  1. Still available and still going for 10-20% above my asking price on EBay! Don't make me go to EBay with this -- take the deal! - John...
  2. See my Amazon.com GPS deals thread for details. Up until a few days ago, there were good deals on lots of Garmin units -- the full line. As of now, the lower-end units have jumped back up to normal pricing -- but there are still some decent deals on the higher end units. That thread shows them and has direct links. - John...
  3. It doesn't work for anyone -- because "hdbroker.com" isn't a valid domain name -- it isn't even registered currently. I'll add my 2c that I think people asking about what version of software is included is a NORMAL thing -- and anyone that is selling stuff that complains about people asking about the included software should be a seller to be a bit suspicious of, at least. The software is part of the value, of course! - John...
  4. That's because Boy Scouts aren't really supposed to just ask for general handouts actually. But, if you contacted any local troop, I'm sure they'd happily take one and make good use of it too. That all being said, I didn't mean that people shouldn't give to PWP if they'd like to. It's all good. - John...
  5. True -- but most of those say that they ship today and from Amazon -- which makes it much more likely to arrive on time. Heck, you can pay for next day and have it tomorrow Amazon still says... - John...
  6. Note that, from what I understand, the 3rd disc is the one protected with the funky copy protection -- which is NOT compatible with all CDROM/DVDROM drives. I'd keep talking with Magellan about this -- it should be a KNOWN issue since other companies using the same copy protection are having similar problems and have had for a while now. - John...
  7. Most of the special pricing is gone for now -- sorry to those that missed it! I'll post again if I see them drop again! For those still looking to buy, these ones either having gone back up yet or just went up a tiny bit and are still good deals: <link deleted by moderator> -- have to put it in your cart to see price. Was still $229.99 with free shipping when I just checked it. <link deleted by moderator> -- have to put it in your cart to see price. Was stll $249.99 with free shipping when I just checked it. <link deleted by moderator> -- have to put it in your cart to see price. Is now $369.99 (only $10 more than it was) with free shipping when I just checked it. So, lower-end stuff is gone, but still decent shopping on those ones. - John...
  8. I probably shouldn't say this, because it will come off wrong -- but I can't help but wonder if other organizations would be much better served by donated GPSr units. I mean, yes, PWP is a non-profit that seems to be a decent organization -- but they really don't do anything specific for low-income situations, do they? It looks like the annual fee for joining is $40 a year (maybe slightly less for some individual chapters). I mean, if you can afford to pay $40 a year to join, then you can afford a decent used GPS. I'd much rather see people donate their old GPSrs to organizations such as the Boy Scouts, Big Brothers & Big Sisters, 4-H, and so on. Of course, people are free to do what they want -- no problem in asking, I guess -- but it just doesn't seem (to me) like an organization that would be in "the most need" for donated GPSrs... - John...
  9. It would be important to not WHICH Magellan, of course. A MAP-330 at $75 is a fair deal and probably a good deal. A Magellan Pioneer at that price is probably a rip-off. heh. - John...
  10. Well, it is also available at Amazon for the same price (149.99) with free shipping -- so no tax either for most. <link deleted by moderator> -- $149.99 and free shipping. Must add it to your cart to see this lower price. Not bad at all! - John...
  11. Someone mentioned a couple good Amazon deals in the Software forum, but I figured people looking here might be more interested, so here's a quick summary that I did up with quick links: <link deleted by moderator> -- $79.99 and free shipping. <link deleted by moderator> -- $119.99 and also free shipping. <link deleted by moderator> -- have to put it in your cart to see price. Was $196.94 with free shipping when checked yesterday, but today it is sold out at Amazon and therefore comes from Etronics for $213.95 plus shipping. So, keep checking and wait for Amazon to get more in stock if you want this one. <link deleted by moderator> -- have to put it in your cart to see price. Was $229.99 with free shipping when I just checked it. <link deleted by moderator> -- have to put it in your cart to see price. Was $249.99 with free shipping when I just checked it. And for those that want to go all out... <link deleted by moderator> -- have to put it in your cart to see price. Was $359.11 with free shipping when I just checked it. Hope that helps some of you Christmas shoppers! - John... P.S. Note that if you want to go Magellan, I have a brand-new SporTrak Color for sale -- see my separate thread in this forum for details. Thanks!
  12. Indeed -- I had posted some links to good prices at Amazon on some others recently too. Guess I'll put them all here to keep them together: eTrex Yellow -- $79.99 and also free shipping. Original Legend -- $119.99 and also free shipping. Legend C -- have to put it in your cart to see price. Was $196.94 with free shipping when checked yesterday, but today it is sold out at Amazon and therefore comes from Etronics for $213.95 plus shipping. So, keep checking and wait for Amazon to get more in stock if you want this one. Vista C -- have to put it in your cart to see price. Was $229.99 with free shipping when I just checked it. Garmin GPSMap 60C -- have to put it in your cart to see price. Was $249.99 with free shipping when I just checked it. And for those that want to go all out... Garmin GPSMap 60CS -- have to put it in your cart to see price. Was $359.11 with free shipping when I just checked it. - John...
  13. I have available a brand-new, sealed SporTrak Color package available. It is in the original unopened plastic. Includes the standard items: - GPS receiver itself - User manual (english & french) - PC cable - 2 AA Energizer batteries - Wrist Strap The STColor has 32MB of built-in memory (10MB basemap and 22MB free), 3-axis compass, and a barometer. $200 shipped anywhere in the continental USA via USPS Priority Mail or UPS Ground (whichever you prefer) with insurance. Same exact thing just sold on EBay for $224 plus $10 shipping today. Another that ends in a day or so is already up to $212.50 plus $16.99 shipping right now! So, I think this is a fair deal -- I just need to move it before Christmas. Thanks! - John...
  14. Is it physically possible? Probably. Would it be legal? Not at all. Therefore, can I tell you how to do it? No, sorry. I know you are trying to keep costs low -- but that doesn't change the fact that it would still be piracy. Even if we disagree with it (as I might happen to do actually). You can complain to Next Destination in Oz, but they really, really don't care. I've heard several stories of them not caring -- such as when firmware updates have wiped out Australian Basemaps that they then want to charge significant money to replace -- even though it was them that told the person to do the firmware update in the first place. So, in summary, I disagree with how Next Destination and/or Magellan is handling basemaps for Australia -- but not enough to break the law to "protest" it, sorry. - John...
  15. Yes, but most that I have talked to said that WWBasemap was simply not a reasonable alternative to the Australian basemap. As far as Oz coverage goes, all I have heard was complaints about it. That being said, it is a lot cheaper than having a new basemap put on -- so if it would get you by, then it might be worth doing. I think you can demo it at Magellan's site -- and see what kind of data there is for the area you want. - John...
  16. Amazon's price is lower than Bass Pro's now too: Legend C -- have to put it in your cart to see price. Was $196.94 with free shipping when I just tried it! Original Legend -- $119.99 and also free shipping. - John...
  17. Some quick links for Amazon to make it easier for those interested... Legend C -- have to put it in your cart to see price. Was $196.94 with free shipping when I just tried it! Original Legend -- $119.99 and also free shipping. - John...
  18. You would have to pay. The Australian basemaps are not free and are "carefully guarded" items. You also can't just buy it -- you'd have to send it in and have it put on. The Australia Magellan place is called Next Destination. Last I heard, they wanted several hundred dollars to convert a MeriGold or other unit from NA basemap to OZ basemap. I assume it would be similar for the eXplorist line. - John...
  19. Now that that is cleared up, all we need is someone to post some laws about copying-and-pasting unattributed and likely copyrighted text. - John...
  20. Do you have a PDA already? You might be best for most of that to go with a PDA with a good navigation system and then just use the GPS to feed data to the PDA while driving. That way, you still have a nice portable GPS to take with you when you are out of the car. I've seen the Australian speed camera files for Mapopolis, I believe -- you could get that for a PDA and then choose from numerous PDAs to interface to the PDA. Just a thought. - John... P.S. You'll have to get the radar detector separately in either case. heh. - John...
  21. Amazon currently has the eXplorist 400 on sale for $279.99 (it will show $349.99 until you put it in your cart to see the lower price). Then there is the $50 rebate on it -- making the price $229.99. Normally this one doesn't qualify for Amazon's free shipping, but it does today for this sale. So, final cost on a 400 is $229.99 including shipping. Just wanted to pass that along for those looking... - John...
  22. The MAP-330 is a great unit - -I've used one for years and even one a "closest to the tee" competition with it (which had about 60 participants ranging from $20 used GPSrs to $750 "top-of-the-line" units). However, you won't find it for under $50. It's price has actually gone UP over the past year on EBay. A year ago, you could pick up MAP-330X units (which was the MAP-330 bundled with MapSend Streets and a windshield mount) for $100 brand-new. Today, a USED one of that will go for $125 on EBay and new ones for $150. Funny stuff. heh. If you don't need the basemap and you just want to get by for a bit, the 315 is a decent unit if you can find one fairly cheap. - John...
  23. It really isn't "boasting" because, as I said, you can get Pioneers on EBay for under $30 fairly regularly actually. - John...
  24. In July 2005, when I was asking Magellan about the MeriPlat and STColor units, I was told the following: "they are approaching the end of life of sales or have already reached the end of life of selling this products." Just FYI. I went and bought a STColor anyhow. Mainly because there wasn't anything else out there from Magellan that does what I need (3D compass and serial NMEA output via 9-pin serial cable). I wish the Explorist 600 did, but it doesn't. - John...
