  1. Ok -- item SOLD then. Thanks. I'll PM you now... - John...
  2. My EBay username is john_goggan. I am currently an EBay PowerSeller. - John...
  3. What about Victoria Canada? Add an extra US$5 for Canada via Global Priority. - John...
  4. Sold for $113.51 shipped ($103.51 plus $10 shipping) -- almost $40 more than the $75 shipped I was asking here. Just to note it for people still interested in "the current going rate." - John...
  5. Sold for $96.51 ($86.51 plus $10 shipped) -- over $30 more than the $65 shipped I was asking here. Just to note it for people interested in "the current going rate." - John...
  6. Remember that WAAS 35 is on the move and will continue to be in the upcoming weeks. I'd expect some odd behavior from it... - John...
  7. Just to note it -- remember that the MeriGold is now a discontinued product. Magellan's Explorist line is what they push as the replacement now. That being said, I still like the Gold -- very good unit. If you are looking to buy another, you might also consider the Platinum instead -- same as the Gold, except with a built-in electronic compass (and a couple other gadgets). This is nice for geocaching since you get proper directional information even when standing still. I use a MAP-330 for a LONG time -- just picked up a MeriPlat to replace it a few weeks ago. It's all about the compass. - John...
  8. I have the same PDA as you (the X51v). I use Mapopolis for all of my navigation. And I use GPXSonar for cache info. I run my GPX files through a coonvertor to generate a Mapopolis waypoint file -- so that they all show up (I can just tap and say "route to" and it'll try to get as close to the cache as possible as far as driving there goes). But, once I leave that car, I carry my Magellan handheld. I don't take my PDA in the woods for caching... - John...
  9. When the move is complete and the new one is in position to cover the eastern tip again -- won't almost all of 35 be pretty much duplicated coverage? Will they really even need 35 any more? I guess it is additional data, but it just seems, after the move, that it would be overkill with the others. - John...
  10. Moved to EBay due to lack of interest here. - John...

  13. Well, you could call and ask, I guess. I was just saying that if he wants $800 for a $350 unit and two $125-$150 units, then I doubt he's going to give you a good price on the MeriPlat. - John...
  14. Probably lots of choices -- I've seen some fairly decent stuff (such as Axim X50 units) go for around $150-$175 on EBay. Or, you could go with a lesser Axim for cheaper and still have plenty of power for what you'd want to do, I think. If you go with something old enough that it has a serial cradle, then you can just use a null-modem adapter to connect the GPS to the unit in the cradle. I did this and it works great -- I just bought a cheap (like $10) serial cradle for my Toshiba Genio e550G and put that in my vehicle (with velcro tape, for example). Was great to be able to just drop my PDA into the cradle when in the car and have it all "just work." When I upgraded to my Axim X51v, there were no more serial cradles -- so I had to get a special mount to be able to do that. - John...
  15. Are you only buying new then? You can get a decent used PocketPC that will run Mapopolis better than any similarly-priced Palm for the $150 fairly easily on EBay. Mapopolis, in my opinion, does not perform well at all on a low-end Palm. It's a multitasking issue that the Mapopolis people freely admit they can't do much about do to limitations of the PalmOS. I was simply stating that I wouldn't buy a Palm to use with Mapopolis. You are free to do so, of course. I was just giving my opinion. - John...
  16. If I didn't have the PDA yet and was going to buy one with plans to run Mapopolis, I'd never go with a Palm. Mapopolis simply runs better on a PocketPC. I can't recommend a Palm -- except for the very high-end stuff -- for Mapopolis. Plus, GPXSonar and other such things are PocketPC apps. If you already have a Palm, no problem. But if you are looking to buy, I wouldn't go Palm as my first choice for geocaching... - John...
  17. Well, that was part of the problem -- he really wasn't sure what he wanted. To be honest, I thought he was a guy that wanted to do a deal because he wanted to sell a bunch of GPS units at once. But when I talked to him on the phone, it didn't come off that way. Eventually, when I got a price out of him, he told me that he'd sell me the MeriPlat, 76CS, and a Vista (not the color one) for $800 total. At that point, I said thanks and got off the phone. I can buy the 3 of those any day on EBay paying shipping to three different people and still be well under that. So, he didn't seem to be making any deals -- even when selling multiple units. It wasn't worth the phone call, unfortunately. - John...
  18. I've actually barely used this unit -- I'm not that familiar with it. That being said, I believe: 1. Yes, you can navigate to waypoints as expected. 2. Yes, I believe that with the serial cable, it would communicate fine with GSAK. 3. Yes, it does NMEA output. 4. Yes, Garmin lists it as "Waterproof rated per standard IEC 529 IPX4, ultrasonically welded" See the Garmin Info Page and Garmin Spec Page for more details. - John...
  19. So -- are you looking for new or used? The GPS-48 that I mentioned I have is well under $100. I'm only asking $65 SHIPPED for it. All you'd need to do is buy the serial cable -- and you should still be under $100 total. See my post in the GPS Garage Sale forum for more info and pics. - John...
  20. I've got a used Garmin GPS-48 for sale if you're interested in a cheap unit with external antenna and serial output support. See my post in the For Sale forum for details. - John...
  21. Just thought I'd add to this to help people out since I called him... He has several units -- none are really low-end or cheap. His lowest Garmin is a Vista. He also has a Vista C and a 76CS. His Magellan is a MeriPlat. And he had a Lowrance too -- I forget which, sorry. It was all too pricey for me. If I'm going to buy several units at a time like that, I was hoping for a better deal. - John...
  22. No problem. To me, they are "worth" what they sell for on a regular basis. I agree that I am sometimes surprised at what certain older units go for -- but that doesn't make them worth any less really. As an example, the Magellan MAP-330 still often sells for more than other units with less "limitations." But, the MAP-330 was a great unit -- I've been using one for 5 years now -- and people know that and just like them. As far as this one goes, apparently, this can be interfaced fairly easily to Lowrance's fish-finders -- giving it more value to some despite any perceived "limitations." So -- again, sorry to come off harsh. I'm willing to give deals to people here and I therefore always try to offer things below the average EBay values -- but not at less than half. - John...
  23. Sorry, not taking offers, I guess. Especially offers at half of what I'm asking and under half of what they are going for on EBay. Here's what I did -- I went to EBay, found out what these were going for, and then offered it here for less with free shipping. So far, I've gotten at least two people sending low-ball offers at 1/2 or 1/3 of what I am asking. Sorry to be a bit harsh -- but this is ridiculous. If I don't get my asking price, I'll just EBay it and make more. So much for trying to offer a deal to the users here first... - John...
  24. Some pics for those that asked... Thanks! - John...
