  1. The only reason Team FISUR (i.e., my family) is still clinging to #1 in Rhode Island is because of the archived caches. Without those, fredric from Massachusetts () would have overtaken us weeks ago. So it is of extreme importance that no changes are ever made to your stats page. Ever. In perpetuity. Or until fredic moves out of area, whichever comes first.

  2. I was recently at a cache which was a few feet from the ocean. There were shells all over the beach and a couple in the cache as well. (And these weren't pretty shells either.) Such shells would have to be lower on the continuum than golf balls, but it was amusing to think that someone who forgot to bring some trinkets came up with the idea of leaving them. icon_razz.gif Or maybe it was a geocaching joke. I don't know.

  4. Maybe I don't completely understand what you are saying. icon_confused.gif I'm paying for my Team FISUR coins on my own. There are no others who are going to "help" pay. And yes, my team (i.e., my family) will be giving them away as signature items. Are you saying I should charge my children? Now that's an idea. icon_wink.gif (Kids, get out the piggy banks!)

  6. I was surprised by Neuman's experience of not getting a reply from geocaching.com. We are in the process of getting Team FISUR geocoins which include a variation of the geocaching logo (they'll have a Rhode Island touch). We asked permission for the design from logo@Groundspeak.com, and we received permission in less than 48 hours of the request. Maybe they just don't like Texans. icon_razz.gificon_smile.gificon_biggrin.gif. Perhaps it was less complicated to provide permission since our coins will not be for sale.

  8. This weekend, Team FISUR (family of 5, the youngest being 3) took the lead in having the most finds in Rhode Island, with only 43 finds (70 total). We realized a couple of weeks ago that we were approaching the lead, and we had a lot of fun with it. We don't expect to have the lead for long, but we're having a good time keeping an eye on the "competition". (By the way, that fredic from Massachusetts has been spending WAAAAY too much time in RI lately. icon_mad.gif)

  10. For me, it's all about the hunt. I really don't care what's in the cache. However, my kids clearly get excited when they find a quality cache. Obviously others do too. That's why we try to upgrade a cache that needs a few extra items, and we keep an eye on our own cache to make sure there is something for everyone. We recently added some geocoins, and they sure went quickly.

  11. We sign all our logs as "Team FISUR" which is made up of my wife, our three children (ages 3 to 12), and myself. Out of 58 caches, the entire team has been on 56. My oldest child and I have been to every one. I've always intended to be present with at least one family member. However, when/if I pass away, I hope other geocachers wouldn't mind if Team FISUR continued with a new leader.
