  1. I'm from Windsor, and many of our events are attended by many of our American Geocaching friends. I too have attended many events in the Michigan area. So the idea of planning an event near an international border crossing is a great idea. I know that Windsor is a great border city, and is a strong caching community. I would definetly love to be part of the planning committee for something in the area. It would be great to have an event that moves aaround the country to showcase the variety Canada has ro offer.
  2. thanks, I would really appreciate you touching base with her. We are visiting the area the first week of July, and are hoping to get together with some local cachers.
  3. My family and I are travelling to the area at the beginning of July. We'd love to meet some fellow cachers from the area. Touch base if your interested.
  4. congrats! and welcome. I'm sure that it will be the first of many.
  5. I'd do it. Why not, we all enjoy hiking through the wooded areas, admiring large redwoods for their size and trees both in their upward reaching status and as a dead logs make great hiding spots for caches. It only makes sense that we would give back.
  6. I hope that you don't mind, but I could really use some help with mine too. Davies is our last name, 'Nisus" means and effortful adventure. It made sense at the time. But now I have no idea of how to create something to represent us. We are a family team of 4. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. If you have any questions, please just get in touch.
  7. we take our kids with us after dinner. We make an evening of it. We'll plan to go to an area that has a bunch of caches all in one area. Being that both my husband and I are both out of shape, as the weather improves, we have been going out a couple nights a week. The kids are really loving it. We make a point of showing them the 'natural' things that we come upon. Last time we were out we went to a nature trail, as we were finishing up the caching for the evening, and dusk was approaching, we were 'spooked' by a ruffling in the bushes. We discovered a pack of deer. ther must have been at least 15-20 of them. They kids were absolutely stunned. It was a great learning experience. It gave us a starting point. We then had the chance to talk about the surroundings, how they hide in the trees, what they eat etc. It was a great evening. We try to talk about that type of thing with them when were out, its a great lesson for them. And they're having fun too.
  8. WOW!!! that looks awesome.. But not for me. I'll stick to my level 3's and 4's.
  9. I absolutely agree! My husband doesn't like doing any micro's and especially nano's. So having this feature would be a great tool to use.
  10. It's absolutely worth it!!! I use the pocket queries quite often. I travel, so it allow me to find caches along a route, in my destination city etc.
  11. Congrats!!! the first few are always exciting. Have fun.
  12. I love this idea... I think I might have to do one of these in my area.
  13. Our Gps is part of the problem, its old. I realize this. It doesn't allow us to flip through to 'next closest'. we have to load each cache in individually.
  14. Were these all event caches everyone was hunting, or were you let loose to find caches in the area? I'm fairly new also and I've never been to an event, so I was wondering how it was set up. If you were given a list of caches in a 50 mile radius or were all the caches were near/on the event site. The organizing tips previously mentioned would play a bigger part if the caches are all over the place. Some people just seem to be able to find things faster. My friend has a "gift". I don't know how she does it. She's the least interested in caching of our little group, but we can search for 20 minutes while she's walking around with the baby, and then she'll walk right up and spot it. I have days when I can find everything I'm looking for, and days when I don't find a thing. I would imagine experience has a LOT to do with it. I bet this time next year new cachers will wonder how you got so many finds at the event and they didn't. yes these were caches especially for an event. They were all on a small island, with about 60, so they were packed like sardines, but it apparently didn't help.
  15. I haven't been back to find it, but heard that there were many people who couldn't find it. So the owners moved over a bit. It has since been found several times.
  16. I'll admit that we are still fairly new to geocaching and I realize that with experience comes speed. But I am really curious to know if we are doing something wrong. We attended an amazing event over the weekend on Belle Isle, Michigan. We had a great time. But my concern is that we only had 6 finds, and 2 dnf's after a full 7 hours of caching. After hearing from many other attendee's with much larger number of finds(39 finds). I guess what I am asking is are there any tips to help us maximize our # of finds? I had envisioned having 20-25 finds for the day, so the few that we found are a bit disappointing. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  17. I'm looking for a bike mount for my Magelan triton 400. I'm in Canada so someone form Canada would be great, but will pay shipping from the U.S . Thanks
  18. I received a Magellan Explorist 100 for my birthday this week. I have tried several different caches, and to my dismay haven't been able to get both coordinates to line up to where there is any caches. My kids were quite excited, but now with so many 'no finds' they're losing interest. Can anyone help with any suggestions? thanks in advance, for your help.
  19. What would shipping be to my home in Canada, postal code n8x 4e6? thanks
