  1. Here, try this link at MSNBC Story about Lead in Vending Machine Costume Jewelry - Mark (S-4-C)
  2. Great. Now that I've seen Timer my ten gallon hat is feelin' five gallons flat and I'm hankerin' for a hunk o' cheese! Yeah, I'm a child of the 70's. - Mark (S-4-C)
  3. So.... Is cross-posting the best way to increase your post count? Aside from just annoying people trying to follow a thread (hard as that may be sometimes), Serial Cacher doesn't seem to be getting much of a following here. Out of curiosity I checked out the site since I had some free time. Not much there but a lot of hype about the future of the site. It may be an interesting alternative to the hobby, but the way that it is encouraged to place these caches "anywhere" kinda disturbs me. Seems like the users of this site will use this as an excuse to place their caches in wilderness areas or other spots that we try hard to avoid per the rules established by the governing authorities in those areas. I don't see much good coming from this, but I may be wrong. The site seems to be promoting a "radical, new direction" for our hobby, but I think it will only end up reflecting poorly on those of us in the mainstream. Did I just call geocachers MAINSTREAM?!? - Mark (S-4-C)
  4. Wow. It's amazing that you got that many sat locks waaaaaaaaaay out there. Those Legends must have better receivers than my Vista! - Mark (S-4-C)
  5. Oh, come on. De-thaw is ok. I'll even use it properly in a sentence. De-thaw the thign right before thhe hit it with her car. It would sound normal if Sylvester the cat said it. Sorry. Just couldn't resist. S-4-C
  6. Dino Hunters: I *like* the changes you've made to my avatar. Simple but effective. The colors punch up the graphic without overpowering the simple design. I've already implemented the change and will add it elsewhere as well. Thanks again! - Mark (S-4-C)
  7. Ole: PM sent to see if I'm calculating this one correctly. I think I have it right, but didn't want to give it away in the forums. - Mark (S-4-C)
  8. That Bletchley Park code can be a real enigma if you're not familiar with the history of the name... S-4-C
  9. Check out this thread: Signature Items Hmmm. My first Markwell. Hope this isn't going to become a habit - Mark (S-4-C)
  10. Cachengrab: Thanks for your efforts. I like the colorized version of the original. (Ooooh - that sounded like something Ted Turner would say. ) I may start using that one. Regards, - Mark (S-4-C)
  11. Interesting that I'm following Captain Kidd with my response. I had thought about leaving small vials with a grain of gold dust in them. That idea didn't pan out (groan..... unfortunate pun), so I decided to start leaving my official Cache Pirate instead. They're small enough to fit into film cannisters and are mighty detailed for their small size. I set out one today and hope to drop off another either tonight or early next week. I'm looking forward to reading the responses of the finders. Regards, - Mark (S-4-C)
  12. AH, Thanks for your reply. You may be right about just adding color. As I said earlier, there's not much that comes to mind for my avatar other that what I've got. I just hoped someone may have better ideas than my own. I'm an accountant, so my left brain rarely lets my right brain have any fun. Since the image is pretty grainy, if anyone out there can clean it up and give it some life I'd welcome the change. I like B&W for portraits and some still lifes, but sometimes color is necessary to give an image the punch it needs. Thanks to any and all for the work you are doing. I'm seeing some really nice work being done. And it's FREE! Regards, - Mark (S-4-C)
  13. Haffy6, Just be patient. I tossed mine out there a while back and am still looking forward to more of the ideas these artists can put on screen. Granted, mine may be a little more difficult than others. All of the efforts being shown on this thread are far beyond my abilities, so if anyone can come up with something for me I'm going to be extremely grateful. Since the thread has spanned 9 pages now, there's a lot of people with requests out there. Give the talent some time and I'm sure they'll give you something you'll be happy with. Regards, - Mark (S-4-C)
  14. I've used the idea that J&M Bella suggested prior to reading this thread. a 3/32 bit will give you a hole exactly the right size to slip the chain through. Here's a couple of pics as examples: The TB would have to be SEVERELY mistreated in order for the tag to come of this one. S-4-C
  15. I figured I repost my request here. Now that I understand the first attempt I think it's OK, but would like to see other people's ideas as well if possible. Kinda difficult to do anything with ours, but it can't hurt to ask... Thanks again, - Mark (S-4-C)
  16. I'll join as well. Currently I'm using a broom handle with a bicycle grip forced onto the top, but would prefer something that looks a little nicer. I've managed to find some fairly straight cedar, poplar and dogwood deadfalls that are about the right size for a staff, but would prefer some pointers before starting, and perhaps ruining, what could turn out to be a good looking staff. Thanks, - Mark (S-4-C)
  17. Cachengrab: Thanks for the effort, but I don't understand the avatar. Of course, when it's explained I'll probably say "Oh, I get it now", but at the moment I'm just confused. Regards, - Mark (S-4-C)
  18. I wanna play... I wanna play! As can be seen in my profile, my avatar has been created with standard clip art and some WordArt text modification. Nothing fancy, but it got the job done. Team Strapped-4-Cache consists of me (Strapped-4-Cache), wife Penny Wise and daughter Pocket Change. We'll be adding one more to the team through adoption, but that'll be a year or so before that happens. We cache with a Magellan SporTrak yellow and a Garmin Vista. The meaning behind the name should be self-evident but also has a dual meaning. We can't find enough caches, and we're often short of cash! Thanks for any help in punching up the family avatar a bit. Regards, - Mark (S-4-C)
  19. As others have already stated, the new issue is a great read. I enjoyed each article and am already looking forward to next month's issue. Thanks to everyone involved in the production of this magazine. Regards, - Mark (Strapped-4-Cache)
  20. Very good points, logscaler. One other thing about the smell of cat urine: My uncles and I were walking through the timber on our farm and smelled that really thick. We got to looking around and all the trees around us had really deep claw marks 4-5 feet up the trunks! This was in the same area we found a deer carcass up about 50 feet in the crotch of a tree a few years ago. Only one thing could do that: Mountain lions. Either way, I don't want to come across a mountain lion or an active meth lab in the woods. I'm still surprised we haven't found any meth labs on our land, as it is way out in the middle of nowhere and would be a perfect spot for it. Oh my gosh. I've just made the connection. Mountain lions have started making meth labs! What is this world coming to? Sorry for the levity - I got up waaaaay too early this morning and haven't had my coffee yet. S-4-C
  21. Kikki D: Be sure to check out the Georgia forum at ggaonline.org. I live in the 30044 area but work in the 30096 area. There's plenty of cachers out this way. Hope some of us will have some time to donate to you. Unfortunately, until this month is closed on the books I'll be rather busy for a while. Regards, - Mark (S-4-C)
  22. I stumbled across the graphic for my family's avatar after we had been caching for a short time. A little work with a graphics editor and I managed to get everyone's nickname to surround it. Not quite unique, but definitely special to us. Now we just have to come up with another nickname and re-work the graphic when we complete our adoption from China in about a year. Of course that'll be EASY compared to the adoption paperwork! Regards, - Mark (S-4-C)
  23. coast2coast2coast: I saw a similar thread recently and looked up the following: Recent Geocaching.com thread GGA Forum Thread Hope these come in handy for you. Regards, - S-4-C
  24. Mushtang: If you can find where Rebel has placed one, I have an answer for you. Rebel's Signature Item Not sure if he's started placing them out yet, but he may be willing to pass a couple along to you if you ask nicely. Just trying to help you find a local solution. Regards, - Mark (S-4-C)
