  1. Has this been suggested? As the bicentennial years there is a lot of emphasis on the Corps of Discovery with Lewis and Clark. There are natural formations like the Confluence of the Yellowstone and Missouri where they had an encampment, modern museums or centers, statues, lots of historic markers, festivities and reenactments, etc. This seems like a worthy effort to make up a compilation of events and places.
  2. Yes, that is right. I hope that means that it will automatically become a category. Those are fun to explore. Those that are kept secret, like in Escalante Staircase, for example, just wouldn't be included. It would only be those open to the public, which are usually protected in some way.
  3. Does this mean we wouldn't be able to log Earthcaches on GC.Com anymore? I really do like this new category of caches and if I see one anywhere near me, I like to visit them. I would hate to see these go away.
  4. I like this category. Neat windmills and even some windmill museums in the Great Plains area (I just visited a windmill museum with all kinds of great examples in Lubbock, TX).
  5. I like the idea of a list of festivals that occur at a particular time every year like the Olathe Sweet Corn Festival in Colorado which occurs the first weekend in August every year or Lakefest in Marble Falls, TX etc. There are hundreds of these and there could be subcategories but I would find it very useful and something that you don't find in GC.com because of the temporary nature of the festival. I am thinking subcategories would be nice too like State Fairs and Chili Cookoffs, Bluegrass Festivals, Hot Air Balloon Festivals etc. Could be very useful for people that are retired and travel around. I hope something along this line happens.
  6. I like this category. Can it be subdivided by state or region to make it more useful? I am not too clear on the subcategory part of Waymarking.
  7. These would be a list of sites where petroglyphs are available for viewing.
  8. This would be great for those of us who are history buffs or who do geneology. I would like to see it sub-categorized though by state and county (country too?) to be useful rather than just a long random list of cemeteries. There are four cemeteries found on my grandfather's land in Kansas, for example, that I would like to find the coordinates for and document in such a list. This could be a useful research tool if done by county. It would be helpful if the list contributer could include as much history about the cemetery as they could find out--date founded, oldest grave markers, any historical events associated with that cemetery, etc.
  9. I found a TB at the Four Corners cache (just sitting on it as it was very large) called Gloria Gorilla. It had been missing for well over a year and never posted into that cache (which I did to then log it out). It is now back in motion hopefully. Weird but hopeful. I have lost a couple of TBs (I am afraid) to caches--both in Grand Junction, CO, area. The same people have both of them and I counted 35 TBs that they have in their possession (that they logged anyway). One they had found the cache that TB was in in Feb but did not post it as found until March after the TB owner declared it lost. I don't understand this but guess it is a fairly common occurrence after reading these posts. I did write the finders for one of them was one of those fairly expensive National Park passport books, but I did not get a response. I still have hope that they will be dropped but will be careful dropping TBs in that area again. Anyway, I guess some people like to save the TBs or at least take them out of action apparently. If they are not moved on soon, I will just take them back virtually and put them in the TB graveyard. Question: Can I then use the copy to initiate another TB? I am thinking probably not. Thanks.
  10. I got my Dell Axim 50 to work with GPXview and GPXSonar. Not sure of the difference, but seem to prefer the GPXview. I couldn't seem to get GPXSonar to work until I figured out that I had it filtered incorrectly. Now I am concerned that having both programs take up too much memory on the PDA as I do get low memory warnings at times. Now my focus, maps-CFGPS. That is my next step!! I do love going paperless. Just did it in SanAntonio Riverwalk area and it was smooth! Thanks for all your assistance.
  11. My version is the pc2003. I will try to do this again this evening. I am just a slow learner but once I get it, I am sure it will be worth it. Thanks. Which program actually lets you formulate the pages onto the dell and then read them in the field? I am also interested in mapping the waypoints though I will still navigate on the GarminV. But my primary concern is reading those pages without all the printouts. Is this what GPSonar does? Thanks for all your help. Also I think that the Dell gives that warning for all non-Dell approved software because I got the same warning for a game I downloaded.
  12. A Dell Axim 50 arrived today so I could go paperless. I tried to sync GPSonar onto the PDA from my laptop, but it didn't load properly because it said it was for an older operating system. Now I am bummed because I just figured out how to use it on the laptop and bought this PDA mainly for caching. Anyone else have any ideas? I am fairly new to this and definitely new to this operating system so any help would be greatly appreciated. I have GSAK on the laptop which I definitely haven't mastered yet. But I mainly want to be able to read pages on the PDA for a Christmas trip. I haven't tried to load into the CF card but would think it would need a program to interpret it anyway. HELP.
