  1. Please fix the Geocache Google Earth viewer!! We really miss this, as we use it to plan our trips to find caches!!
  2. I have not had much luck with GSAK and our Tritons the couple times I have tried it. I agree - Be sure and set up your query with "have not found" checked so you only get ones you haven't already found. I also check "are active" and "I don't own" and leave everything else blank. Then I do a shortcut to get them on the GPS - I don't even load them on Vantage Point - Create your query - when it comes in unzip the .gpx file and save it somewhere such as your desktop (you can even rename it if you like - just keep the file extension the same). Then open Vantage point, plug in your GPS and get connected to VP, click on the VP logo in the top left of your computer screen, click on "Load GPX File to my GPS". Another screen will come up and ask you which file to load. Browse to the file on your desktop, and click it. It will automatically load everything right to the GPS. Then if you want, you can put it in VP the standard way too. I have found this to be the quickest way, with no hangups. Do you know how to clear all the old caches and waypoints from your GPS using the 'clear all' button in Vantage Point? I do this before loading the new gpx file. Some people say they haven't found all the caches and don't want to clear them, but if you do a new query it will have those 'Not found" on there and with the most recent logs and notes too. Good Luck and have FUN!!
  3. Hang in there DrDan!! I can't wait to go find this one!! Dustydew
  4. Can someone give us the rules for the Oregon Fire Lookout Challenge? I think I saw somewhere it is 50 lookouts? But not sure if it is so many in each area or what? Thanks!! Dustydew and Navigator Guy
  5. We're having trouble on the west coast too. Finally got the map/geocaches to come up, then tried to run two different queries and nothing has been e-mail yet (been about 40 minutes). Something must be going on?
  6. BOY! Do I feel like the village idiot! That's what I get for following 4-year old directions instead of just reading the page! THANK YOU so much!! You have no idea how frustrated I have been over this! HAHAH!
  7. Hi, I am trying to spiffy up my cache page with a new background. I have read all about how to do it, and have tried several times and it still doesn't work for me! The steps I am doing: 1- find a background gif or jpg and download to my hard drive 2- upload the image to my cache page 3- open the image and copy the www.____ location 4. open to 'edit' my cache page 5. at the beginning of the short description type in <body background="(and then paste the link)"> 6. be sure the HTML box is checked, check the two boxes at the bottom and then click submit change Not only does it not change the background, the wording is gone when I go back in to 'edit'. I have tried 3 different backgrounds - 2 jpg and one gif. Nothing works! Can someone tell what I am doing wrong?? Thanks!! Dustydew
  8. I must be missing something because I can't seem to figure this one out! I know how to add them to a cache page but not to my gallery!! HELP!!!
  9. The gpx file generated from a query is not working in Vantage Point (for the Triton GPS) this morning either. I tried it twice and it says "invalid file type". Hope this gets fixed soon.
  10. I am interested in buying the National Geographic Topo! California disks. If some had them, but does not use them anymore, and is will it sell it at a reasonable prie, please contact me.
  11. I am just a newbie to GPS and geocaching, but I got a T2000 for Christmas and love it!! We have had so much fun caching when time allows (found 61 so far) and each time the GPS took us right to the spot. Last week we went to the coast and cached in the Redwoods - even found one cache that many others could not find because "the gps was all over the place or lost satellite connection". Yes, there are a couple bugs that need worked out, but I am defiitely keeping my T2000!!! One Happy Horseback rider...
  12. I'm really new at this so bear with me... I love the coin too! How will I find out when and where it is availbe to purchase?? I am an avid horseback rider and got my GPS for that reason. Geocaching was a second thought to learn to use the GPS. Now, I can't wait for spring so I can actually RIDE to some of the geocaches and even hide a few of my own!!
  13. I am very new to GPS's and geocaching. And, I guess I don't have much to compare my Triton 2000 to since it is my very first one.... but I love it!! I have designed and downloaded a bunch of maps (seveal MB's) from Topo without a hitch... downloaded a bunch (30-40) of geocaches from geocaching.com and today, alone, I went out and found 12 caches with no problem in a couple hours. My GPS took me RIGHT to the spots. So far it does everything I would want in a GPS. I really wanted it for horseback riding in the wilderness areas and remote areas with no trails where we just go across country. The geocaching was just a bonus to learn to use the GPS, but I a hooked now! I can't wait until this spring when I can actually ride my horse to a few caches and also hide some for other trail riders too. So, I know I am in the minority... but I am definitely keeping my Triton 2000!!
  14. My current version of Vantagepoint only shows options for Meridian and GPX Exchange files. Those are the only two under import wizard. It says I have the most current version. The .loc file option along with all the others are not listed. You might try uninstalling the version of VantagePoint that you currently have and then Download a new copy from the Magellan site and install it. Just go to the Control Panel and select 'add/remove programs' to remove the old copy. Download and save the new copy, then double click it to install it. You should be able to accomplish this in less than an hour if you have a high-speed internet connection. John Thank you for all your help!! I was able to download the cache waypoint to my computer, then open it with VantagePoint (as waypoints, not geocaching), and then import it into my GPS (again, as waypoints, not in the geocaching section). Wa-la! There it was, just a half mile from my house. So, today I will attempt to go find my first cache!! I have signed up to take a GPS class in 2 weeks so hopefully all my other questions will be answered!!
  15. I went to "Find Geocache by Zip Code" I found many in my area. I clicked on the download icon on the far right of the listing and another box pops up called "Send to GPS: with a note stating "We currently support only Garmin™ GPS units. Garmin Communicator Plugin NOT detected. Download and install now I didn't go any farther since I don't have a Garmin GPS.
  16. I just got a Triton 2000 for Christmas!! My first GPS too. After a couple frustrating days trying to figuew it out, it all came together and works wonderfully (it was operator issues, not GPS issues.. ) I am a horseback trail rider, but thought it would be fun to "get my feet wet" in geocaching, so I joined this group. Now the problem... when I tried to download a couple caches in my area I got a message that "we currently only support Garmin GPS", so..... how do I download this to a Magellan?? Or can I? Thanks in advance for any help you can give me.
