  1. The clan and I are fairly new to caching and we would like to get a first to find. What is the best way to discover a cache first? Do you create a special type of pocket querie? Do you look online 30 times a day? Any advice would be appreciated.
  2. My mother in law has asked me to set up some geocaches specifically for our family reunion happening next month, and I would like to make some game out of it for the participants. Does anyone have any ideas on how I could do this, or some game suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
  3. We got our first cache today, it was fun but cold. As soon as the snow melts, we're heading out for more.
  4. The only version of CacheMate that recognizes a Palm PDB file is the one for Palm OS. The Windows Mobile versions import GPX files directly, or you can use the CMConvertWM program (not CMConvert) to pre-process that into a CWF file and use the included plugin to import it. Thanks! It took some trial and error, (finding what directory to place the file in) but I finally got it to work. This is very cool. Thank you for the help.
  5. I am also having problems getting my .gpx file, which I createdin gsak, to be recognized by Cachemate. I have downloaded the cachemate converter and exported the resulting pdb file onto my blackjack, but I cant open the file directly on my phone. When I do, it says the file is corrupted. Nor can I figure out how to get Cachemate to even look for the file. ANy ideas?
  6. I just got my etrex vista hcx and am trying to send it waypoints that i placed in gsak. it is telling me that it can not perform, with a error sending waypoints: magproto read error? what am i doing wrong? EDIT: I hadn't set up my GPSr in GSAK. This stuff is complicated....
  7. Thanjs for the replies, it's been some help. Is there any way I can add the notes/additional hints to the notes, or is that what I should use my SmartPhone for?
  8. My family and I have been wanting to try geocaching for a while and we just received a eTrex Vista HCX for Christmas. Actually we got a Nuvi 200w, but I returned it and will be getting the other one soon. I have been reading the forums, and maybe I am just looking in the wrong place, but I cant find answers for some of my questions and am hoping y'all might be able to help 1) If I want to create/download/access custom POI lists for caches, do I need extra software? What kind? 2) Can I use my Windows mobile Smartphone for paperless caching? How? 3) Will the vista give me audible alerts if we near a cache marked as a POI? 4) Why do the maps cost so freaking much? I am hoping that my family and I will really get into this whole geocaching thing, and I am also hoping that y'all can help answer my questions before I go insane. Please help. Thanks
