  1. As someone who asked this question recently....and just finished doing iton both my Venture Cx and Vista HCx, I can tell youhow I accomplished it.... Gently remove the rubber band from the unit... try NOT to stretch it when removing.... Remove the adhesive from both the unit and rubber ring... For this I used Goo Gone- worked quick and cleaned it completely. Let it dry..... Next I roughed up the rubber a little with 400 grit sandpaper. This will help with the adhesive adhersion. AVOID the pips for the button controls. Wipe clean when done.... To get my ring adhered back on... I used DAP Household Adhesive sealant (recommended in the threads) which is 100% silicone. I used Q-tips and carefully applied it to the ring again AVOIDING the button pips. Once I had the sealant on, I carefully returned the rubber ring to the unit. Next, I put in two batteries and then started to take rubberbands and put them around the unit holding the rubber ring snuggly against the unit. After everything was in place, I turned on theunit and tried all thebuttons to makesure they worked and that the pips were in the right place...adjust if needed. Odd but true... I took both units andput them on the dash in my van.... and left them there. They both sat and baked in my van all day while I was at work... curing the silicone. after work and a drive home, I removed all of the rubberbands... and VIOLA! The rings are now nice, tight, and snug... and much better then when they slipped and slid all over the place. I had to trim and clean a little excess sealant off... but not a major issue. and so....that's how I fixed them... Hope that helps.... Cujo
  2. Probably a dumb question.... but anyway.... Does the Map Detail settings in Mapsource have any effects on maps when sent to your GPS? I only ask cause it would seem that maps I used before are acting a bit funky of late. Can you clear all the maps in Vista HCx and re-load all... or do you simply write over? Thanks for you insight... (always learning new stuff) Cujo31
  3. I have a bunch of those and have been putting them in the lil baggies with a slip of paper with a link to my site....not sure how they will be received....but thought it something fun to try.... 1. It is NOT a trackable so no love-loss on my part if they go MIA 2. It is mostly my doubles and so forth... so not really out anything... Here we seemto have a few that like to muggle and "collect" trackables... I have already lost a few.... so this is kinda a fun thing to leave that won't upset me if it disappears... Cujo
  4. Ok....maybe the first one was.... but after that....ugh... ************ever feel like you have put your foot in your mouth before you even start**************
  5. I have always been a long time gaming fan... from Mechwarrior to LOTR to Pirates of the Caribbean (NO not that Johnny Depp crap!). I have collected a lot of gaming stuff over the years... figures, instruction booklets, dice and so on. So I have decided to clean house and rid myself of some of the things that have been laying around for a long time. In 2004, I was introduced to the LOTR Click game from Sabertooth Games. At the height of the LOTR movie craze, this game was very popular and brought together all the familiar characters of Middle Earth. Four years later, the gaming company fell on hard times and went defunct. The game itself is a VERY easy to learn game and some of us still get together to play from time to time. So what you say? Well I have decided to take all of my extra figures and make them available thru the caches I visit. Leaving figures here and there that can be collected if you so choose. Are they trackable? Nope. Are they valuable? Not really. But if you are a fan of the LOTR series, they might interest you... and I would love to see where they turn up at next. So how do I find them if they are not trackables? Simple... have a look at my profile on Geocaching.com. Look for Cujo31 and see where I have been. Perhaps you will find some of my little friends still there. Take them... Enjoy them as I have.... Send me a picture... send me a story... anything you wish. It's just a fun way for me to share some of my love of gaming with others. Need a map for the game or a rule sheet or even some dice? Send me a e-mail and tell me what figure you found....and I'll be happy to send you a link to the maps and rule sheets online. At some point I will also hide the dice too XP Have fun and enjoy the hunt.... be wary of the Ents.... **************Just my idea for a fun little hide********************** Whatya think? 6. LOL.... I have a Garmin Venture Cx and a Venture HCx I like them both.... but it is "old" tech compared to what others here use.... I also use a Palm Treo 650 with Cachemate to do paperless caching... Cujo31
  7. Spent time tonight cleaning everything with Goo Be Gone.... Cleaned up nice.... rubbed with a lil sandpaper.... And hit it with the silicon.... Was very careful around the buttons... used a Q-tip. Wrapped with rubberbands.... and let it set over night. Much nicer now.... thanks to all those who helped out... Cujo31
  8. No worries Andy... It was a complete bone-head on my part... I should have done that first and was just not thinking... the answer is common sense... guess I was just more or else concerned about button function after repairing it... Cujo
  9. Sorry.....your right... I probably should have done a search....but was dealing with multiple mishaps here today and just posted the question... since I was in a time crunch... I'll make sure not to trouble you scholars with my "simple" questions again without a search first.... jeez... anyway.... Cujo
  10. Hey gang, Repair question for all of you.... I just got my (new to me) Venture HCx and still have my older Cx. One, thing I have noticed is that through normal handling etc... and maybe a lil moisture... is that the rubber ring that runs around the unit and covers the buttons is becoming loose... and sliding a lil. What can be done about this? Super glue? How does one reattach this without running the risk of damaging the button fuctions? Let me know.... the HCX is a great new addition! Cujo31
  11. Hey Gang... Not sure what area this should be in and feel free to move it if I am in the wrong place... I have a question about maps.... I have been using Mapsource with Metroguide for some time.... Along with Metrowizz to allow me to autoroute on my Venture Cx I was out looking today at free maps etc. http://www.gpsfiledepot.com/ Now i have two questions... 1. Is the Ibycus USA Map (last updated 2009) any better then the standard Metroguide maps? 2. It seems when I use Metrowizz to upload maps to my Venture... that it erases the maps present and only writes the filesbeing uploaded... Can I upload both maps to my GPS? I know....this is probably all newb crap that all of you have dealt with a 100 times in the last few years... but I must admit that I do not know EVERYTHING about il eTrex. So it's easier to just feel dumb and ask Thanks for reading and replying..... Cujo31
  12. Well sometimes its just odd luck.... Went caching Saturday and got into a wee bit of poison Ivy... Never saw it....but it saw me So anyway, been home dealing with a swollen shut eye and was just reading here and doing work and stumbled across a deal on lightly used Garmin Vista HCx for $100. Called about it and seemed the lady's husband used it for hunting one year and decided to go a different unit so she just wanted it out of the way.... New (to me anyway) unit is on its way.... should have it in a week or so Not too shabby... and way cheaper than anything else I found.... Cujo
  13. Wow....almost funny.... ....almost The link I was trying to find was here: http://gpstracklog.com/compare/garmin-hand...omparison-chart
  14. there was a link in a post that I thought was in the "What GPS should I buy?" thread that went to list of all the Garmin products with a listing of the features they had and side by side comparison... Contained the eTrex series as well as Oregon, Coloroda, Dakota if I remember right... Anyone know what I am talking about and have that link? Thanks Cujo

    My First TB

Ok.....yes...I know this is a VERY old post.... but she has been sitting that long... while I was busy with work and other hobbies.... Now I am back and working on getting back up to speed in the hobby.... It was my intent to make this the first TB in my first hidden cache.... but I am thinking now of just letting her fly solo.... Got a few other ideas in the hopper too... Will post pics when I get to it Cujo
  16. I wondered about that... I like the styling of the Colorado overt he other two... I have horrible luck with any elecronics with TS.... Funny for a discontinued price eBay still wants premium prices for them.... Given what I know of my meager budget....this would probably be my best route....at the moment. I am already familiar with this line thru my Venture... and it would be a slight move up until I can afford to take much larger step. Thanks guys! I'll keep you posted n what I find. Cujo
  17. Try this: http://forum.delorme.com/viewtopic.php?p=1...bb8ae22c44044d2
  18. So would I be pretty safe replacing it with say any of the Dakota, Colorado, or Oregon variations?
  19. you could also do what I did... though it has been a while and I don't remember the steps... But I purchased a eTrex Cx and used a hack I found online to make it do turn-by-turn navigation... don't ask me to explain how I did this... like I said it's been a while... but I did it... and I use my Venture all the time to travel with and do driving... and yes I use it for caching too... Just a thought if your a techno geek who doesn't mind a alternate idea Cujo
  20. Hey gang.... Some questions for you all... 1. I live in the Midwest and have been using my Garmin eTrex Venture Cx for about a year 1/2 now....and don't get me wrong...it's been a nice lil starter GPS.... but I am finding that anytime I get into any kinda leaf cover or in wooded areas... it is like being lost in the Bermuda triangle. So is this just a part of having a GPS or is it specific with this particular model? 2. I am noticing a very disturbing trend in the area near me that nothing trackable ever stays in caches. I have probably 15 caches local to me that are supposed to have items that have just been taken or lost. Is this becoming a problem everywhere? I have a couple trackable items I would like to put out... but no I worry they will just go poof! 3. If I wanted to move up from my Garmin eTrex Venture Cx to a better GPS... what you recommend? What is the next step up? I know it's not going to take me right to it everytime... but I would at least like to get closer than i have ben I really appreciate all the help and thank you for reading and helpingout Cujo in Wisconsin

    My First TB

BTW.... Here is a copy of the stencil I had cut to use on the side of the ammo can box I am using for this cache... I will be using the more modern digital style camo on the box and then doing a greyish black "ghosting" of this logo on the sides... and the regular GEOCACHE logo on the lid.... I'll post pics when I get that done too Matt Think I am having WAY too much fun with this first cache????

    My First TB

You are of course correct.... but I teach Engineering....not English My goof! Mission tag is laminated and has a hole... I shortened the ball chain and will fasten the card to the TB and both will go inside a black Ziplock bag. Hopefully that will keep them together. I am trying to find other lil trnkets that would be appropriate for this cache So far TB and a cool lil Military med kit All good off world travelers need a med kit Cujo

    My First TB

roaming.... the mission tag is laid out similar to a trading card... the red letters in the lower right says "Cujo31" which is my screenname since I created the TB.... Also on the card you will find a shield with the number 1 .... for my first TB also 01.19.08 ... the date I created and registered the TB I have 2 other TB's similar to this (different vehicles) that have similar tags with different info on them.... I am just a photoshop junky Thanks for the compliments guys! Cujo
  24. Thanks Chuy! ....and is that the Iron Giant? Loved that movie Matt
  25. Bronco... I get what you are saying.... I went out and did some searching and I found a program: http://www.geodude.nl/gps/modules/smartsec...em.php?itemid=3 Metrowizz I don't have City Navigator.... I only have Metroguide and Topo... This program allowed me to convert the Metroguide data over to be autorouting on my GPS (Venture CX). I deleted all my routes (all 2 of them ) Reloaded my maps thru Metrowizz.... Re-transferred the route I was trying to do before.... and.... There it was Anyone else use this method? Whatya think of it? Matt
