  1. the 550t has preloaded maps which are just as good as the Topo2008 maps and probably not as good as the 24K (I don't have 24K)
  2. I don't know about the tutorial, but I remember reading that if you copied the contents of the cd to a directory on your computer and installed from there, you would not be nagged to have the cd in your drive while it ran. I am playing with the regedit changing the location of the disc drive to the C: drive
  3. i have a very old version of Mapsource Topo v.3.00, there was a way to install the maps onto the computer without having to install the CD's while the program is running. I know you went into the registry. I remember the tutorial on this site
  4. Hello everyone! My memory was wiped clean on a format on my laptop, I know the last time I installed the maps there was a tutorial on how to install the maps onto the computer's hard drive and then not have to install the CD's or the DVD's when you access the map thru Mapsource, your help will be appreciated. Thanks
  5. With WAAS and Google Earth there is no reason the entire world sat view with terrain shaded relief cannot be done.
  6. Truthfully, I find 3.02 more accurate. 3.02 also has coastal data, bouys, depths, shipwrecks, etc. Topo has no marine data
  7. Looking for the best world map on DVD or CD, if it can work with my Garmin, all the more better.
  8. I still use the old Topo, for basic water navigation its OK

  10. I use both, 3.02 still has some stuff, mostly coastline stuff that is still relevant to me.
  11. The previous version 3.02 Topo has water detail, 2008 has none
  12. My old USA Topo was more accurate than 2008 and it had coastal and waterways data, go figure?
  13. I am kinda wondering why Google map people have not worked with Garmin or Magellan to make a worldwide steet detail and topo satellite view function in a GPSr...PN-20 is the closest with USA only.
  14. I pick up at least 3 birds with my Vista, I just upgraded to the HCx so that will be tested out in a South American flight in April, I usually hold it pressed against the window and get excellent reception.
  15. I installed all my maps on my new laptop and the Mapsource started acting strange, so I uninstalled all my maps one at a time and reinstalled the oldest to the newest, then I updated the both topos and I was good to go. I did the USA Topo hard drive trick with REGEDIT learned here on the Groundspeak forums.
  16. I got Topo 2008 and the off-road... follow road choice, select follow road and my VistaHCx goes autoroute
  17. Utter failure trying to back up an SD card I copied the contents of the SD into a folder then tried to back it into a spare SD card, I guess the file with the .unl is the source of the backup just being 100 mB of crap. Any workarounds?
  18. Then buy a 4 GB micro SD card, load the Topo's, CNs, Blue Charts and other things you need in the next 12 months on it, and I'm sure, you have all you need, even in the 2 GB limited img file. For 99,9% of the people it makes no sense to include e.g. Alaska, Hawaii and California, if they live in Oregon or New York. I know this topic has been beat to death but isn't there a mapset limit of 2025? There is a workaround, okay, youre right, sorry
