Memory Map Geocaching Overlay
Big Black Bunny replied to thunderbird30's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
There is a thread about geocacheuk, Lets hope it will be back soon. I think the best thing you could do would be to start a new thread saying which area you are in and asking for some one to email you a copy of their overlay. I have one saved for 50 miles around The New Forest, but it only shows the ones I have not found yet. -
This whole area is riddled with tunnels. I have been in box mines,( I even went to a stag night down there) but you do need an expert and the right equipment. Would this count as burying the cache? For more information on things underground try this site. click here corsham page

That explains that then. Thank you. More on topic. Is that the maximum number that can be shown? Or can you get a double row.

One of them is listed as a GB geocoin is this UK related? I thought the UK ones were not going to have an icon on GC

Castles With Caches - N Hampshire
Big Black Bunny replied to flukey's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
This one is not far and it's a good cache. Carry on round the castle -
Don’t believe a word of what they tell you. It’s just that the hot weather has caused the cream cheese to expand. There may be a locationless or virtual cache for spotting it.

You need to look at a recent os map for your area and under the technical information banner you will find the magnetic variation. It changes by about 11' east every year. More info can be found here. OS website

You mean you told them what you get upto. I told every one I have a contract to check the contor lines for the OS in case someone has moved one or stolen some.

Some while ago there was a proposal from Voda Phone, I think, to fit phones with a special sim card. This would enable the phone to be tracked on a mapping system like Memory Map. The idea was that companies would supply the phones to their reps. Without them being aware that they could be tracked, this way the company could check if people were where they said they were. I am not aware if this every came to fruition, but it would indicate that even several years ago it was possible.

No New Guidelines Announced!
Big Black Bunny replied to wildlifewriter's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Well that’s the last straw, I’m not going to do anything as well. Maybe then the people responsible for this outrage will realise that they just can’t go on making nothing happen. PS who is JI? Not the man in charge? -
Good sentiment, although at some of the cache sites I have visited you would need a skip lorry not a bin bag. Perhaps the numbers cacher could start totalling how many bin bags they fill rather than lunch boxes found , that should have a big impact on the amount of trash left in the country side. Trasher of the month league table?

This is a great multi cache but while I was planning to do it I visited the cache page several times. The first time you hear the music its ok(at least it only plays through once) after you have heard it a few times it starts to drive you mad. GCHTY5 The music on the interception home page is anouther good contender, but I think so far SP is in lead with his submission to the "all time bottom 10 cache page themes". By the way in IE go to tools/options/advanced scroll down to multimedia and you can switch web page music on or off.

I used to pass by a local cache on a regular basis, and I often found it to be exposed in broad daylight. I would re-hide it well only to find that it had been uncovered again a few days later, with no logged visits. In the cache was a sparkly smelly pen and I believe it was the scent from the pen that was attracting dogs/badges or foxes to drag the cache out in the open. Even the scent from someone who has recently been eating their sandwiches would rub of on a cache and attract attention to it. As TDW has said children finding an ammo box hidden in the woods would be delighted, I am only surprised the contents has been left behind. What we need are special stealth cache boxes which can only be seen if your wearing geocaching specs. Like these.←

Changing The Status Of Caches
Big Black Bunny replied to Padmassana's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
It would seem to work. I don't want to go as far as logging it because I may not be able to delete it afterwards. Maybe you should delete this link and send it by email to those that need it. -
Changing The Status Of Caches
Big Black Bunny replied to Padmassana's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
The insert card that should go into every cache, just in case it's found by accident, invites muggles to join in and log the cache. How can they do this with members only caches. Maybe the cache page instructions should be hidden to non members, but those finding by chance should be allowed to log. -
What Are The Chances..... ?
Big Black Bunny replied to The J J Noodle Fan Club's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Judging by the latest figures I would say 6,415,994,280 to 1 Click here -
Thanks for the heads up. I've just checked mine and it needs replacing. I wonder how microsoft were intending to let me know. I am on their xbox email list but I have heard nothing. Some might find it funny, but I don't think mine or anyone else's house burning down is amusing. Typo's

I have followed a couple of links from emails generated by my watch list, but when I view the cache page these cacher's logs are not there. I have just read a note posted on another cache page saying they had posted a log but it had not shown up. Is this due to the new page format? Has anyone else noticed missing logs?

Cache Detector? Csi Ny Ipaq Gadget
Big Black Bunny replied to Big Black Bunny's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
Can't you just use Curly Kale Save a lot of time. -
I can get on to the main page but communication centre link returns a 404 error. Is this due to the influx of new cachers or is the fault at my end?

I had a similar problem with a £250.00 processor chip, whilst getting it out of the plastic bubble it was supplied in I bent one of the pins over. There followed a very sweaty, breath holding twenty minutes while I used a wooden toothpick to straighten it out, whilst telling the owner this was a normal pre-insertion procedure. I read recently that 8Gb SD cards are on their way. The whole UK on your ipaq plus a couple of field guides to plants and animals, even “The Encyclopaedia Britannica”. I love the small size of these cards (amazed when I first saw one) but I will be extra careful when changing them in future.

Cache Detector? Csi Ny Ipaq Gadget
Big Black Bunny replied to Big Black Bunny's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
After a little more googling (If you think hunting lunch boxes is odd, there are forums out there where people argue over the fictional relationships portrayed in TV programmes) it seems that the gadget (Think of a timing strobe with an ipaq mounted on the back) was supposedly “a laser spectrum analyser”. Now I know lasers are used to check chimney stack emissions, but it would seem artistic licence was at work again. This is the programme that does D.N.A. analysis in less than twenty minutes and also uses copious amounts of superglue and never gets stuck to anything. Well I will just have to keep the old nerderling stick for cache detection. After all it doesn’t need batteries, works in the wet and if you break it, you can just pick up another. -
Did anyone else see “csi new York” on c5 last night. They had some kind of spectrum analyser which looked like a radar gun with a ipaq attached. I did not hear an explanation of what they said it was, as I was channel hopping. This gadget could supposedly detect trace elements, like a lead bullet in at rat at 50 paces. Is this the ultimate cahce detector (if so, where can I get one from?) or total fiction. I want one!

English Nature Is Going To Go.
Big Black Bunny replied to Big Black Bunny's topic in United Kingdom and Ireland
From what I remember of the programme. No time scale has yet been announced. It seems they can’t even think of a new name for the organization, which will replace English Nature, The Rural Development Agency and The Countryside Agency. How about “Great English Organization Concerning All Countryside Homeland Estates.” Or GEOCACHE for short. -
New Caches Everywhere!

Now it's not just "leaves on the line" that are going to delay the trains. But "leaves on the trees" and "clouds in the sky"
