I didn't know cache owners were suppose to verify log books against on-line logs. I never have. I've never been worried about fraudulent on-line logs for my caches. Is this a west coast problem? icon_smile.gif

Even if I wanted to verify finds as suggested, I wouldn't be able to do so for my first cache which was stolen.

  2. I seem to recall that several months ago Jeremy indicated in the forums that although Groundspeak did get a trademark for the word geocaching, they will not pursue any legal action in regard to use of the word and that others should feel free to use the term. However, Groundspeak will aggressively seek to protect the geocaching.com logo trademark. So I believe you can use the word, but if you are going to use their logo, be sure to check out their guidelines in that regard.

It would be great if someone could markwell this. I couldn't find the previous thread after a quick check, and I'm running late for work.

Getting a read of about 20 feet for another person's posted coordinates is quite common, especially if there is some foliage. It makes finding a cache a bit more challenging.

It looks like your getting the hang of this hobby/sport/thing. Good luck.

  4. marginwa,

For the best results when setting a waypoint with a SporTrak, stay in one position and allow time for averaging. If you mark the location too quickly and don't allow enough time for averaging, you may get a fairly large Estimated Position Error (EPE). Averaging and EPE are briefly discussed on page 34 of my user manual (and possibly your manual) in regard to the Position Screen.

    Good luck,

  5. Grim, see the geocoin section of our home page. If you are interested in purchasing pre-designed coins, check out the following coins: Texas, Canada, Green Man, Joy of Geocaching, and USA. I believe that the Oregon geocoins were once available for sale. MountainMudBug gives a good tutorial on how to make polymer clay geocoins, and Big Bad Trucker offers some good pointers for wooden geonickels. (And I would be very interested in trading a Team FISUR geocoin for an Ireland geocoin if you decide to make one.) Best wishes on your upcoming wedding.

  6. My team includes 3 children, and occasionally we take 3 and leave 3 items. As long as you trade even or trade up, there should be no problem. If you follow that suggestion, there shouldn't be any complaints. (And if you ever get a complaint, tell them to contact FISUR. icon_smile.gif) Good luck. It sounds like you have your hands full.
