  1. I had this problem too and finally resolved it last night. I had the problem in IE8 and IE9 on one computer, but no issue in FF4 on the same computer, or IE8 on another. The symptoms I had were that I would properly type in my user name and password, but I would be redirected back to the login page (if there), or the main page with the box at the top would continue to show me as a visitor. I finally found out that I had added GC.com to my list of trusted websites (must have been long ago for another reason) in IE. Once I removed it from the list of trusted sites, I was able to log in and stay logged in. :-) Seems like something in the "Trusted sites" zone of the security tab in IE tools->Internet options was preventing the logging in from sticking. Thank You Thank You Thank You! Had this same exact problem starting 5/7/11, spent much of the day today on the forums... applying suggestions Finally found your post and... PROBLEM RESOLVED Is this related to recent upgrade, or fixes on it? how odd (and how horribly frustrating) not to be able to log into the GC.com site
  2. WHAT FINALLY WORKED FOR ME: thanks to DCMG, who had the same problem: ...would properly type in user name and password, but would be redirected back to the login page (if there), or the main page with the box at the top would continue to show as a visitor. They discovered they had added GC.com to their list of trusted websites in IE. Once removed from the list of trusted sites, they were able to log in and stay logged in. "Seems like something in the "Trusted sites" zone of the security tab in IE tools->Internet options was preventing the logging in from sticking." Thanks to all for your suggestions!!

  4. Right. Did you try logging in at that point? I just logged in by clicking on your username. I had to log in to the forums, and then log on to geocaching.com. Sorry the other two routes didn't work for you. Willing to try most anything at this point... clicked on your username, got the "sorry..." page tried logging in as you suggest got the "sorry..." page again Spinning in infinity here! Caught in an endless loop...
  5. Wait, wait! It appears as if you are logging on, but it doesn't "stick" when you go to a different page on the site. Are you blocking referer, or are you perhaps using a proxy? Do you have JavaScript enabled? (Edited because cookies have been ruled out.) I run popup blocker ON, and have not had a problem logging onto GC.com before. Just in case, I turned it off, restarted. -No change Do you mean something else by "blocking referer" ? JavaScript was a little wanky. I enabled it (was running without permission) -No change Then I ran the updater from java.com to get version 6 running -No change Am I using a proxy? I don't know. How do I determine that? Thanks!
  6. Click on your username in the forum OR Go to an individual cache listing and choose "Log in to log your visit" OR Go to http://www.geocaching.com/my/ clicking on forum username results in: "Sorry. You must first log in to view this profile." clicking "Log in to log your visit" results in: "You need to be logged in to post a log for this listing." using the GC.com/my URL results in: a loop to the login screen w/ username and pswd fields. thanks for the suggestions! it's gotta work eventually -i hope?
  7. LOL Signing onto GC.com with both computers at the same time has never caused trouble before, but I figured that could be the issue here. Before posting the problem to forums, we did try having the Mr log off, --no success but thanks! ... and I'll go have some fun now
  8. I tried https://www.geocaching.com/login/default.aspx?RESETCOMPLETE=Y&redir=http%3a%2f%2fwww.geocaching.com%2faccount%2fdefault.aspx does NOT work for me
  9. I do not get an error message, just can't log in http://www.geocaching.com/ Welcome, Visitor! Sign In or Register (It's Free!) After entering username and password in the drop down menu, GC.com page shows me the same Welcome, Visitor! screen Have tried to get in many ways... Sometimes GC.com says I'm logged in, but when I try to continue, it presents the login screen again. For instance when I click on my username from forums here, I get Sorry. You must first log in to view this profile. thanks for the interest!
  10. No do not have cookies turned off I tried adding http://www.geocaching.com specifically to allow cookies restarted IE8 didn't work, still can't log in thanks for the suggestion!

VERY FRUSTRATING Using inspiron 1545 laptop, Win 7 home prem & IE8 problem started 5/7/11 I DID login and pull a PQ 5/6 now I can't get past this loop of "sign in" >> "welcome visitor" Have cleared all history, forms, cookies, restarted computer --didn't help Have tried the 64 bit IE --nope tried resetting pswd --nope "your pswd has been updated, click here to log in" then "you are logged in as curious4cache" when I click visit your account page I get the Log into Geocaching page w/ username and password fields CAN log into my bank, Waymarking, Wherigo, GC forums CAN log into GC.com using the other home computer (also wireless) CAN log into GC.com using my work computer in the back office (not wireless) but prefer not to (work is for work). Why the fuss? I like to put together PQ's / routes etc on laptop while the Mr get's familiar with the caches on the home computer Premium members should be able to log in on any computer they wish, yes? Suggestions very much welcome!!

  17. premium member, IE 7.0, Windows Vista ultimate 32 bit, service pack 1 & 2, java updated, Kaspersky 2010 scans twice a day login to geocaching.com > click My Profile > click filter out finds popup window: "Internet Explorer cannot open the internet site http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?lat=.... Operation aborted" (proper window displays if I hit refresh) Tools > Programs > manage add-ons > disabled everything > restart IE > double check addons problem seemed to go away added aimlocater class AOL LLC (isaim.dll) problem appeared again *BUT* tried to reproduce, and with all add-ons disabled, IE restarted, the popup window appeared, this time when I clicked My Profile. Is also popping up when I click "filter out finds" click page 2, click page 3, click page 4, click back to page 1 Operation aborted window! We never had this problem until the more recent website update about a month ago. Grrr, I can sympathize with the others who have this and a related problem. As premium members, we want to browse the site without the aggravation of "cannot display" messages every few clicks Help / suggestions please?
  18. premium member windows vista ultimate service pack 1& 2 installed java updated Kaspersky antivirus 2010 IE 7.0 Login to geocaching.com click "My Profile" click "filter out finds" page 1 loads fine (except once I got the red X icon window "operation aborted") click 2 for second page of caches window pop up much like the screen shots posted "Internet Explorer cannot open the Internet site http://www.geocaching.com/seek/nearest.aspx?lat=.... Operation aborted" If I click refresh icon, the 2nd page will load Read the posts here. Disabled ALL add-ons (from all the drop down boxes) restarted IE, double checked that all add-ons were disabled, caught some more, restarted IE, now all add-ons are disabled. No more problem! For a guess, I enabled the aimlocator Class / AOL LLC PROBLEM REAPPEARS I really don't have time to go thru all the add-ons and see if others seem connected to the error, but perhaps this info will be useful? Thanks for all you do!
  19. We'll be traveling to Cozumel, Belize and Costa Maya in a week. While in Cozumel, we'd like to do some caching. Garmin's base map for the Yucatan peninsula is pretty sparse. The Garmin US Topo map we've been using has us spoiled, but we hate to spend $50 for the Mexico topo when we'll only need a tiny part of it. Have looked online but can't find an affordable topo map that is loadable to our Vista Hcx. Any suggestions please?
  20. Again? Dang! We haven't had a chance to go on a geocaching jaunt in ages. Hope to go early tomorrow. Ran a new pocket query this morning to prep for the trip and still nothing in email. Membership "privledges" stink if I end up having to hand load the caches we hope to find. That's what happened last time queries got gunked up... We'll pitch in towards a new hampster to run the machine -or maybe we can upgrade to a guinea pig?
  21. Thanks guys! Didn't think I could figure this out on my own, but we got it. Gamevance.com had an exe running on my computer It actually let us uninstall it.
  22. Running windows vista with IE 7 From my account > filter out finds > right clicked on a new cache (http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=1c812e0b-0c33-4634-b29e-7b45bd719ad1) In the long description, the word 'pencil' was green and double underlined. The associated link was an advertisement for: http://college.us.com/Aff/?&source=101...y=trafficvan007 I couldn't get it to repeat the error, but when reading the forum post for how to report problems, 2 of the words were green and double underlined as well. Hmmmm Is this a geocaching issue or perhaps I have spyware/adware on my computer? TIA C4C
  23. I know I need to subtract E 98* 41.900 from 180 degrees to get the east/west antipode. I'm doing something wrong though... I've read Google articles, but can't find anything specific enough. Their examples only use degrees. I found an antipode calculator site and either my dinosaur computer can't handle it, or I'm not entering the coordinates in the proper format. It keeps giving me an error message. Any help would be appreciated, I need an education on understanding coordinates better! TIA
  24. We are currently using lithium batteries. A 12 pack from SAM's is affordable, but we're going thru them pretty quick and I hate dumping them in the landfill. Someone mentioned Rayovac hybrid rechargeables. What have you guys had success with? TIA! C4C
  25. MAN that pic turned out huge! Sorry it takes so long to load. Now that I see it so big - the stamping may be ST JH for Saint Johns River nearby. Yes???
