  1. Curious, IF he was so concerned about the effects of geocaching on lands he is in charge of, would it not have made more sense for him to take the entire container and contact you via the website requesting you archive the cache?? I mean think about. He left the same container that was originally there so didn't really clean much up). He did not contact you or GC.com requesting the listing be removed (thereby no reduction in traffic seeking to find it). So what exactly did he accomplish? Other than getting his cell number published on the internet (but that part I like )
  2. Exactly...and gets the whole family off the couch with you! My son and daughter (10 and 16) decide what and if any trades are done. The wife and I like it for the challange and the fact it is something we can all do outdoors together.
  3. Many also geocache for the challange the hunt more than the contents of the box.

The only thing I can think of is people hiding caches where a finder is likely to be eaten by a bear or in some remote spot where a finder might have to be rescued. Are national parks and national forests the same thing? Not real, but when it comes to geocaching they may as well be because they are all managed by the BLM. By the way, geocaching is NOT outright banned at NP's or NF's. BLM has set guidlines and it is up to the Park Manager to make a decision based on these guidlines. See them here Geocaching Activities on BLM Public Lands
  5. quote:I can respect the fact that people put time and money into creating the software, but, What I wouldn't respect is those people effectively stealing the novel idea of geocaching and profiting off it. quote: Interesting concept considering it is posted on a commercial site. The two I was talking about (i'll give names and not urls, how 'bout that?), Navicache and Buxleys Geocaching Waypoint, seemed to be national ideas, and i'm not sure if either are for-profit, but, they both seemed to be of a somewhat lesser quality compared to geocaching.com. To answer the question, neither are commercial. Out of pocket and donation only. Lesser quality, Buxley's pioneered the mapping search feature for Geocacing and at one point was the only source for point and click search. NC, not doing bad for a free site that started as a regional discussion board.
  6. It would be great if that were the case, but the problem with that theory is that it has been a trigger word for two years now.
  7. Can't help but wonder how many of those of you that are so damned offended by ANY religious item in a cache, eagerly wait to see if you will get that new Garmin V you've always wanted on Christmas Morning!
  8. quote:Originally posted by Cacheola Crew:Well, the regional forums on either site really do not get a lot of traffic from what I can see. I suspect that most cachers visit the sites to find and log caches but NEVER visit the various forums at all. The email list will serve as a way to quickly contact one another if we need to. For example, last April, I planned a CITO event. I posted on the regional forums and got little response. Hmmm, while I will admit we do not get the traffic in our forums (yet) as they do here, they are pretty active. Sorry to hear your CITO Event went un-noticed. Did you also list your CITO event as a cache Event? I guess it never hurts to try alternative methods to get the word out, but I wonder if those that do not visit the forums would be any more attracted to an email list?? In any case good luck, and remember that there is a Hampton Roads chat room over there on that unmentionable place. PC Medic
  9. I replied to this yesterday morning. I see a response posted several hours later is visible, but mine still is not. Mine was held up for approval all because it contained that horrible, horrible word N_a_v_i_c_a_c_h_e. So it must sit in limbo waiting to see if/when it is decided to let you see a legitimate response to your post. It was a simple question asking, with regional forums both here and there (the other site), and a Hampton Roads chat room available on the other site, did you feel there was more that could be offered by either to accomodate what you are trying to do? Well don't really think I should have to wait 24 hours for this post to be approved for such a foolish reason. I thought maybe after all this time this childishness had passed but apparently not. Appears it is time to also pull my cache listings as well and place them only where they are welcome! My appologies to those who have TB's in them but enough is enough. I suspect this message will be quickly deleted. PC Medic [This message was edited by PCMedic on July 14, 2003 at 04:35 AM.] [This message was edited by PCMedic on July 14, 2003 at 04:36 AM.]
  10. quote:Originally posted by Car37 & Shnde:I did not reread when I posted and was surprised when it did get posted because it got snagged for review. If it is not a listed geocache that will not be approved then it should be picked up and disposed with. There are a few here that I have picked up or taken over when the owners had moved and archived the cache but left it in place. If the owner/cache page cannot be found, retreive it. Let an admin know if need be or if the cache page is archived but you can get to it, post a note. And in the cases where the cache is listed on a different site/service, what then? Perhaps you have removed a cache that was actuall active!
