  1. Man Arrested Over GPS 'Stalking' By David Teather in New York The Guardian - UK 9-6-4 A Californian man has been arrested for allegedly using global positioning system technology to stalk a former girlfriend. Ara Gabrielyan is said to have attached a mobile phone with the tracking system to the woman's car, allowing him to follow her movements. The unidentified woman said he had turned up unexpectedly while she was having coffee at a bookshop, picking up a friend from the airport, visiting her brother's grave and at dozens of other places. "This is what I would call stalking of the 21st century," said a police spokesman . Mr Gabrielyan, 32, from Glendale, is said to have phoned the woman 30 to 100 times a day after she ended their two-year relationship six months ago. She called the police and had him arrested after seeing him underneath her car, changing the phone's battery. The phone, which had a motion switch that turned on when the car moved, sent a signal to a satellite, allowing Mr Gabrielyan to track her movements on the internet. He is being held on $500,000 (£280,000) bail and faces up to six years in prison. The police spokesman said: "It was an obsession, an obsession to the point where 24-hours a day he had to know where she was, what she did, who she met and how she carried out her daily routine." 2. When I got my 60CS last spring I fired it right up and had the same issues. Eventually after using it for a week or so, it started picking up satallights much better. I think it might have something to do with creating an almanac or something. Even now it does not lock on like I want it too. What I did was to purchase a powered antena that locks on from GPS geek and now I always have a good lock. It really makes me wonder however why Garmin does not buy one of these antenna, and cut it open, and see how to make a good antanna. For over $400 they should at least have the best antenna technology. Maybe it is because the Garmin headquartes in in Kansas where there is always a clear view of the sky. How can they develop the best GPS when they never have issues like partial sky views, mountains or tree cover? Maybe Garmin should move to Colorado or Wyoming. don't get me wrong I really do love my 60CS but come on for that price, I should not have to go and buy an external antanna just to go find a Cache!
  3. All this because you were spooked by a cop???? I am an LEO and I always say if you didn't do anything wrong you don't have anything to worry about. Peace
  4. My whole Cache is based on a wierd branch formation. This one is pretty rare for a Redwood Tree. The Saluting General
  5. HA HA HA HA HA!!!!!! That was too funny!! I'm still laughing
  6. What PDA or Pocket PC will support National Geographic Topo! maps, and will communicate with the GPS and all this other stuff? Woggs1
  7. LL Bean Gore-Tex Cresta Hikers I am totally sold on these boots. They come in wide sizes for my wide feet and are extremely high quality. The price is not bad for the quality either. One pair has so far lasted me over 2 years and is just now wearing out. They also come in all leather, but are not as breathable.
  8. Strange Creature Seen in NC! Anyone seen one of these out in the woods?
  9. I just tried this and on my map page I press MENU, then SETUP MAP, but after that I see no option for MAX ZOOM. There is an option for AUTO ZOOM but the options are either on or off. BTW I have Firmware 3.20 in it. Woggs
  10. I always bring a hiking pack-seat. It is so nice to have a place to sit after a long hike, and I have found that at the Cache site you can relax and take time to read the previous logs. It might not make your load lighter but it is well worth the weight at only 22 ounces. Rei Packseat
  11. Would I have to get a serial cable for that? I would be willing to do that because I think that the Vista only has 1000 track points so it is limited. Thanks Woggs1
  12. I was playing around with my new National Geographic Topo software and I decided to post a map of my Geocache find with my log entry. Since I have a 60CS and NG Topo does not yet support it, I had to first upload the track to Mapsource with the 60CS and then download it onto my old Vista and then upload the track from my Vista to NG Topo. I emailed NG about the 60CS support and the reply said it would not be supported until this fall. I think it would be cool if more people post these maps so we can know what we are in for before we set out to some remote cache. 13. Is this for all Mapsource software including Topo?
  14. I just bought a 60CS and have been using for the last 4 days and it seems to have a problem acquiring satellites. I also have a Etrex Vista and when I used them side by side the Vista acquires the satellites right away, while my 60CS is very slow to lock on, and sometimes it I get the “poor satellite reception” message even when I have a clear view of the sky. On the Vista there will be 6 satellites with strong signal bars but at the same time on the 60CS it will only have 2 or three locked on with very weak signal bars. The main reason that I purchased the 60CS was to get better and faster reception than my Vista especially in wooded areas, but now I am very disappointed. I did email Garmin about this and I have not received a reply yet so I thought I would ask anyone here if they know what is going on. My questions are, am I doing something wrong or is that just how these units work? Is there some setting or adjustment that I am missing that will make this thing acquire satellites? Aren’t these 60CS Unit supposed to acquire and lock on much faster than the Etrex? I am thinking that I may have a defective unit or there is some magic menu page that I don’t know about that will get this thing working correctly. Any advice would be appreciated.
  15. I have the same display problem with my Vista. Everything will be fine, and then it will suddenly become blurry and have a bunch of lines running through the screen! I then go the the contrast page (it is hard to get to that page when I can't hardly see the display) and about half the time it will become clear again. I did update the firmware two days ago and it has not happened since, so I am keeping my fingers crossed. I did buy this unit less than a year ago, so I am thinking I will send it into Garmin on warrenty. Woggs1
