  1. How do I start my own category? How do I manage it? 1. Upgrade your account to Premium 2. Create a Group to help you manage the category (two Officers and a Leader) 3. Fill out the category submission form on your Group page 4. Submit your category to Peer Review I have formed a Civil War Group and have the required number of Officers. There is no "category submission form" on my Group Page. I just have the drop down menu showing the only category I currently own (not a Civil War-type category.) I want to create a new category for this group to manage, go through peer review and get it up and running. I did not click on the "group doesn't want to manage a category" box. So...how do I start a new category? Is there a bug here? Shouldn't I have a Category Submission Form on the group page? Thanks, showbizkid
  2. Such a broad category could get way out of hand. Subcategories for churches in a given state may be okay. There are already groups for Churches over 100 years old, Mormon Temples, Cathedrals. etc.
  3. I say a photo is the best and fairest way to assure a valid visit. There are some category owners (I guess we should say "leaders" now) or don't feel this way. I disagree. Photos are proof.
  4. No, I did not click the Not Interested box. When you originally set up your group, did you click on the "[click here if your group is NOT interested in managing a category]" link by any chance?
  5. Bruce: I do not have the four step box on my group page. The only thing showing is the drop-down menu with existing categories I own. Nothing whatsoever about new category formation. Nate? Some help? -David On the group page above the officer list there should be a box showing 4 steps. The first one is Create Your Category. Click this and you are on your way.

  7. Link takes me to the page of groups I already belong to.
  8. I have opened a Movie and TV Locations Management Group and I am seeking recruits. I would like to get 5 other waymarkers to join and become officers. This group will manage the existing Movie Locations category. This category seeks filming locations all over the world where movies and TV shows have been shot. Waymarkers are asked to provide a still frame, frame cap or promotional image from a film and log this image with a current photo they've taken of the location. Those with an interest in Hollywood who can help other waymarkers with basic HTML and/or securing frame caps are invited to post here and give me a bit of background on why you'd like to participate. Thanks. -showbizkid
  9. I have opened a Civil War Group and I am seeking recruits. I would like to get 10 other waymarkers to join. Here is the group's proposed mission: This group will manage categories related to the American Civil War of 1861-1865. In the South, this conflict is sometimes referred to as "The War Between the States", "The War for Southern Independence" or "The Late Unpleasantness." There are numerous potential waymark categories for this group to manage. These might include Civil War Battlefields, Civil War Monuments, Graves of Civil War Officers, etc. (Exceptions are those categories already proposed - Civil War Discovery Trails and Statues of Civil War Generals.) Waymarks need not be limited to areas where the war was actually fought (primarily the South). Many cities and states in the North have erected monument to fallen soldiers. The remains of a number of Union soldiers originally buried in the South were disinterred and relocated to the North after the war and buried there. The group’s mission is to keep the memories of this important conflict alive and give other waymarkers an opportunity to do the same. Please post if you are interested and give me a bit of background on why you'd like to participate. Thanks. -showbizkid
  10. I am again the victim of an absentee category manager. This is for the Airports category. Nearly every time I post, I wait and wait and finally get approval. In this case, though, the Category Owner hasn't logged in to the site in almost four weeks. I don't know if he's MIA or what. I did e-mail him, hoping for a response. Rather than wait until June, wouldn't it behoove the Groundspeak Gods to look into these absentee category owners? These little glitches can keep the game from being fun and might run some users off before group management is fully implemented. And that raises another issue. What about category owners who don't recruit group members? Do they lose the category and does it go up for grabs? showbizkid
  11. Another bug?: In the pre-update days, when you posted a photo to a log, then went to the log, the photo would appear next to the log. Now you only get a thumbnail. Seeing photos (not thumbnails) on log pages is just as important. Many categories require a photo. We should all be able to view these easily, not have to click multiple times. showbizkid
  12. CPT Kelly: Just a thought. I learned early on that if you try and give a photo in a specific waymark gallery the same name, you get the Virtual Directory cannot be listed warning. Give photos a different name and they work. showbizkid
  13. A few notes on new software. Not sure if this was intentional or not: Red check mark next to waymarks visited isn't appearing. This isn't helping me keep track of waymarks I haven't yet visited, On Stats page, when you click the number of visited waymarks in a category, it doesn't show all of my visits as before. Instead, a red message: "There are no records within 10 miles of the location you selected" appears. Then under "Waymark search," the default goes to all waymarks, not the category. I like to feature where images are added by default to the waymark page. -showbizkid

  15. I think there's a bug in the system. ChapterhouseInc was able to upload a 2172 Kb image on their Sphinx Sculptures waymark. Pix is 2592 pixels by 1944 pixels. Most of the other pictures they've posted are over 600 pixels.
  16. This is interesting since the system is supposed to resize large photos and the largest pixel width or height is 600 pixels. The picture you've uploaded is 2592 pixels by 1944 pixels and the file size is 2172 Kb. This is way too big. If you're running Windows, you can use the Paint program to "Stretch/Skew" to reduce the image and then reload it. You have to archive the image first to load the new one. I am going to try and send you a resized pic through e-mail and see if that helps.
  17. I would love to manage this one or be part of a group to manage it. I worked in Hollywood for 15 years and now have left the business and moved out of state. But movies and TV are still my passion.
  18. I think it's great that people can log waymarks in categories they own. Why not let them? They are obviously interested in the category or they wouldn't have agreed to become a category owner in the first place. This isn't like geocaching where is wouldn't be fair to be able to log in your own cache and rack up "visits."
  19. I agree with Jeremy that we should not be mixing apples and oranges. While there are some similarities with geocaching (like being able to log a visit to a waypoint), it's a different animal. We would do well to let the Groundspeak gurus do their thing and minimize the bellyaching or at least make it constructive. I am getting comfortable with the site after searching and posting and logging. It operates differently from geocaching.com and there are probably some user functions that could be laid out better or be clearer. Overall, I like the site and am looking forward to formal launch. For those complaining that there are no waymarks near them, you can select any appropriate category, find something local that matches and log it in. Easy. I managed to find 16 in about 10 days in a ten mile radius of my home and I don’t live in a big city.
  20. This is already a "locationless" cache that will probably be transfered to Waymarking.
  21. Unlike some states, North Carolina doesn't always locate markers at the exact location of a historic site, but sometimes as much as a few miles away. North Carolina historic markers are located (usually) along major roads or state highways. I suppose this way more people will be exposed to historic sites than if they were placed on minor road. These markers are all over the place in North Carolina and I'd like to see a category for these on Waymarking.com.
  22. I fixed my pages by uploading the images to the cache page on geocaching.com, then using those images for the img src="" code. To find the address of the image, click on the image title above Logged Visits and click on it to open a new page and get the http address for the image. Only images actually uploaded to geocaching.com will display. Images hosted elsewhere will just give you a pagemarker or broken link. Font colors on my pages were never stripped. I hear from others that esoteric names for colors no longer work, but regular colors and hex code colors work for me. quote:Originally posted by scooterj:After reading all the pages of this thread I am lost. Is this something Jeremy is still fixing, is this something we all need to change at our own end, or is it broken forever? None of the IMG tags are working on any of my caches (when viewing the source the SRC= portion is missing, even though it shows up when I edit the listing) and none of my font colors work either.

  24. Wow. So how extensive is this problem? Not just code and images disappearing, but existing images can't be deleted? quote:Originally posted by outforthehunt:I can't delete uploaded pictures from a cache page.Anyone else tried this.
