  2. I believe so, I use http://sites.google.com/site/jjreds012/download.
  3. The eTrex Vista uses a microSD card. The Nuvi accepts an SD card.
  4. Yes, I've been using my method for over two years.
  5. My Garmin eTrex Vista HcX and Nuvi 350 units are suddenly no longer able to accept POI files. I’m using Garmin POI loader 2.54. I get errors that I’ve forwarded to Garmin. I get a different tech agent each time and they tend to repeat suggestions. Very frustrating. I tried 1.1 files generated w/GSAK, I tried pocket query files from geocaching.com. I also tried changing my sim cards. I tried on another computer at my network. When using GSAK generated gpx files, I get errors and a message that says to forward to Garmin tech support. I haven’t attached the message here, as it’s quite large. When using a Pocket Query gpx file from geocaching.com, the screen on my eTrex Vista shows the "Transferring Data" message. However, POI loader error message is: "There was an error communicating with your device. please make sure your device is plugged in and turned on. If errors continue to occur, you may need to restart your device." With this message, my unit is stuck on "Transferring Data". Restarting gives same error. Garmin tech support suggestions: 1: The APPLICATION.CPP error is usually caused by some type of conflict with another program. When this error occurs in POI Loader, it is typically due to a temporary conflict. Try running POI Loader again and see if you receive the same error. If you do, the best recommendation is to uninstall the software and then reinstall. This includes going into the Windows registry and deleting the POI Loader keys. Windows XP 2: In that case, the problem is most likely a corrupt POI file. I suggest redownloading the POI file and see if that corrects the problem. Where did you get your POIs from? 3: I would be happy to help you with this. The APPLICATION.CPP error is usually caused by some type of conflict with another program. In these cases, the best recommendation is to uninstall the software and then reinstall. This would include going into the Windows registry and deleting the POI LOADER keys. 4: I am sorry for the troubles. It must be the file itself that is the problem. Since we do not support GSAK I do not have good suggestions for you. I suggest you download the Geocaches one at a time from the Geocache Site instead of trying to send a query through POI Loader since technically POI's and Geocaches are not the same thing. Geocaches have additional data that the POI Loader may have trouble with. Please let us know if you have any other questions. 5: I am happy to assist you. It appears you might be getting these errors due to the information inside the files you are trying to load through PIOloader. unfortunately we cannot support these files that are created with 3rd party applications such as GSAK. I would suggest using a garmin application such as Mapsource or Basecamp to recreate these gpx files and then try to load them manually or through POIloader. Feel free to let me know if you have further questions or issues.
  6. me five~! some pqs run and some don't, but say they did.
  7. Some new info has surfaced regarding this "attack": http://latimesblogs.latimes.com/unleashed/...ntain-lion.html Hoagie vs. mountain lion: Conflicting reports, but one brave dog 2:42 PM, May 6, 2009 A Southern California dog named Hoagie was initially called a hero after he scuffled with a mountain lion in an Orange County campground Tuesday. But today authorities are questioning whether Hoagie was the hero or the aggressor in the incident, which left him injured. The black Labrador retriever mix, whose owners once rescued him from euthanasia at an animal shelter, was hiking with his human family in the Cleveland National Forest near Lake Elsinore when the fight broke out. Initial reports suggested that Hoagie intervened when the mountain lion attacked his owners, the Morse family of Wildomar. "There's no question the dog saved his life," Orange County sheriff's spokesman Jim Amormino told our colleague Sam Quinones shortly after the story broke. But today, wildlife officials are disagreeing and counter that they suspect Hoagie may have started the fight. From our sister blog, L.A. Now: "The report we got was that the dog went up to a mountain lion and the mountain lion ran away and the dog chased it and was mauled," said Harry Morse, spokesman for the California Department of Fish and Game. "We went out there and didn’t find any evidence of a mountain lion. They didn't find any tracks or hair. That's not to say it wasn’t there." Morse said the mountain lion is not being viewed as a threat to public safety and is not being sought by wardens. In cases where an animal is deemed a threat, it is hunted down and killed. "As far as we can tell, the dog went after the lion, and the lion turned around and attacked the dog," wildlife biologist Kevin Brennan of the Department of Fish and Game told L.A. Now. Falcon Campground, the site of the attack, and nearby Blue Jay Campground will both be closed until Friday to allow for mountain lion warning signs to be posted. For his part, Hoagie was rushed to the Clinton Keith Veterinary Hospital and required four hours of surgery. He's since been released to his owners' care. And whether he acted preemptively or in defense of his owners, we certainly have to give him credit for bravery! -- Lindsay Barnett
  8. It seems new PQs have priority over scheduled PQs. That seems backwards. So if you want a PQ done on time, don't schedule it. Run a new one. Of course that's gonna lead to more backlog. It's a vicious cycle.
  9. I've been getting them regularly and about 2 -3 weeks ago, problems began. They stopped showing up! There must be a problem with all us cachers not receiving our queries.
  10. My PQs aren't running either. Same thing happened last week. Week before too. What the heck?
  11. Well, it's a bummer. I'm heading out the door for a 24 hour cache hunt trip with old data on my unit. Queries never came.
  12. My PQs seem to be in limbo. My account and agreements appear up to date. Monday, I checked some of my PQs to run Tuesday and they did not. Yesterday, I checked to have them run today and they have not. PQ Faerie please wave your magic wand over our account. - cr
  13. Do we know if this was a geocaching.com cache and if so, which one? These types of misplaced caches never fail to amaze me.
  14. I began this topic to survey three questions for a report. As topics do, it's expanded and morphed into a wide-ranging discussion. The three questions: • Are you adjusting your Geocaching activities because of rising fuel prices? • What changes have you made or are planning to make? • What vehicle do you drive on your Geocache hunts?
  15. Today, 87 Octane gas is selling for from 4.33 to 4.69 here in Hemet, California. Seems like the beginning of last week, it was 3.98 at my station and by Friday it was 4.25. I was looking at Vespas. Many models require 91 Octane fuel and average 60-70 MPG. Here's an experimental Toyota Prius that's getting 100 MPG! \ http://www.rockymountainnews.com/news/2008...0-miles-gallon/ I heard today that the U.S. government is thinking of changing retail fuel sales to 1/2 gallon increments. Talk about trying to pull the wool over our eyes, or in this case, the dinosaur bones. Weren't they talking about switching to litres some years ago?
  16. Are you adjusting your Geocaching activities because of rising fuel prices? What changes have you made or are planning to make? What vehicle do you drive on your Geocache hunts? We're slowing down and keeping hunts within a 50-mile radius. We drive a 2002 Honda Civic and get an average of 30 mpg using regular unleaded fuel. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Inland (Southern California) gas prices take biggest jump in five years 10:55 AM Fri, Jun 06, 2008 Posted by: PE News A 21.1-cent increase, the largest in a week since August 2003, pushed the average price of a gallon of self-serve regular gasoline in the Inland Empire to a record $4.345, the Automobile Club of Southern California reported today. The average in Riverside and San Bernardino counties was 43 cents more than last month and $1.01 more than at this time last year. This was the ninth time in the past 10 weeks that the average hit a record high. The last time that weekly gas prices rose by more than three cents a day locally was in August 2003, when several refinery outages and an Arizona gasoline pipeline shutdown caused a major supply issue, Auto Club spokesman Jeffrey Spring said. "Oil industry analysts say that California refineries have begun producing more diesel fuel and less gasoline, creating a need to import more costly unleaded fuel from out-of-state and overseas." Spring said "there are a few rays of hope" as crude oil and California wholesale gasoline prices have dropped, and "several Midwestern and Southern states have seen slight gas price decreases in the past week." The average increased 16.6 cents from May 23-30; 3.3 cents from May 16- 23 and 3 cents from May 9-16 after falling 1.4 cents from May 2-9. Prices jumped more in Orange County (22.3 cents) and Los Angeles (22.7 cents) but still remained cheaper ($4.315 and $4.339, respectively). San Diego's increase was smaller (21 cents) but the overall price remained higher ($4.375) than the Inland area. —From news services -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
  17. Here's a Cachemate tutorial: http://www.ggaonline.org/resources/paperle.../cachemate.html and the entire Paperless Caching Tutorial: http://www.ggaonline.org/resources/paperle...ss_caching.html
  18. The Methow Finders is right. I began with the tutorial referenced. After I learned how things worked, I eventually migrated to Cachemate. I don't know if there's a tutorial for using it out there... Here's a place to start: http://www.geocacher-u.com/resources/paperless.html
  19. Time to upgrade those servers. Long past due.
  20. I've been a freelance web designer since 1996. Much of my work has been gratis, volunteer or barter. I've been actively seeking a job since January. It's not been easy. Lots of applications submitted, a handful of interviews and no offers.
  21. That happened to me recently after instaling a new screen protector. I had to recalibrate the screen in settings.
  22. Thanks, Chuy! I'll give it a try. I did the screenshot edit to jpg file. I can open them in my Palm using an image viewer. I'm using Resco Image Viewer.
