  1. What is the best method for downloading caches to my Garmin GPS from my Mac. I have the current OSX. I have tried downloading the driver from Garmin with no luck. Is there a third party app that anyone uses/knows of? Thanks in advance!
  2. Hey, OP, I must have had you in mind when I created this one: http://www.geocaching.com/seek/cache_details.aspx?guid=9649ff63-38b1-4a9b-88e5-3e501663d0c9 DZ
  3. 8. Don't! 9 Don't! 10. Have the CO's approval beforehand.
  4. (Sorry if this in the wrong forum - if so, could a mod please move) I've had the iPhone app from Geocaching for a couple of years now and it's been working fine. Suddenly yesterday, it stopped. When I search for new caches it reads "No caches found". I've done everything I can think of - any suggestions? Thanks
  5. Of course I will. I've created two and completed one. I participate in geocaching and related activities to have fun. If a challenge is fun (and location based) I'll be happy to to it.
  6. I sent you an email request. BTW, I really like your photos!
  7. Is it still enabled? If so, where do I find the button. Thanks, DZ
  8. I love the new maps. They show a lot of trails that don't show up on the old ones. I'm confident that once it's out of beta mode, all the gliches will be fixed.
  9. The background box for URLs will only hold a URL of a certain length. Too long and it will cut off part of the address. When selecting one from the web make sure the last few characters make it on (in?) the box. If it's too long you can either upload it to an online photo site (Flickr, etc) or make the URL smaller by visiting TinyURL.com.
  10. There is an area near me that I would love to put a traditional cache in but it has an old virtual in the center of it. Would that prevent me from putting out a cache within 528 feet of it? Thanks for your answers in advance, DZ
  11. There was a very cute one in my area that used a YouTube video for clues. It's sadly archived but it's good idea and entertaining to boot. Kitty Is A Bad Mystic. (GC22CP3)
  12. I can't help you with the thread but this might be of interest.
  13. Yep that's it. It happens to me occasionally. Some time the board times you out but shows you are still logged in.
  14. I can't help but notice the irony of your complaining about cache placements but you yourself have placed none at all. There are placements for all level of participants. Not everyone can do long or hard hikes. Nor does everyone want to. We have not lost our way - we've expanded to be inclusive not exclusive. Geocaching didn't start with a mandate. It started organically and it remains so. Like DragonsWest suggested, point your map in a better direction and enjoy the ones you prefer. Simple.
  15. I use enamel then hit it with a shot of clear sealer when it's dry.
  16. I really like this idea. I think I'll use it if you don't mind.
  17. Depends on how easily you want it to be found. Trust me, hide it and they will find it. But I hide caches to be found so I make them big enough to be easily seen from the ground. There is no need to say it's hanging in the description, IMO. Maybe something in the cache name to tip them off.
  18. I've used it to make caches. It's east to use and I have not had one fail yet.
  19. This is what I did with Lester Moore. This why I put the little cross near the area. If you find that it's easy. But standing at the cache GZ it's pretty hard to see. I used something like this (but at half the price). The OD green is practically invisible.
  20. I have two that people seem to enjoy. On Lester Moore I used a cheap dark green cord (see cache page photos) that I found at the local outdoor store. It blends in very well. Also, as people tend not to look up I used large-ish type containers - no need to go micro. Lester Moore Hang 'Em High - 2
  21. Top right corner of your post, click Options > Display Modes > click Standard. Thanks, I have no idea how I changed that.
  22. An example, I have a cache 'Thunder Rolls' (GC2K879) that I'm not getting notifications on. I've tried everything I could think of but can't fix this. I've even posted a test smiley to be sure - and I didn't get the notification. To help with the elimination, I've tried the following: Checked that I'm viewing the right email addy. Made sure the appropriate boxes were checked in the Instant Notification Service form. Any help appreciated. Also (non-related) when I read the forums, responses to the OP are truncated (screen capture). Is this new or have I inadvertently changed the way I view the forum responses. Again, help please.
  23. I did it recently. IIRC, add the new one and then it will give you the option to choose it as it the primary.
  24. Not a reviewer but I'll share my experiences with you. There have two occasions where I have submitted caches for review that were blocked by a previous (but unpublished) cache submission. The reviewer explained he would give the other cacher a couple of weeks to finish their submission. In one case the other cache was eventually published. In the other case I contacted the reviewer after the allotted time. The reviewer archived the other cache and published mine. In another instance I had created a cache but did not check the "this cache is active" box. For forgotten reasons, I let this cache sit this way for a while. After a time I was contacted concerning my intentions as I was blocking another cache. So I'm guessing you do get first crack at an area if you have a 'lower' GC#. Regarding changing posted coordinates I assume you only have the area locked as they are posted. BTW, any caches of mine that get turned down (such as being blocked by a puzzle final, for example) get their coords changed to the middle of the ocean so I can 'recycle' the cache page rather than archive it. Agreed.
