How do you act around caches in area inhabited whit venom snakes? Any special equipment or clothes?

OK, I’m US unit disabled (I come from country whit metric system)! Can you help? Why US topo map use 1:24k scale? Tried whit inch to foot to yard to mile rations and nothing seems to fit nicely in 1:24k scale.
