  1. Do you mean that the only way to check if a person did really find it is by the crossed-out letters, and only the owner can verify if it is the correct letters in the correct sentence? A log book, in this case, would only be found in a separate cache, relatively nearby...because if the first one is to be proof, then it must be the only way to get to the final one...at least this variation sounds like a mini-multi cache, with only two caches. The first with the words thing, and the second with the log book. Perhaps the sentence or quote or just a bunch of words (that need not make any sense) need all the letters of the alphabet in it? Cool idea! Maybe another variation would be that you, the cacher-maker, provides only a certain set of letters, and the visitors must make a sentence out of them that describes something in the area...and only you can verify it...and they can report their findings, and each time someone must come up with something new. If the letters you provide are exhausted, then maybe change them once a while to renew the letter-pool. Very cool idea you have. __________ Kanto
  2. Other possibities: 1 - Password must be re-typed each time 2 - Click the "Modify" button 3 - Premium Preferences may have something to do with it 4 - Click the "Signature" box while writting your message. Hope it helps find the problem, or at least eliminate possibilities. __________ Kanto

We know who you might be... Yes, I thought it may have been the wrong term for that context...what I meant to use was Imperial...they are similar aren't they? Though, for the freudian and suspicions, don't get you're hopes up...I've never been to these forums with any other identity than you see now. Give it up, you're barking up the wrong tree. __________ Kanto

  6. How is that a contradiction to my poll? Honestly, I just don't see it. Why do you attack me, prime suspect? I am only trying to possibly understand a problem here, let alone solve it.
  7. What I get from your meaning, is that the best thing is not to respond, not even once to anyone starting something. There are times, though, that 100% tolerance does not do it. There are times, when the stand must be made, even if in forums (of all contexts ). Debating must be like gambling...a matter of knowing when to quit...and only become bickering or an obsession when one cannot quit...
  8. quote:Originally posted by canadazuuk:From your profile: _Think a little while, then go out and DO IT !!_ Kanto, how long are you going to think? Are you trying to remember who you really are? My answer to this, is found in this thread, in the relevant forum. __________ Kanto

If you don't like the bickering, close your eyes, you aren't forced to read it. This of course presumes there IS bickering. Does your 4 days on the site really mean you know all about these forums? 1-This will not last long. 2-As my profile says, I have a transportation problem...and I'm working on it. 3-As my profile says, I have already planned the routes I will take. 4-If in my POLL has an option: This idea is no good, then how much more proof do you need that I am objective as possible in this? 5-As my profile says : my hobby is Problem Solving...and that activity requires experience and ideas...and forums used by humans, no matter the context, are all extremely similar. In that I have experience, but my NUMBERS for geocaching have nothing to do with forum-etiquette. If they do, then please explain it to me. 6-There is bickering. __________ Kanto
  10. Perhaps then, an automatic admin type program that will delete or close off a thread which has a certain rate of being posted or the same users being posted over a really short time? How would we practically control this type of thing? People would have to be kicked off temporarily or permanently...yes, that has been done before in other forums. If they come back as something else, then eventually either the admin can control the number of accounts or they will be tired of making new identities over and over, just to come and argue. Their behaviour is attitude-based, and that is more difficult to influence, than the number of times they sign on or use bad words and such things (which is a controllable thing with computers). Perhaps you're right, making a prison for the bikering may encourage it more, but at least it will not be spread everywhere in all the forums, interrupting everybody. Maybe that is a temporary solution to when they do have more control over it...just how many users care about it?? Hence the poll. Hoping this helps.
  11. (The poll only has five options) Another Possibility: A permanent FORUM just for bickering. Hopefully this won't escalate to the point that we are arguing about arguing... That would be a prime example of a good intention gone as bad as can be eh? _________ Kanto
  12. __________ For those who are caught somehow in bickering or some type of argument (whether the tone is happy or surly or sarcastically whatever...) AND for those who care not to witness such things interrupting their more relevant topics, please let this poll be the humble beginnings of a resolution...or not. QUESTION: Would you like the geocaching.com site to provide a permanent bickering place for those to take their arguments elsewhere? Thanks! __________ Kanto

How do you define a banner ad Jomarac5? __________ Kanto
  16. quote:Originally posted by Jomarac5:Kanto -- thanks for getting rid of the annoying banner ad signature. ***** Er...you're welcome. Also, since in the forums there is a lot of repetition...as there is in real life and in the news, and in all forms of media and communication, everywhere. Why do we continue to communicate, despite all the same stories that happen day in day out, year in year out, all over the world? I do not wish to make an enemy here, but this is sincerely interesting. (The communication part). ON a more sarcastic and defensive note... What about that carleenP's pikachu, if that were combined with a quote caleenP liked, and placed in a box, and with a link to some pikachu site, would you ask her to rid of it as well? Maybe if it was smaller...
  17. I am not even surprised that of everyone's advertising of their own sites and their pictures in their own signatures, mine was the only one that insulted you. I thought a public grievance is more obnoxious than a private one. Funny how when I meant to share a good quote and a positive activity, and combine them into one nice little package...you feel attacked. I truly did not mean to impose anything. Point taken nonetheless.
  18. I think they have such softwares for planning vacations, only the destination options include hotels, motels, attractions, and other distractions...which can be specified in your search, using variables like cost, time, distance, etc... Since geocaching.com is already partially integrated with mapquest.com, then I think it wouldn't be too hard to do your idea, because mapquest.com already has the option I mentioned above. Perhaps hotels.com has a similar system for the traveller. It is definitely a good idea, if your trip is long enough (spanning several postal codes)...the shorter trips may simply be so short that all you need is a local postal code. Also, in Canada, pilots receive a Canada Flight Supplement, which is like an airport-dictionnary, and you can look up airports alphabetically...and as you plan your cross-country flight, there is information in the book (for each airport where it applies), for services like (taxi, rent-a-car, avgas, hotels, food, etc.). I don't know if it integrated with the net yet. I would be very useful if it were, such as weather reports and weather maps (which are available and constantly updated on the net). ______________________________________________ Kanto ______________________________________________

  21. NOTE: This only relates to the thread in that it follows up a question about how measuring systems in 50 years will change. Yes, I've only seen them in metres...for example on the news from a USA Channel, or in a magazine which reports USA stories related to aviation (in USA)..etc. In Canada, I've only heard of altitudes reported and written in feet, from various sources (more direct than indirect, since I've only flown in Canada, not USA yet). DIRECT USA SOURCE - Oshkosh NOTE: Once you click on the link, a search result will appear. The first item has a reference in metres, and the others have references to feet. This is new to me, and perhaps USA has been using both all this time, depending on the context. Where is "WannaFly" Geocacher with the airplane as an Avatar? __________ Kanto [This message was edited by Kanto on July 17, 2003 at 09:14 AM.]
  22. Hello 1-Center of the Earth This may be calculated using equations linked to Center of Mass (which takes in variables like volume, mass, and relative distances of those)...or there could be other ways. 2-Yes, I have similar difficulty initially visualising unfamiliar measuring systems, but the more I work with them, on a consistent basis, the visualisation also becomes more accurate. __________ Kanto
  23. WARNING : TANGENT Sluggo signed: This 'flying saucer' situation is not at all imaginary or seeing too much in some natural phenomena. I just finished reading Arthur C. Clarke's The Final Odyssey : 3001, and in it he explains that UFOs were finally proven to be a type of atmospheric phenomenon...and I forgot what he called it...but it was something like "quick-lighting"...and I am sure if you look up in Google "Arthur Clarke 3001 UFOs Lightning" you may get a more accurate and complete story than what I provided here.
