  1. I have read if you have the last dights of the GPSr serial number that the Chirp is tied to, you will be able to enter that code and manage the Chirp like having the orginal GPSr. I have not tried this as of yet.
  2. Note for the Dakota 10 users: The Dakota 10 will take the Garmin software update and it will act like it is searching for a Chirp, but the Dakota 10 does not have the wireless feature so it is a false status. A group of cachers were out looking for one of my Chirp caches and spent a considerable amount of time looking as the GPS screen stated it was searching for Chirp signal and really it was not. Garmin stated this is a bug and the Dakota 10 software will be updated to reflect this issue. Note from Garmin Tech: I'm sorry but the Dakota 10 does not have the hardware necessary to be able to find the Garmin chirp and is not compatible. The software for the Dakota 10 should be corrected very soon with a software update. The only compatible devices for the Garmin chirp that I have tested personally is the Oregon 300, Oregon 400t, Oregon 400i, Oregon 400c, Oregon 450, Oregon 450t, Oregon 550, Oregon 550t, GPSmap 62s, GPSmap 62st, GPSmap 78s, and the GPSmap 78sc. Please let us know if you need any further assistance.
  3. 1st Chirp cache placed in Illinois....GC2GWW9.
  4. I have a 500 and use some Where I GO apps such as Waypoint Averaging ect and it works fine. Never used for a cache but sure it will work as the apps I use I think would perform the same.
  5. Connect your NUVI to your computer Go to Garmin\GPX Folder Delete all files ending in GPX

    garmin nuvi

Do not need the Macro for the 500 it is already Geocache ready. I use GSAK and export the GPX file to the 500's Garmin\GPX folder.
  7. I have updated to the new software and still have the same issue on the 500. Here is one of the caches that is happens on http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_detai...c0-1add460e7fa6
  8. I have been using the NUVI 500 for awhile now and I have to say I like it except for the following things: 1.) I load the Caches from GSAK and sometimes when I go to bring one up on the NUVI 500 the GPSr will restart. 2.) Under any kind of tree cover heavy or light the 500 has a real hard time keeping up. I have used the NUVI 200W before getting the 500 and have found just over 400 caches with the NUVIs. The NUVI 200W did a better job of getting me closer to the cache than the 500 under tree cover ect. As for changing modes from On Road (Driving) to (Off Road) Walking, it is a snap with the 500 than the 200W, I really like that feature.
  9. For a gift my family gave me one of these. It is working great. Very well made and I hardly feel it when I'm carrying it. http://www.maxpedition.com/store/pc/viewPr...duct=31#details
  10. I have found a external battery pak for the Garmin Nuvi series. Enables unlimited power with AA batteries Garmin Nuvi 760 Portable AA Battery Charger http://www.gomadic.com/garmin-nuvi-760-eme...y-extender.html
  11. I have and use a NUVI 200W (Wide Screen) POI Loader 2.5.2.0 GPSr Software 3.40 GSAK 1.3.5-beta 20080217 Latest NUVI GSAK Macro v1.0 All works just swell I have a Palm PDA, but now do not refer to it to often. Thanks for the time spent on making this happen People tend to question using a NUVI for Geocaching as it is not durable, but I still do not have a reason to change to a another GPSr. This make the case even better not to change. Anyone know of a carrying case for the NUVI to increase the durability? Thanks Again OBCJY
  12. Go to the Garmin Website and download the POI Loader. After creating the GPX file from GSAK, upload this file using the POI Loader. You will then find all the Caches under Extras/Custom POI on NUVI.
  13. Not sure about the TB, but that is one ugly looking chair
  14. I'm new to this and had my doubts if this GPS (NUVI 200W) was going to work out and so far I have found 23 Caches and your correct it gets you real close to the where the cache is. I'm hoping they come out with a case for it as it is not as rugged as some of the trail type GPS's I have seen. I did try a few things like modifying some screen protectors for it and also put it in a plastic zip lock when it started raining, but so far working fine. One time I got worried as I set it down right on the snow after finding a cache and not thinking right , but no damage resulted.
  15. I also ran across this story about the Nuvi being used for Geocaching. http://www.sciuridae.co.uk/hiking_gps/geoc..._garmin_200.htm
  16. I use a Nuvi 200W I have had no major issues so far with finding the Caches. I also use GSAK, PQ and the Garmin POI Loader. I create a PQ and then export a GPX file and upload it in to the Nuvi using the POI Loader from Garmin. GSAK: For the Waypoint Name I use %drop2/%smart=20. Description I use: /%hint=120 This gives me the information I need. As I get better at this I will probaly change it around little. You can get the POI Loader at http://www8.garmin.com/products/poiloader/
