GPS V vs. Asphalt at 35mph

Is it REALLY this hard???
Tahoe Skier5000 replied to dzavetsky's topic in GPS technology and devices
I agree, they have no excuse to not put an expandable memory slot in the V. It makes no sense to produce such a versatile GPS and yet make it pretty limited to drivers and boaters. Besides, Garmin could have made more money anyway selling more memory cards, and cartography software if it HAD expandable memory. Why O why Garmin... ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V Using Opera 7.1 -
Yes. The last two satellite bars on the sat page are the waas satellite channels. When you are locked onto a waas satellite, the bar will turn black. When your other satellite bars appear with a "D" in them, the signals from those satellites have been corrected with the WAAS info. You'll notice shortly after locking onto waas that your EPE will jump kinda high. Give it about 5 minutes and it should drop down quite a bit. ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V Using Opera 7.1

Thats the problem with the V's... they are almost so perfect that you end up knitpicking about stupid little things... ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V Using Opera 7.1

Now if Magellan made a hand-held GPS with autorouting AND memory expansion capability, I think most of us would be all over it. Oh well.. ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V Using Opera 7.1

The Garmin V does not take data cards. It has fixed memory, and is unexpandable. ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V Using Opera 7.1

Garmin Etrex ready to chunk
Tahoe Skier5000 replied to yummykaz's topic in GPS technology and devices
It could be a variety of things: 1. Are you sure you have a 3D Lock? What kind of accuracy does the GPS give you (on the satellite page)? 2. Make sure the unit is in "Normal" mode and not Battery Saver. 3. Note that walking under foliage, or anything else dense enough to block light will also degrade your satellite reception. This will cause huge delays in update rates. From the information given, it's unlikely there is a problem with your GPS. ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V Using Opera 7.1 -
Garmin Legend – Waypoint Averaging?
Tahoe Skier5000 replied to thecarsons.org's topic in GPS technology and devices
I agree that waypoint averaging is pretty useless. Getting 13 feet accuracy is great in my book... Prime suspect has an excellent point too with the selective ability issue. ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V Using Opera 7.1 -
How's this for urban camoflage?

I can't wait for someone to put a cache behind area 51 boundary lines. It could be the ultimate 5-star difficulty cache! ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V Using Opera 7.1

Good programming there fizzy! Thanks! ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V Using Opera 7.1

They can be related to eachother in lots of ways. Everyones opinions varies on cache difficulty... I guess if the owner was kinda short and lazy about the cache description, then that could maybe kinda possibly sorta be considered a 'mean' cache hide. There's not really a rule to this though. ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V Using Opera 7.1

I seriously hate to do it, considering I just bought this thing no more than 3 weeks ago (and at a cost of $400 ), but I need to sell it and go for a Vista. The reason being is that I am starting up a Geocaching club at my school and need something a little less expensive (i.e. more "beat" worthy) to carry around on the trails. You will be getting everything with this package: the gps, dash mounting kit, owners manual, quickstart guide, pc cable, 12 volt cigarette adapter, city-select cd (all 7 regions fully unlocked), all original documentation including codes, and the original box. Now the only MINOR catch to this is with the dash mounting kit. I don't have the temporary adhesive pad anymore for it (because i used it in my car already), HOWEVER, the permanent adhesive pad is still in the kit and has not been used. As an extra, I'll throw in 4 fresh AA batteries. GPS is guaranteed to work 100% when you get it. No scratches, scuffs or bruises. Screen is entirely clear! Let me know if you are interested. BTW: I do have pictures of the entire package as well which I can send to you via email at your request. ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V Using Opera 7.1 [This message was edited by volks_ev71 on September 04, 2003 at 10:16 AM.] [This message was edited by volks_ev71 on September 04, 2003 at 10:20 AM.]

I'd go with a Venture. The clickstick is nice, along with the ability to upload points of interest, higher screen resolution, and the use of AA over AAA bateries. Not huge differences, mostly personal opinion. ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V

MapSource Metroguide USA and the Unlock Process
Tahoe Skier5000 replied to Eagle Dad's topic in GPS technology and devices
I don't think you have to unlock metroguide. ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V -
Equator has nothing to do with getting WAAS. Make sure your east and west sky are pretty clear near the horizon, i.e. no mountains or trees obstructing the view. There are two WAAS satellites, one over the west coast and one over the east. ----------------------------------------------------------- Garmin V
