Nikwax here too. Put it on with your fingers and rub it well in...the warmth from your fingers with help melt the wax into the leather. Make sure you go over all the stitches and welts of the boots as well as the leather.

Mine did too. Start FF in safe mode and disable any addons... then add them back one and a time to see which one was causing the problem HTH
