i'm glad we agree on this. i would appreciate you changing it. out of interest, why do you think it's okay to put a solicitation in a cache notification but not a cache?
-
i just got my weekly cache notification - it was advertising discounted geocaching.com calendars i suggest that this message be changed to a link to donate, much like other major sites
-
GPSaxophone, if you read the latest log to the cache you see that this cache "finally motivated" the cacher to donate. that seems to be enough reason to us. if you don't like the cache, then don't log it! but let it be for other people to log. it's not doing you any harm, is it?

it's one thing to be apathetic in the face of a distaster, but it's another thing to actively stop people trying to assist. when a tragedy of this magnitude occurs, rules be damned!

Our first I! CacheMobile was an Audi, but it couldn't handle the pace. We then got the i! GeoKart, fast as lightning but very low ground clearance. Then we got the i! CacheRacer, which is ideal for track work. On occasion we've hired an MR2 and got it bogged, and we've hired the biggest fattest Mercedes we could find, called it the i! CachenWagen and got it to 200km/h on German autobahns. To the guy who was suggesting the NOTAR chopper, we tried to plant a cache with the i! GeoCopter, but we couldn't fit the SCUBA gear in! The classiest we've had was the i! CacheLimo which we hired for an unusualinterstate caching expedition! Ideology Geocaching

Here's our site: Ideology Geocaching -
I fly choppers as a hobby. We've used a Robinson 22 to survey areas before planting a cache, and also gave away a flight to the first finders of our most recent cache. We've often considered using the chopper to actually plant the cache, but we think that's a bit unfair! George Ideology Geocaching

We ran banner ads on a TV station's web site during the Sydney Olypics. Apparently it had the highest click-through rate on the show! And it got us some new cachers! Ideology Geocaching

hi jeremy we created an australian postcode listing for you. two caveats: 1. it's not as complete as a commercially available database. we merged separate postcode and lat/long listings by comparing location and state names. 2. one postcode can have many towns which have wildly different locations. we assume you have already encountered this with the other countries. we'll send it to you via email or something. regards, george Ideology Geocaching

We just completed 12 Monkeys which had a cash prize, and another team just found our i!8: GET SMART multicache where we offered the first finder a helicopter ride to see it from the air! (Many have tried, but only one team has cracked it so far!) Ideology Geocaching -

Longest your cache has sat between visits?
Ideology replied to Ramness's topic in General geocaching topics
We try to make our caches as bewildering as possible. Of our current caches: i!1: Nest has lasted 9 months without a find. (This thread prompted us to check the cache: it's fine.) i!2: Duck lasted 7 months then was logged on consecutive days! i!5: Achilles (recently reloaded) has lasted 8 months i!6: Quay (recently reloaded) went 6 months without a find until someone waded into the river during winter to find it! (Yes, it's underwater) Ideology Geocaching -
quote:Originally posted by Orange:... if putting stash numbers lead people to put more caches out that aren't significantly different than others then this would be a bad thing IMHO. If we saw a team putting in boring caches, we wouldn't bother doing them. After a while, people would recognise that caches by that team were boring and ignore them too. Pretty soon that team would lift their game or find better things to do. Over a quarter of the caches in Sydney are by the 2 Dogs, and people keep looking for them and logging nice things, so they must be okay. HoundDog and Snifter: We agree with you that it would be good to show the number of stashes. In the mean time, why not number your caches as part of their title? Granted, it only shows on that cache's page, but with the number of caches you have placed, plenty of people will see it.

Is there any chance of making the date format a little easier for we international people? For example, if something says 7/6/02, we have no idea whether that is 7 June 02 or 6 July 02. (Or in Japan, 2 June 2007!) What about using a format like "7 Jun 02" or even make the format settable in the user profiles? Thanks, George.
