  1. So I'm building a cartridge and I know that some people may want to play it and unlock it on Wherigo.com, but they don't have the proper hardware to do so. The cartridge sets itself to complete and saves itself at the end (allowing for unlock upload). If I downloaded the cartridge, is that cartridge "tagged" with my account name somehow? So if anther person runs it, they can't use the file to unlock with their account? I guess what I'm asking is if I plan on letting someone borrow my PPC do they need to download the cartridge them self (with their own account) and supply it to me so that the saved file (which I will have to give them off the PPC) will work properly? Thanks
  2. Thanks. Glad to see that others are seeing this too. If hidden zones are indeed hidden in the version compiled and retrieved from the Wherigo site then it'll at least keep someone from loading it up in the emulator and automatically seeing where all your zones are. This means they'd have to go diggin' into the file to figure things out; and while some may do that, a great number won't (I hope).
  3. I've been experimenting and was wandering if anyone else is seeing this. One of the "issues" people (especially geocachers) seem to have is that when you load up a cartridge in the emulator it will display all the zones even if they are non active and invisible (will display them as either lighter blue or pink). Now I seem to have stumbled across something and would like to see if someone else can duplicate it. 1. Create a cartridge with 2 zones, one active/visible and one inactive/invisible. 2. Compile this cartridge using the builder and run it. You should "see" both zones; one dark blue, one light blue. 3. Zip up the .lua file and use the web compiler on it. When you get the returned .gwc file, load it in the emulator. Do you see the 2nd zone now? I don't when I do this. So what is different between the two compilers? Having inactive/invisible zones NOT show up in the emulator would be nice.
  4. I'm not even sure if it did before but it seems odd that after making changes to a cartridge and selecting "Close Cartridge" from the file menu that it does not prompt you to save. Also when you exit the application it always prompts for a save even if you've made no changes. The last one is not that big of a deal, but watch out for that "Close Cartridge" thing.
  5. I got the player to run on my Treo 700w (Windows Mobile 5) using a Bluetooth GPS receiver, so it can be done. However, I can say that the Wherigo player is not setup to run on square screens like the Treo.
  6. The only sort of compass I've seen on my PPC is the red arrow that points to things as you approach/leave them. I think that's all there is. As with all non-compass pointers though you do have to be moving in order for it to point in the right direction.
  7. I got it working on my iPAQ 4150 (Windows Mobile 2003) using the Garmin Mobile 10 Bluetooth GPS receiver. I also had it working on my Treo 700WX phone (Windows Mobile 5) with the same Garmin Mobile 10, but it would seem that the player is not ready to be used on square screens quite yet as I could not see the bottom portion of the screen and there was no scroll bar.
  8. Glad to see it isn't me screwing things up. I was trying all sorts of things and after about 30 minutes or so, I decided to come check out the boards. Now no more time will be wasted. Guess I'll just have to work around the issue or wait for a fix.
  9. If you're downloading .loc (location files) those do not contain the extra information. They simply contain coordinate information. To get the extra cache info you need to use .gpx files which can only be obtained via a premium membership. Using .gpx files will populate gsak with the info your looking for.
  10. If you have GSAK you might want to check out this thread over on their forums.
  11. My license plate says TNLNSLAre you kidding? I'm never quite sure. That is friggin' awesome!
  12. Yep. I got bit by the geobug right after Christmas. I can't wait 'til some of this snow and ice go away.
  13. I fully understand and agree that these things (flash, java, etc.) should not be allowed to be embedded in cache pages. Geocaching.com is not a web site host service, so these things should not be expected. However, if I wanted to make flash, java, or whatever a requirement to find a cache, can I just provide a link to my web page on the cache page? (I have my own web server ). Or is this still violating the requirement because potential cachers would need to have the flash player, or some other browser plugin installed?
  14. True that!! Being new to this whole thing, I look at the logs of a cache I might be interested in. If no has logged a find since it has snowed; I'll probably bypass it until the snow clears (I'm in a "cache rich" area, so there's plenty of hunts to be had). Man I can't wait 'til spring, I started golfing last year and this year I'm getting into Geocaching. Guess I better invest in a lot of sunscreen and bug spray
  15. Here's a quick way to get you started so you can start playing around with it: 1. Save the file to your computer (it's more than like some file like 3212006.zip. 2. Fire up GSAK and from the "file" menu select "Load GPX/LOC/ZIP File". 3. On the top of the dialog box press the folder icon on the right and point it to the file you saved in step 1. 4. Just keep everything set to defaults for now; you can play with settings later. This should load up your PQ and populate your GSAK database. Enjoy!
  16. Well I'm one of those lucky souls that received a GPS unit for Christmas and 3 days later myself, my wife and 3 kids all went on our first cache hunt. We went 3 for 3 in our finds, so we're off to a great start! I can see how this can become addictive! I love it though as it gets all 5 of us together outside doing something! Thanks for the great welcome from all the veteran cachers out there. Happy hunting.
