  1. I have a magellan sportrack color and I am having trouble transfering waypoints to the GPS using gsak. It seems that it can't talk to the gps and gives an error of sending waypoints to com port 3 and no data is being received from the gps I am running xp pro connnected to a serial port and I have turned the firewall off in case that was interfering. I have done it before and had had trouble but I can't remember how I did it. Thanks
  2. Naval Reserve Spanish Linguist 8 years. Hubby had combo active and reserve 22 years, he puts up with the caching thing, drives us around, buys the equipment etc.
  3. hot diggity, the com port was hijacke/pirated by the pda (palm and that other one) my gps has fresh coordinates. thanks for the help
  4. might be how do I check, and would that give that kind of error?
  5. Not a Gsak error, but when I try to load my waypoints to my gps I get an error message (I also can't load maps now) error reads: error sending waypoints MAPGROTO cannot open 'com1' for write. error was permission denied how do I fix this I have been able to do it in the past (months ago) Using XPpro sp2 (error existed prior to the SP2) and a Sport track map with the new Gsak
  6. I don't think this is a Gsak error, but when I try to load my waypoints to my gps I get an error message MAPGROTO cannot open 'com1' for write. error was permission denied how do I fix this I have been able to do it in the past (months ago) Using XPpro sp2 (error existed prior to the SP2) and a Sport track map with the new Gsak

  8. Say I got a flyer from Longs Drugs Store and they wil be selling ammo boxes starting Sun for 3.99. I've never seen what kind they carry but you might want to check it out.
  9. I would definately think it was neat to if someone thought my cache was worthy of revisiting. A note would be the most appropriate online response. In fact I am getting ready to place an urban cache that is based on such a premise. The main swap items will be movies. I have a ton of VHS movies to swap.
  10. Makes me want to get a major zoom lense for the camera
  11. My Kelty backpack for hauling kids was stolen out of my car and I am trying to get it replaced. If you have outgrown yours I have several kids still of the right age to use it. I could trade for a palm based paperless caching outfit if your interested. Or just email me a cash price you would be willing to part with it for.
  12. We have six kids and I've used several backpacks. For shorter hikes with a low terrain quota a simple backpack like a Gerry might suit yourself, anything over an hour or two or rough terrain might require something more comfortable. We had a Kelty that we loved, but someone stole it out of our car. The Kelty has superb padding and comfort, but can be a bit bulky for urban stuff and everyday stuff like grocery shopping. If anyone has a Kelty that they no longer use I would be interested in purchasing it. Just email.

    Lame

Urban micros have a place, it is sometimes nice to take the older kids out to get a quick mental excercise. My older kids love the finding more than the trinkets sometimes.
  14. How do I get Dad to watch the little kids while I take the big kids caching? Don't say take the kids with you, it's mostly urban caching not conducive to letting 3 little kids run around.
  15. Just a thought, would rubbing any exposed skin with a good hand lotion prior to traipsing in PI/PO areas give any protection? Sort of like making the pores of your skin less dry and less able to soak up the Urishol oils.
  16. Sorry for that I was juggling kids at the time. I use CF for paperless caching.
  17. you can get a viking 512mb after rebate for 39.99 here a good place to get bargains is spoofee.com also a viking 1g for 70 after rebate here and these are shipped prices at buy.com
  18. This would be used for a high schooler, who doesn't need a new expensive PDA. It would be used for taking notes for class. If you have one that the battery has run down but still works hooked up to external power I would be willing to go thru the extra trouble of learning how to putt a new battery in it.
  19. Thanks southview, we are trying to learn how to use a compass in addition to the gps. So I did understand your reply. i had been wondering if it was better to change the gpsr default setting to true north. However since it is the default setting most folks use that default setting and it would probably be best to leave it alone, just as you say.
  20. Doesn't magnetic north actually shift from year to year, or am I remembering this wrong?
  21. So which one? How does each effect the results?
  22. The info has to be here but I've spent way to much time trying to figure it out. Can someone who knows this let me in on the secret. At least its a secret to me. I have a Palm IIIxe and I have GSAK. What else do I need to at least get started.
  23. We met another geocache team on our first day out, and our 2nd hunt. We just said hi exchanged user names and went on our way. Wish we had stopped and just chatted a few moments. but time was short and we didn't know the protocol. We did follow up with a quick e-mail, seems they were out of towners picking up some finds in our area.
