  1. I downloaded CasheSense Demo for Android on my Samsung Galaxy S3 and today was the best day we've had geocaching! It would only let us "download" three caches, but we could still use the compass option to navigate to as many as we wanted, which was fine because I wasn't interested in logging finds by my phone anyway. When GPS was enabled on my phone it was DEAD ON! Got us to withing arms distance of GZ every time. We especially liked the "find nearby caches" option. There were several that we wouldn't have hunted otherwise. obxWaMi
  2. I purchased the geocaching app for my ipod touch (yes, it was a waste to have it there, but I was very excited to have it). Now I have a smart phone with android. Do I have to purchase the app again or is there a way to transfer it to my current phone?
  3. I don't know if this will help, but the zip code for Kill Devil Hills (pretty much the middle of the OBX) is 27948. I've only ever used this method to locate caches where I was visiting. There are a good many caches here. A number of them are puzzle caches if you are into thoses (we aren't). We live in Manteo and have always wanted to do a loop starting here and going south on Rt 12, taking the the ferry to Ocracoke, take the other ferry to Swan Quarter and following Hwy 64/264 back home.
  4. We are going out of town tomorrow to celebrate the geocaching anniversary. We have 19 caches planned and decided to stop by a few local caches that we've already logged to pick-up TBs and coins. We want to move them along tomorrow. So far we've already visited one cache, but I suddenly wondered if it was really okay to do it this way. Please reply to this question ASAP! THANKS HAPPY ANNIVERSARY! obxWAMI
  5. We found lock-n-lock containers at Harris Teeter.
  6. We wanted to be a litle more specific as to our location. obx--Outer Banks of NC Wa--Wayne Mi--Michelle
  7. I'm a newbie that doesn't intend to quit. I only have about 30 finds under my belt, but I'm already planning how to celebrate my 100th and my 1,000th. As usual, I jumped into geocaching with both feet within a few days of learning of it. Found my first cache within 20 minutes of purchasing my GPS. I ran out the next day and bought a backpack and about $30 worth of swag. Over the past two weeks I've purchased a premium membership, a Palm m500, cachemate, and GSAK. A few days ago I ordered a TB and I have made ready our travel item and it's goal, and I've already decided which cache we are going to place it in while we are on Spring Break in a few weeks. Oh, I have also created a map and list of the caches in the area we will be visiting. Because of my hubby's bad back (4 major surgeries in 3 years) we have had to pace ourselves. Being a "all or nothing" go-getter, this is a good thing, ((I hate admitting that)) because otherwise I would have quit my job and cached every available daylight hour. The only thing that would make this better for me is having someone to cache with when the weather is good, but my hubby's back isn't.
  8. As long as I can keep my plate number I want one. I have one of the original series OBX plates and I wouldn't want to risk losing it. If there is a list, add me to it.
  9. To all who assisted me, THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU! I purchased, installed, and upgraded as suggested and IT WORKED! I am now PAPERLESS and I have 96 caches downloaded into my Palm m500. (yep, I do still hate my Centro)
  10. Just got my palm m500-- it's great. I really like that the screen is much larger than the one on my phone and it seems easier to navigate than my phone (simple minded me). I'm seriously considering going back to my simple cell phone and giving the Palm Centro to my daughter. QUESTION--I went to Cachemate, whats the difference the <download> and <purchase>? Which one do I need? I read the features and it appears to me that I need to purchase, but I just wanted to check. Thanks
  11. I read about it in an outdated issue of Our State Magazine (NC) while at the doctor's office. It was the Jan. 2007 issue.
  12. Tiny is an understatement. The only one we found was the size of a couple of aspirin stacked on one another. Thankfully it was the first stage of a multi. I can't imagine trying to sign the log in one.
  13. I came across an article about geocaching in Our State magazine while sitting in our doctor's office waiting room. The issue was a year old and besides the geocaching article it had a several page spread about a friend of ours, William Ivey Long. I had to have it, so I went out to our car and got a stack of outdated magazines that I had accumulated and swapped them for that one issue. My first thoughts after reading the article were 1. WOW, this sounds like fun, kind of like a treasure hunt 2. Maybe I can trick my hubby into taking me convince my hubby to take me hiking/camping again (he vowed never to go with me again after I pitched a fit and destroyed a tent because I couldn't get it to sit level)
  14. Gotta add.....Another step closer to paperless! I just won an ebay auction for a Palm m500.
  15. First, Thank You to everyone who replied. You have all been a big help. Second, I UPGRADED to a PREMIUM MEMBERSHIP! Tonight I am way too tired, but I will upload the other needed programs soon. I'm sure I will need help, so watch these forums for my questions. Thanks again, and I'm looking forward to going PAPERLESS!
  16. My hubby wanted me to upgrade to a more technological cell phone for a long time. Well, my last cell finally bit the dust and he convinced me to get the Palm Centro. It is so cute in pink and my daughters are jealous, but after more than a month of using it, I HATE IT! I can make a call on it and I've practically become a solitaire expert, but I can't figure out much more. I was really disappointed to find that the Web on the stupid thing looks nothing like the Web on my laptop. I should have known I wouldn't be happy with anything that small that had multiple instructions manuals the size of an unabridged Webster's dictionary. I really want to learn to use this and I really want to like it. Can anyone help me? We don't have a printer, so we write down all the info on any cache we decide to search for. This is getting really old really fast. I want to go paperless. I've tried downloading the programs from here so that I can send cache info to my pc and to my palm, but I couldn't figure out how to make them work so I uninstalled and deleted them. Is my biggest problem (besides being technologically challenged) the fact that I'm not a premium member? I must add that I need step-by-step directions to do anything with electronic devices. (and please use simple words) Thanks, Michelle
  17. Thanks for the great ideas. I will probably attach the coins to a TB. BTW--the 5th coin is going to be a compass rose. ---Michelle
  18. I started a jewelry class today and our first assignment is a texture on metal assignment. We are to make a set of 5 "buttons", roughtly the size of 50cent pieces. I will be cutting them out of 22 gauge copper sheet . Each one is to be different, but they have to be related in some way. I was thinking about designing them with fire, water, earth, and air. (I haven't decided about the 5th one yet.) My question is this... Regardless of the designs, if I'm happy with my results can I make them trackable? I can use metal stamps to imprint them with my name, a number, or some other identifying marks.
  19. I understand the TB's, but now I'm really confused about how coins work. If a coin doesn't have a tracking number on it you can keep it?? I've only seen two, both were left by the same person- in different caches here in my area. I didn't pick one up because I thought the idea was to move coins from cache to cache and I knew I wouldn't be leaving my local area any time soon. I didn't even take time to inspect them, but I don't think they had tracking numbers on them. Were they meant to be swapped like other SWAG? I would love to collect coins, please help me get started... obxWaMi Michelle Adding more confusion--- I read a few more posts and I'm more confused.. Are trackable coins collected too?
  20. WOW! 13 miles each way. That's a marathon. Hats off to those "hardy souls".
  21. OMG! I've posted all mine the same day I found them. I hadn't give any thought as to posting a find on a day other than the day I found it. Glad I read this post. Thanks
  22. I consider myself the poster child for the technologically challenged, but I bought a Garmin eTrex Legend a week ago and I found my first cache only 30 minutes after opening the package (in the car). Since then we have located a total of 13. Enjoy the thrill of the hunt.
  23. I searched "geocache" on ebay and found tons of crazy cache boxes...Do people really use those things? Fake dog poop, hollowed out pinecones, magnetic fake bolts and the like? If they do, is there a way to know before we begin searching? I don't think we are quite ready for such stealth. Michelle
