone who caches in Australia in particular, but also worldwide, chime in on maps I need, please
