  1. What model is the Etrex Legend? and what model is the Vista and is it still available?
  2. I will be using it on a hand held, either a 60CSX or a VistaHCS. So these on beep if I'm reading correct?
  3. Just a quick question. Does City Navagator from Garmin use voice commands or does it just beep when you are comming up to a turn,or point of intrest? Thanks, Brad
  4. With most Garmins you get a base map that comes with the unit. Is that software good and will it get you to the cache. And how much detail does the software have. I would just like to put more money into the GPS unit and get the mapping software latter. Thank you, Brad
  5. Hi, Looking for a GPS unit to buy to start caching. Wife and me just need something to give it a try to see if we want to get into it. all help would be apreciated Thank you. Brad
  6. I see if I copy the cordinates into Gogle earth it will give me directions from my home to with in a block of the cache, so than can't I use my GPS to get to the cache? With the Etrex H can you manual enter cordinates with the butons and then save it?
  7. But in driving to the cache area does the etrexh show you when to turn on roads so you can get to the area of the cache? Sorry for stupid questions. just not sure how it would work in the car?
  8. I want to try geocaching, but as most have limited funds. If I get the eTrex H can I use it for geocaching? I dont see how you could with out a mapping one. Help
  9. Is it ok to buy a GPS on ebay, anyone have any problems. What should a person look out for? Thanks
  10. Yes, indeed you can (to both questions). It is a great basic machine. You can enter co-ordinates manually or download them from your computer (although you need to buy an extra cable as none is supplied with this basic model). Note that the connection is to an older style serial port (not USB). You may find that you start by entering co-ords manually but, when you want to go out on a serious caching mission, downloading a stack of co-ords saves stacks of time! Thank you for the reply Brad
  11. Is it possible to to use the famous YELLOW etrex H to find geocaches, and can you enter cordanates manualy ?
  12. Thank you all for the comments, it seem there is so much to this and so many things to decide about. Thanks again, Brad
  13. I been reading here for about a month now. And need to make a choice, truthfuly is there any difference between the Garmin e trex Vista HCX and the Garmin 60 CSX ? I have been to Gander and held both and as far as size carrying either no problem, the screen on the 60 CSX is a tad bigger (but does that much matter?) I will ge using it for Hunting/Hikeing/ Driving directions and Geocaching. The extra price of about 100.00 for the 60 CSX could get the the city navagator map for the Vista HCX. So with all that said, does the 60 CSX do any thing else that the Vista HCX cant do. Please help LOST IN THE WOODS Brad
  14. I'm looking at buying the Vista HCX or the 60 CSX still not sure which one, It would be used for Auto routing in a car, and hunting/ hiking Thanks
  15. Thanks for the quick reply I guess like you saud I need to go to a store and touch & feel them
  16. If you use your GPS to auto route you (driving) and use it for hiking/hunting. Would it be better to buy the Vista HCX or the 60 CSX, dont worry about price, just after a good gps to last for awhile Thank you for the help, Brad
  17. Is it hard to do the up grade 2.60, I looking at buying a new vista HCX in a week or two On e-bay?
  18. Can someone tell me the difference between using a SD card map for City navagator or using the CD for City navagator? Can you load the whole City navagator map on your GPS?
  19. ergomaniac Could you keep us up dated on that wash out. I'm wanting to buy the e-trex Vista HCX by next week, I really would like to make sure the update works fine before I buy the Vista instead of the 60 CSX just for the savings to put towards maps. Thanks to all for the input here, Brad
  20. Brad I went back and read this - and please excuse me if I am wrong but it looks like the first post said that the 2.50 version didn't fix "Software version - 2.50 GPS Software Version - 2.60" and that those were a couple weeks old. The newer version of the software just came out and that poster said their versions were "Software Version - 2.60 GPS Software Version - 2.60" So I am guessing that this new software update made some difference to the second poster. kraushad, It seems that someone in the last post just did the up date and still has the problem!! Oh no what to buy, I really LOST and can't find my way on what to buy..
  21. So both Legend and the Vista have that washed out look, Is it better to just go to the 60 CSX and not have the problem?? Brad
  22. So someone tell me did it fix the screen problem. I thought some where in this post someone up graded to the 2.60 and it didn't help. I'm just looking at buying by next week either the e-trex Legend HCX (so I don't have the screen problem) or the e-trex Vista HCX. So I hope we can decide if the 2.60 up date really does fix the problem. I hope we get some new post here. Thanks,
  23. I found this today I hope this helps all of you, also on page 4 of the manual HCX it tell you to do the same thing. Pleaselet me know if it's true I'm looking at buying the HCX or the 60 CSX. Describe a "washed out screen". When I first power on my HCx in Massachusetts, the screen is relatively dark. After it's on, I tap the power button once and then toggle the joystick up so that the screen is set to its highest brightness. Always works great. I have yet to have to power down and then back on again. A few weeks ago when I was logging power poles, it was 2 degrees F and it performed like the champ that it is. Thanks, Brad PS I need all the help I can get
  24. Hi, I been reading post for about a month on which units to buy. I'm lookingat the Vista HCH or the 60 CSX. In the past when buying things I alwaysbought the least expensive thing it would work. Well as I grew (older) I found it was better to spend the money up and get what you wanted and be happy. I will be using the unit for a Hunting gps ( I get lost in the woods easy) I also need it for road navagation to get to new hunting spots and places arround town. I also will get into Geocaching also. So I will need one to to both. Price is not a issue here becauseI found it better to spend it up front and get what you want. I found a thread about the grey screen in the Vista on startup when cold that bothers me, but I found this on that problem. "Describe a "washed out screen". When I first power on my HCx in Massachusetts, the screen is relatively dark. After it's on, I tap the power button once and then toggle the joystick up so that the screen is set to its highest brightness. Always works great. I have yet to have to power down and then back on again. A few weeks ago when I was logging power poles, it was 2 degrees F and it performed like the champ that it is." Well enough said any advise would really help thank you. Brad
  25. I have been reading for months about which. I know here goes another newbie with the question " What gps to buy question" but all joking aside, what is the best? I will be using it mainly for 2 things. #1. I do alot of hunting and need to be able to get from point to point, make way points and feel safe to go get lost in the woods and not worry about getting back to my truck (even though my wife so day wishes I didn't come back) #2 I also need to be able to get and find the best way to get to these places so I will need mapping also. So I looking at Garmins GPS MAP 60csx and the E Trex Vista hcx. Now I would even look at others if needed. I would like a SD card slot to be able to store a good Topo map and a good street map. I will spend up to $500.00 if needed to have a good unit. Any and all help would be very help full Happy Holidays to all Brad
