  1. I have thought of putting out a cemetary cache as there is an old area that has a lot of history. I have done a lot of genelaogy reasearch so visited my share of cemetaries.

I also know from personal experience that the public can have a lot of opinions about what should happen in the cemetary. Your visit need not always be a sad and mournful experience. What about the things you can learn about the lives of those who have gone before us.

I think that if geocacher goes to a site and uses it as a learning tool about history and maybe unique stones and inscriptions that would be a "good thing".

Grave stones used to be a way for people to record history and show off info about their family.

I know of one tin stone in a local cemetary that was used to hide a bottle during prohibition times. I bet it was a popular grave!!!

I guess it is up to the goecacher wether he wants to set one out and get premission and also the seeker whether ot go there or not.

There is avery neat virtual In Maine that one might want to check out. a lot of history to this one... "Witch's Leg".

  2. :D

    Hello,

Well our dogs are very spoiled. I am buying a new pickup and changed the style of the interior jsut to make it better for my dogs. I have a 2500HD sierra crew cab long bed and will be getting another but will get the bench seat in the front so doggies will be more comfortable. the old truck had bucket seats with a console. hard for dogs to stand on console as they would slip off the plastic.

I never ever would allow a dog to ride on back. years ago a friend of ours had a dog jump off and break a leg. Even with a tie down a dog like mine would chew through it or scrim out of a collar. A cap on the bag can get very hot and stuffy.

Our dogs love to cache and help us sniff out the caches. sometimes we do not even look at the GPS.

I put dog toys in the caches I set out. And we even put toys for the cats. We have one cat that will go on a lease so maybe she would like to go caching also.

i guess my advice is that if the other couple tha is going wiht you like your dog, take him along and let him sit on floor or a lap. If not well pup wil have stay home. Remeber the safety issue. The crate idea sounds good but I would put tie downs on it so it would not slide or fly off in case of an accident. or if you are a wild driver :D

well have fun and if you are ever in Maine look up all the wonderful caches we have. lots of remote hiking tha I am sure you and your pup will enjoy.

    geosmiles to you

  3. Well a snow storm will not slow 3 Smart Blondes down this winter. We have 3 sleds and placed two of our caches along snowsled trails. One is even up high so it will take 4 feet of snow before covering it up.

Maine is great snow country and I invite any of you to come up here and check it out. Great x-country ski area also.

Although intended as a wise a$$ remark, it was actually true because we were flattening out a sharp curve that would add about 1000 ft to the overall Length of the road.

It's not a sport unless there is something dead in the back of the truck when you get home.

  7. SWF looking for geoguy

WELL hELLO you must be a smart person to ask for a photo of kayak and GPS that is the important things

well up here in Maine I ask for guys to show me a photo fo their snow sled . It is a long winter and need to get out and play.

so any way do you have one? and what type of kayak and GPS? I have 4 kayaks does that give me bonus points? How about a jeep for the off the road caches?

hence my name is from the name of my kayak

well I think this is a great place to meet people

    keep on caching (bless you)

Hi one minute of longitude equals a distance of anywhere between 0" to 6087' depending also on on your latitude go to grid on the www.ericcloninger.com/geocaching/grid_1deg.php

there are other links to explain lats and lons to you

remember you are moving on an elipitical sphere her!!!

  11. Hi,

well in reference to calculating distance

    remember your algebra or geometry...

take the lat difference and the long difference

so lat of pt 2 - the lat of pt 1

and the long of pt 2 -the long of pt 1

and because it is distance use the absolutute value so it is always a positive number

  12. well hey I do not foolow these directions is it a feature you have due too preminum membership?

I have sent my registration fee by mail and hope to be on soon.

I am not getting anywhere with this limiting the search I am surprised that this is not a possible limit in the search. I cannot do just a decrease in mileage as it is only 10 miles to the border and there are not many caches nearby have to have the range up to 70 miles to get much of a list.

so I will keep printing out the N.B. caches and

will go over there sometime to seek them out, but dogs need to go to vet for updated shots first, as you may know when crossing the border you must show shot records for animals.

Up here many people travel back and forth across the border on a daily basis.

thanks you for the suggestion and maybe there will be a feature added to the search engine.

    geosmiles to you

    Good luck!

Well we call ourselves "3 smart Blondes" and this is Mom and 2 daughters. so far we have set 3 caches and found 10 and a couple of sites we went to we were not successful.

We take our dogs Smokey and Freckles (female) so they sniff out some of the caches and we do not even use the GPS

what fun and we have seen some beautiful views.

    keep on caching Girls

  14. how do I do a search on the Hide and Seek page that will limit my list to jsut the cahes in Maine but near a certain zip code and or co-ordinate.

I live near the Canadian border so get the list with N.B. sites also.

I would prefer that I could just get a list of Maine sites.

    thank you
