  1. Thanks for your responses, y'all!! I sent each of you an email telling you a bit more about the details, so if you didn't get that and you're still interested in this "picture-cache" just post here and let me know. Thank you again - New York 'cachers rock ------------------------------------------------ "Is it peas?" - Ellen
  2. Hi! First, thanks for taking a look at my request Second, here it is. I'm sure a lot of you are familiar with the River Cafe, on Water Street under the Brooklyn Bridge on the Brooklyn side. Well, besides having a great wine list and some extremely cool desserts, they have this awesome patio from which you can see the Statue of Liberty and a bunch of other stuff, and there's a certain picture from that point which I desperately want. However, I won't be able to get back to NY for at least several months, and I'd really like to have it before then. So here's the deal: if you're willing to go on a kind of photographic cache, I'll send you a drawing which shows exactly what perspective picture I'm looking for and enough money for a subway ride, a regular roll of film and developing, and a couple of drinks at the bar. Just like a regular cache, almost all of the fun here is in discovering the place (right? ) and believe me, if you've not already been to the River Cafe I think you'll like it. Plus, of course, you'll have my undying gratitude and the promise of pictures from Florida if you need them... Thanks for your time!! Edit: Duh, probably should have mentioned that you can let me know you might be interested in this pseudo-cache either by posting here or by emailing to the address reached at my profile... thanks! ------------------------------------------------ "Is it peas?" - Ellen
  3. There's Jake. I knew I had a picture of him somewhere. He's my younger sister's best friend first, but after that he's an awfully good pal to both me and Harvey. ------------------------------------------------ "Is it peas?" - Ellen
  4. And I love this thread. ------------------------------------------------ "Is it peas?" - Ellen
  5. Okay, I'll give it a shot - everybody likes wolfies (right? RIGHT?!), and this particular picture has been with me for a long time. This is pretty darn cool of you, Diablo! ------------------------------------------------ "Is it peas?" - Ellen
  6. Ooh, yeah, I forgot about the walking stick (probably because I don't carry it in the LBE, of course - it's in the bed of my truck.) But it's UNBELIEVABLY useful, especially in Florida, where the wildlife you encounter pulling caches from under logs is as likely to be of the two-fanged variety as anything else.... ------------------------------------------------ "Is it peas?" - Ellen
  7. Hi, Riverwind! First of all, I want to say that even though I've only been doing this for a couple of weeks, I am thoroughly addicted, and I suspect it won't be long before you are too (if you're not already.) Anyway, my list o' stuff will probably change when it gets cold, but for the time being I'm carrying an old Army LBE vest (which doesn't get your back as sweaty as a backpack) full of: Magellan Meridian GPS, extra batteries, cell phone, trade items (including two Harry Potter straws and a DVD of My Fellow Americans at the moment), LOTS of bug spray, some band-aids and antibacterial stuff, Gatorade, a couple of pens, my Clie PDA (which is more useful than I can tell you), paper, plastic bags, and some paper towels. For the moment, I also have a floppy tan boonie cap living in there, but that comes out the minute I hit the road - it's my GeoCap Have a total blast - I know you will! 8. Hey, you're absolutely right. I just never knew that the REAL reason I've been avoiding this activity was to prevent being hit with a baseball bat.... The person below me has no idea what Cthulhu is. ------------------------------------------------ "Is it peas?" - Ellen
  9. 23, female here. But my dog is a boy, and he's two - does that count? And then there's my mom, who probably won't go by herself but can't wait to go on a hunt with me, so what about her? ------------------------------------------------ "Is it peas?" - Ellen
  10. Have fun, quills! What are you gonna name your TB? ------------------------------------------------ "Is it peas?" - Ellen
  11. Gainesville's a really terrific town. It's pretty small, but there's always something to do - almost all of it related to UF. And you're right; the campus is absolutely gigantic... when I first got here it was hard for me to understand that I was walking around a school and not the rest of the city! I'm glad you got to visit - if Tennessee weren't so far away I'd suggest that you come back, because apparently we've got a ton of caches... ------------------------------------------------ "Is it peas?" - Ellen
  12. Bummer, Dusty... But I know your Army training taught you how to get out of the way like a good Mountaineer, right? And that's pretty cool, sbell! I knew a couple of kids who went to Rollins - it's a pretty campus. Was it Marine Corps JROTC that you were in? We were an Army unit, and I ADORED it - in fact, I almost went to West Point. But back then I wanted to be a veterinarian, and USMA was having none of that. So I came to UF instead, and it couldn't have been better. What did you study at Rollins? ------------------------------------------------ "Is it peas?" - Ellen
  13. I spent a lot of time deliberating over this very item - usually I use my email address (or part of it) or something else Gator-related. But I like the more game-centered name, and I like the way it sounds out loud - maybe something you would call over your shoulder as you were trotting past a Geomuggle on the way to a hunt, or something you could use as a mantra if you were starting to get frustrated... 14. Okay, I have to say, I think Renegade Knight is right: it rocks AND rules Thank you for the addition to our list of adjectives, Prime Suspect... got any more?? And sbell111, what service is that oak leaf cluster of yours from? I was a Cadet LTC in high school, but we only got "lozenges"... no oak leaves for us Wolfie ------------------------------------------------ "Is it peas?" - Ellen
  15. Hi, y'all, I just wanted to say that Geocaching is a fabulous thing - I mean, I knew it would be, but having found two cool virtual caches and getting ready to go on a hunt for a regular cache soon, now I can see it firsthand Of course, it wouldn't be much of a game if there weren't people to play it, so - thanks for 'caching, 'Cachers! Wolfie ------------------------------------------------ "Is it peas?" - Ellen
  16. Cool, thanks for the input. It's rather a limited supply at the Best Buy near my house, so I'm thinking of hitting the sports stores or Amazon. 109 bucks is definitely not bad, though... One thing I was wondering about when I was looking at what they had was what difference a color display would make (not that I have the money or the inclination to get one of those babies, of course, but it's interesting...) 17. Hi, y'all! Well, I just learned about this about a week ago, and I am so excited to get started - I think it sounds like a complete and total blast. But when I said "new" up there in the subject line, I really, really meant it - I don't even have a GPS yet, nor am I very familiar with how to use one. So here's my question: what's a good model, between $100 and maybe $180 or so, that's not overly complicated but does the job well? Thanks in advance for your help, and I'm looking forward to talking with all of you! Gonna Find It (as soon as I have a GPS and know how to use it, that is...)
