  1. I hope the folks expressing a desire for "hard and fast rules" realize that it will make the site *more* restrictive, not less. Be careful what you wish for and all that...
  2. Appalled? Oh dear! *accepts JC as my yadda yadda yadda*
  3. I think most folks these days like 'em.....hare-less. *rimshot*
  4. P.S. All that said, I do want to order some pre-forms and try them.
  5. Another Florida person here...I think that you could put a *submarine* in the woods, and at least ONE geocacher would close the hatch incorrectly, and the contents would get soaked. For an ammo can, all it takes is a pine needle or two around the rubber grommet to compromise the waterproofness (is that a word?).
  6. Man, I have a TOTAL peanut agenda on my next cache.
  7. What was the difficulty ratings of the ones you tried? It's easier to start out with 1's and 2's. When you get to a spot, ask yourself: where would *I* hide it? The irony of geocaching is, it really does get easier the more you do it...you start to recognize patterns and likelihoods. That initial learning curve can be somewhat steep, but stick with it and it will be very rewarding. Also: is your GPSr set to WG84 (edit: WGS84)? That is the mode that all www.geocaching.com caches are listed at. FTR, I'm a newbie too, so load up on the salt.
  8. From your lips to God's The Flying Spaghetti Monster's ear.
  9. My thoughts exactly. Some of these pictures are just...WOW!!! Amazing.
  10. When I was in the service, the joke was: "You want to support the troops? Lay down some cover fire."
  11. There is a current thread here that was talking about a puzzle cache, and in the course of things I solved it. I went to post a note saying so and saw that another geocacher had done the same thing. I have placed 3 caches, all of them puzzles. I like dreaming them up, and I like solving them. I have had a couple of local cachers post notes saying they had solved puzzle caches of mine, which to me is almost as good as finding the thing (but not quite *wink*). I reckon they will get around to finding them at some point. Is it considered good form to post a "solved-it" note to a puzzle cache that in all likelihood you will never "find" ? I think I would be pretty flattered if a long-distance cacher solved one of my puzzle caches, but I'd like to know the accepted protocol. To clarify: not posting a "Found It!" just a note.
  12. Me, too. I also noted our relative distance(s) to the cache location...I'm like 450 miles closer than you, w0o+!!!
  13. I'm placing one tomorrow...I'm gonna call it that.
  14. Some of the conclusions being drawn here are...unusual. For instance, I doubt I could get a cache listed that had pictures of nekkid wimmins on it, but I wouldn't take that to mean that the various reviewers, TPTB, lackies, etc. *necessarily* dislike pictures of nekkid wimmins...just there are other sites for that.
  15. "Florida Style" would probably be a camo'ed 35mm film container hidden in the old frond bases of a sabal palm.
  16. It's pretty ironic that I've seen more agenda and digs and promos IN THIS THREAD than could ever have possibly been gleaned from the original cache description.
  17. I just wanted to note that your log to the cache was very classy. *thumbsup*
  18. I wish more people would (dispassionately) read Keystone's replies, all of which are spot-on, consistent, and reasonable. FTR, I have no problem with the cache as originally listed. Their rules, though. Also FTR, I am a non-religious 8-year USAF veteran with no desire to join either the AL or the VFW (although I'm eligible for both).
