Can't quite confirm that. It looks as if there is some improvement, but it's still happening. If I look at this page, it took about 5 minutes to load and several avatars are wrong (five out of seventeen) Edit: after posting this the page reloaded and then 8 avatars out of (now) 18 postings were wrong. Took about 3 minutes to load completely.

This page took ages to load again. Just two examples: There were many more that were wrong.

Are you serious? If you really would have been reading through the postings you can see that various people are using various O/S and browsers. Several have offered help but so far no to the point comments from GS. And several have noticed it only happening when visiting the GS site. I noticed it as well visiting a GS related site like I mentioned in one of my postings (see posting 122). But if Groundspeak treads complaints this way, I understand why people are reacting to my posting on the Dutch forum, asking them to contribute if they are encountering this problem, the way they are, stating they don't want to make the effort to contribute because Groundspeak won't take it seriously anyway. And so far they seem to be right, it's close to four months now since Knowchad filed the complaint and this is only posting 223 so far. As far as your questions: Several people using several browsers and seeing it. On my side: No accelerator, no proxy, no pipelining, and it's only happening on the GS-site. Edit: I looked at the pages you linked to. I have not studied them in every detail, but for what I've seen on those pages I've been trying it allready, like clearing caches and cookies, disabling AV-software (I'm using Avast Antivirus). But because this phenomena is only visible on the GS (related) pages I'm sure the problem is not on my side but at GS.

It's four months now. And the fun is going on.... When is Groundspeak going to take this on.... or don't they regard this to be an serious issue? It looks as if the problem was getting worse last week or so. Had several pageviews and the only avatar visable was my own for every poster. But also on the cachepages it's a mess every now and then. Just another example: Any info about this ongoing story is greatly appreciated!!

Yes, have to "raise my voice". I won't post pictures as I get tired of all the mess I see. Last week it was fairly good, hardly any problem. Untill it started again yesterday or the day before. And today it's a big mess!!! Pages loading slowly and all kind of pictures and avatars messed up. I realy, realy, REALY, REALY!!!!!! hope for improvement on short notice. But I have to admit, the way GS responded to our requests and reports makes me think they are ignoring this very annoying problem, or at least hardly putting effort in solving it. Should I renew my PM?

The procedure I outlined accounts for errors. Not quite true. What you find out indeed is a certain offset. But no way can you be shure that the Googles co-ordinates are correct and the GPS is 100 % correct. And if the GPS is a 100 % correct at that moment (quite unlikely) it can be off remarkably in a few minutes. One can observe this by putting the GPS on a nice, open spot. Put it on the ground or a bench or whatever, as long as it is stable and stationary. Now observe the readout for some time and wonder how it is 'wandering' around. So the offset recorded at a certain moment can be a lot different a few minutes later.

Don't rely on the accuracy of Google maps too much. I've seen occasions where they were out for hundreds of feet. They can be dead on but often are out for quite some distance.

I hate those short logs consisting of just a few characters. Most of all I hate the logs like: TFTC logging from my.... using ..... If it's too much effort to comment on a cache, being positive or negative, stop Geocaching. It tells me more about the attitude of that particular Cacher than it tells me about the quality of the cache. I've seen beautifull located caches with many TFTC logs. How disrespectfull towards the owner. Even if you don't like a cache because of .....(whatever), tell it and the owner can take advantage of your comment and adapt the cache if possible/needed.

By coincidence the same discussion (more or less) on the Dutch forum. People seem to think that, due to more modern receivers, the accuracy should have improved as well. But no. Receiver accuracy basically has not changed. The receivers are better, more sensitive, indeed, so reception has improved, making it possible to use the receiver under worse conditions than "in the early days" But what not has changed are things that affect the reception and quality of the GPS-signals like atmosferic conditions, Highrise buildings, narrow canyons etc. But then, even in open and flat areas the atmosferic conditions can make your GPSposition wander around. I do visit Confluencepoints sometimes. I was the first visitor of two points, both in Kasakhstan. In the middle of nowhere, see HERE and HERE . Both located in flat area, more or lesse desert with just some low vegetation, no trees to been seen in any direction, no highrise buildings . I tried to pinpoint the location as precisely as possible by observing my GPS for about 10 to 15 minutes and keeping it as steady as possible. Finally I was able to get a more or less dead on reading. But I needed quite a lot of pictures to get one showing the 000 reading on my GPS. In one location I gave up. Lowest I could get was 002. Even in a steady position your GPS-location will wander around. 20-30 feet is no exception.

Het grote probleem is kennelijk dat er geen peil op te trekken valt wanneer het wel of niet optreedt. Er zijn rapporten van mensen die er maanden geen last van hebben en dan ineens wel weer. Operating System (Windows XP,Vista,7 dan wel Linux) of Browser lijkt ook geen verschil te maken. Op gegeven moment dacht ik dat het mogelijk aan mijn antivirus-software lag toen ik las dat iemand anders die het probleem ook heeft dezelfde AV-software gebruikte. Maar bij mijn broer's computer is een hele andere AV software geïnstalleerd en daar is het probleem meteen opgedoken bij het openen van de allereerste Groundspeak pagina ooit op die computer. Vervolgens heb ik thuis toch nog maar eens gekeken wat het resultaat was met de AV software uitgeschakeld en dat leek in eerste instantie inderdaad verschil uit te maken, maar even later trad het fenomeen toch weer op. Dus heb ik dat idee ook maar weer achter me gelaten. Maar irritant blijft het. Ik hoop dat ze er bij Groundspeak uit komen, want één ding is wel duidelijk, het ligt aan het downloaden vanaf www.img.geocaching.com/user/avatar/.... Foto's die ergens anders gehost worden leveren geen probleem op en op andere fora heb ik geen last, tenzij die ook gebruik maken van de Groundspeak servers. Fotogravin, Bedankt voor het idee, maar dat maakt allemaal niets uit. Ik heb het tot vervelens toe geprobeerd, ook anderen, maar de conclusie is dat het geen verschil maakt. Ik gebruik IE8, maar gebruikers van andere browsers (Chrome, Firefox) hebben precies dezelfde ervaringen. Zelfs als je werkt met een 'geocaching-maagdelijke' computer treedt het effect op. Er is ook al geopperd of de provider er mogelijk aan gerelateerd was, maar ook dat lijkt onwaarschijnlijk. Zo was ik vorige week bij mijn broer op bezoek. Ik woon in het westen en heb XS4all, hij woont in zuid-limburg en KPN is zijn provider. Hij heeft recentelijk een nieuw systeem gekocht. Ik ben via zijn systeem naar de site van zowel geocaching.nl als naar Groundspeak geweest. En het was meteen raak. Zowel op Groundspeak als op geocaching.nl werden allerlei afbeeldingen door elkaar gegooid. Typisch is wel dat, áls het fenomeen optreedt (en het gebeurt niet altijd, ook bij mij niet) ik het ook vaak op de site van geocaching.nl zie gebeuren. Het gaat dan onveranderlijk om plaatjes die van de Groundspeak image servers moeten worden opgehaald. En op het moment van optreden van het fenomeen is het beeld altijd hetzelfde. Als je een pagina oproept dan laad die óf in een flits en is er niets aan de hand, óf het duurt een hele tijd voor de benodigde afbeeldingen opgehaald zijn. Als die dan eenmaal opgehaald zijn - het kan dan wel minutenlang duren dat je de melding in de trant van "wachten op downloaden van ...", op de meldingsregel van de browser ziet staan - is het eigenlijk altijd een puinhoop. Avatars en afbeeldingen zijn dan vrijwel altijd door elkaar gehusseld en je moet maar raden wat er bij wat hoort. Dat is dus niet alleen op de fora, maar treedt ook op op de cachepagina's. En tot nu toe - en ik bezoek heel wat fora - treedt het alleen op bij geocaching. nl en de Groundspeak pagina's en altijd gaat het om plaatjes van de image servers van Groundspeak. Plaatjes die ergens anders gehost worden, zoals mijn screenshots hierboven, leveren nooit problemen op. Naar mijn idee, maar wie ben ik, zit het probleem dus overduidelijk in de Groundspeak servers. Hm, en terwijl ik een edit doe (tiepvout) op deze posting wordt mijn eigen avatar ineens verwisseld voor die van technetium. Dat heb ik nog nooit zien gebeuren dat een avatar ineens verwisseld werd: Ineens zijn al mijn avatars op deze pagina verwisseld terwijl ze eerst correct waren. Zelfs deze: En die van technetium ziet er nu ineens zo uit: Irritant gewoon. Groet,

Van mijn standpunt uit gezien....jammer dat je er geen last van hebt. Als ik nu naar jouw posting kijk, dan ziet die er voor mij zo uit: Ik denk niet dat dit jouw avatar is.. Helaas blijkt dat het het fenomeen niet beperkt is tot avatars, maar kan het bij vrijwel elke afbeelding op de site voorkomen, dus ook op de cachepagina's. Zo zou het ook kunnen zijn dat er een foute afbeelding geladen wordt die van belang is voor het vinden van de cache. Uit niets blijkt echter dat er een foute afbeelding geladen werd en kun je dus op het verkeerde been worden gezet. Als je het draadje er eens op na leest zie je dat er voorbeelden te over zijn... Edit: En dit zie ik na het posten van de afbeelding hierboven. Niet gek voor een oude man... Dan kom jij er na verversen van pagina slechter van af: Groet,

Even een schopje. Nu, ruim twee, bijna drie, maanden later is er nog niets veranderd. Kennelijk wordt er in de ogen van Groundspeak te weinig over geklaagd en maakt men zich er dus niet of nauwelijks druk om. Ik heb inmiddels ook gemerkt dat het ook wel op het forum van Geocaching.nl optreedt, op het moment dat er afbeeldingen worden gebruikt die van de Groundspeak servers worden opgehaald. Mocht je dit ook opmerken en zeker als het je irriteert, post dan even in het betreffende draadje dat je HIER kunt vinden. Groet,

I think I know what you want to say, but AFAIK there is no indication at all this annoying problem is being adressed effectively. This thread started weeks ago, as a matter of fact on december 7th last year, and all we know is that Groundspeak could not reproduce the problems the users are encountering. I think some kind of update - be the result negative or positive - could be given every now and then. If it's difficult for Moun10bike to track the problem himself - and I'm convinced this is not the only problem he has to track/adress/tackle - one of the options can be that the software-engineer(s) involved report to him on a regular basis and this is relayed to us. This issue may not be on the top priority-list but informing the customers is the least Groundspeak can do. Dgwphotos even didn't get an answer on a simple question, even after giving information as why he is asking this question.

At this moment I'm visiting these pages using my brothers computer. He's living in a different part of the country, about 240 kms away. This computersystem was never used to visit the Groundspeak site so no trash from previous visits 'living' on this system. His provider is not the provider I have at home. However, the 'problem' on his 'vergin' computer is exactly the same. Scrambled pictures all over. MOST of the pages loading slowly (waiting for files from the image server.. //img.geocaching.com/user/avatar/....)resulting in scrambled pictures, some of them loading in a flash and loading correctly. Maybe this info is of some help.

Okay, understood. Please be so kind to keep us posted on a regular basis (f.i. once a week). That way we know what is happening and we don't have to ask the same question over and over again. The problem is very annoying as you know and when it happens it also keeps pages from loading quickly. As said before, it can take minutes for pages to load in that case.

I assume you have noticed the problem is not confined to the avatars only. They seem to suffer most of it, but it also happens with other images, like images in postings.See how Castle Mischief's posting above looked for about 2 minutes and how it looked thereafter: And after: And yes, it also happens when visiting another website, like the Dutch geocaching site. As soon as images are loaded from the Groundspeak servers there is a risk of wrong images being loaded.

Just kicking.... Have not noticed any posting regarding this being solved or not. Going through the forum, it looks as if the problem is still not solved. But have not read any message saying the devvers are still trying to find a solution or not or what Groundspeak is undertaking at the moment.

Is the posting above supposed to look like this? BTW it took ages to load the last picture ("the correct image is") I'm wondering or there is any progress in this ongoing matter? Looking at this page at this moment, all the avatars are messed up. And this guy "Pocileh", can't he be banned? His avatar is showing on allmost every page I'm visiting using all kind of names.

Ik denk het wel. Het vindt zijn oorsprong in de vraag of je al dan niet ingelogd moet zijn om bepaalde zaken te kunnen zien. Zo moet je dus ingelogd zijn om een profiel te kunnen bekijken, maar ook moet je ingelogd zijn om gegevens van een cache (coördinaten) te kunnen zien. Bloodwoosj gaf dit aan, waarna Waldio weer schreef dat je via een truuc (het uitprinten van de betreffende pagina) die blokkering kon omzeilen. Die bug is inmiddels gecorrigeerd.

Yup, had the same experience, see my previous posting (#122). This was on the Dutch Geocachers site/forum. At this moment - I have to say - everything seems to be all right. Pages are loading quickly and no wrong pictures. As well over here as on the Dutch site. Edit: Hold on, after having posted this message it took about four minutes for the page to load again and several avatars (Blorenges, Nebias, Kantear) were messed up. Cheers,

Dit is wel een heel oude maar toch nog even....het is kennelijk wel zo geweest dat voorheen de profielpagina's gewoon zichtbaar waren. Toevallig zag ik daarnet een DRAADJE waarin dit werd aangehaald. Zie met name posting nr 4 van de moderator. Destijds kon ik er niets over vinden en ik had er geen slapeloze nachten van dus ik heb me er verder niet meer druk om gemaakt, maar ik vond het wel leuk het hier nog even te vermelden.
