  1. Exactly what I'm doing/trying to do. But I get this Error message. Doesn't matter which of the 2 exporting options I use.
  2. How do I get SA to import the exported file? Either using the Topo or SA it only outputs as a .csv file, not .an1 file. I'm totally lost again. I really need to stay more active.
  3. Ok I know that I need(?) to update my software, however things aren't working as they used to. Last year I was able to export from GSAK; 1. Local HTML files for when I was not on the net. 2. Export a .an1 file to import as a draw file to use in SA 05 (I know get with the times), 2 files one without, and one with HTML tags to local file. Now I'm getting an error message: Failure reading C:\Documents and Settings\Owner\My Documents\GeoCaching\GSAK2.txt. Data record format for an address book file is: "name, address, city, state, [zip], [phone]". Fields may be delimited by comma or tab - zip and phone fields may be blank. What am I doing wrong here? DeLorme SA 2005 GSAK 6.6.4 Not going to upgrade either of these until I get this issue figured out. If it did it before it can do it again.
  4. I always assume that popping the batteries out of something with no external storage will wipe the memory. You shouldn't be storing the only copy of your geocaching database on a portable device anyway. The point that I was trying to make is that with batteries the device has an internal capacitor that will hold onto your information for a very short period of time, 2 minutes. This is usually about enough time to get the batteries changed. Many people talk about the pro's and con's of replaceable batteries. Personally if I could get a cell phone that operated on AAA I would buy it in a snap. You really don't want all of your information lost out in the middle of a hunt because your bats went dead. My M100 reloads everything when all has been lost due to bat change. However it sometimes takes awhile due to the amount of information. I literaly used half of the bat once. Older devices that have a serial cable connection can be a real PITA. Took 3 months to my moms Vx up and running on her new laptop, (no serial port). The whole serial-to-USB cable issue My dad is still using a Visor with a backup module, but he has yet to figure that out Just be leary of any device being sold with very little information, or a less than helpful seller.
  5. Be very cautious of the M line up from palm. They had MAJOR issues with the capacitor's going bad. You know that is the little thing that keeps a hold of all of your information while you change your batteries. Once it goes then kiss your information goodbye The biggest disadvantage to the palm units is that the memory is volitile. Ask lots of questions to the seller. "Does it lose ALL information when changing the batteries?" If they aren't sure, or willing to check, then walk away. If they don't know what you mean then ask them to write a memo in it, pull one of the batteries, for 1 minute, then replace. Is the memo still in thier? I really like the durability of the M series though, the plastic screen makes them pretty much bullet cache proof. I currently use a M100 for caching and it works great, win 98 -XP sp2. I use GSAK and Plucker to load cache pages. And yes my capacitor is bad Not that big of a deal since if I'm camping I have my laptop to reload everything. Local batteries are never an issue for at least a month
  6. It's time to upgrade from M$ S&T 01 to something newer. I've narrrowed it down to S&T 04 version, and Street Atlas. Which of these IYO is the better product? Ease of use for setting up routes, planning destonations, most bang for the $$$$. Any and all opinions welcome, please no flaming, I want your honest opinion. Thanks.
  7. Thnkyou All for the input, I've somehow managed to get everything working. I'm not sure what really happened, but here is what ended up happening. I switched the printer port to LPT 2, and now everything works great. If I would have known this earlier I could have saved some $$ and kept using the laptop with M$98. Shhhhhhh don't tell the Mrs. It was time for a new one anyway. Thanks again.
  8. News flash I was just showing a co-worker how he can use M$ S&T with his GPS unit. When I happened to notice that it is using COM 13. OK OK OK, so I thought that it was using #4. HS disabled. I use IR to HS the PDA. Device manager shows the adaptor as being on COM port 4 though. I've changed it to ports 1-4, still nothing. S&T continues to work after resetting the COM port every time. I'm LOST The only things showing up under Ports (COM &LPT) is Printer port (LPT 1), no printer used on this right now. When I go into the advanced it shows that 13 is still being used. I'm really lost.
  9. NO it did not come out of the back of a van. It was purchased from somebody that I work with. Long story short, she had many problems with the interface between the keyboard and chair, she knows somebody who is very tech savy, he all of the disks right now. Between him being on vacation, her next week, and myself the following week, it will be about 3 weeks before I get the disks. I was just hoping that I could get this done now. Thanks for the input
  10. Believe me I've already done this. Still not working.
  11. Nearest I can tell is COM port 4. This what I have. Mapsend cannot open any other ports 1, 2, or3. I've had both NMEA on & off, interesting with it turned on & performing a TEST on com port 4 with Mapsend, Mapsend will exit, (it has never done this on my desktop, simply a critical stop.) GSAK only gives me the option for COM 3, 4, & 13, none of them work.
  12. Well I'm about to give up I've tried just about every setting that I dare try, along with the above-mentioned tips, still nothing with EasyGPS, or MapSend Streets. MS S&T works great no problems with that. But with the other 2 programs not responding it kind of defeats the purpose.
  13. One major problem NO DISK'S. I know, I know. You would not believe how much I paid for this even if you would have been their yourself. After talking to her for awhile she finally decided to let me have for the $$$ I was offering. She said that She had the disks, just not at that time. I'm supposed to be getting them in about 2 weeks after, vacations and such. So maybe it will have to wait until then.
  14. This still relates to an earlier post about my “New-to-Me” laptop. Everything is going great, What I need help with is how do I re-register it in my name? I’ve already gone on to the manufacture's website and did their update/transfer of ownership. I changed the information within user accounts, (owner, user ID). When I look at Start, Control Panel, and System. It shows the previous owner as who it is registered to. How do I change this/update with M$? Or should I even bother with it? My thought was that if it was not registered to me it would cause some sort of conflict with other M$ products, i.e. M$ Office. The more detailed the instructions the less confusing it will be for me. Thanks for the help
  15. Thanks for the quick response. this has been working very well for me. Thanks
  16. Please direct me to this awsome piece of software. I really liked using it my other laptop, that has DIED Now I'm trying to get this new one set up
  17. Hey all, thanks for the input I've been out of town for a couple of days, unable to cache On the flight from He!! Got home around 03:30, back to work at 06:30. I'll have to give these suggestions a try, I sure hope one of them will work. Thanks all for the input
  18. Geosync, While I very much do appreciate the input , I'm still having problems. I have since this morning installed MS S&T 01, configured the GPS and all is well able to track location without any difficulty. YES NMEA is turned off (I even tried to leave it on) when trying MapSend, GSAK, & Easy GPS. I'm just out of my league here, why does it work with one program & not another? Maybe I'll have to keep the old laptop around just to be able to use my GPS.
  19. I know that this has come up before; however a search has not resolved my problem. I have a Magellan SporTrak Map, MapSend Streets, new to me laptop with no serial port, running win XP, and a serial-to-USB adaptor. I've installed all software from the disc and I still cannot get streets to recognize my GPS. When I plug in the cable everything seems right. Any help anyone can offer is appreciated.
  20. I have an older Sony Viao that only has an internal USB port on it. How can I set it up so that I can use “Easy GPS, Map Send”, and other programs with my Magellan Sport trak map? Some of the above programs only seem to look for serial 1 - 4. I think that the USB is #5. I already have the Serial – USB adapter. All suggestions welcome.

Thanks, I haven't gotten enough of go juice down yet to have made that connection.
  22. I was poking around looking at some aser stats, when I clicked on "Traditional cache" I noticed that some of the caches had a check near them, what does this indicate? What am I missing?
  23. I’m currently using a Magellan Sportrak Map with MapSend Streets (for the 300 series GPS’r). I’m curious how accurate are the maps with these units? I’ve noticed that when driving down the road that I’m way off of the road that I’m supposed to be on. However while out geocaching I’m dead on the mark. While I only have 5 caches to date I’ve always been able to find them without to much difficulty While I do anticipate some level of error with the mapping software. But I foresee this as a potential problem when trying to use it for navigation while navigating in an unfamiliar area. I.E. trying to set up a route to get me around. What would any of the experts have to recommend? Switching to another brand GPS’r is not an option.
