Earlier today I was reading a post by Jeremy and found out something I did not know. Jeremy is a veteran.
US Navy 1970-1972 active 1973-1976 Active Reserves
Quartermaster - that's Navigation in the Navy - different than the Army - think quarters of the compass/quarters of the wind for a sailing ship - it was extremely rewarding to learn to navigate by map, compass and sextant across thousands of mile of ocean. Learned the stars and constellations. Served pre-GPS - had to navigate the old ways.
Loved it and hated it. Mostly on Destroyers (small ships by Navy standards). Violently seasick at the beginning of every voyage, but never missed a minute of duty. Carried a sick bucket with me for first 2 or 3 days of every cruise and kept on keeping on - then all was fine for the rest of the trip. Few of us in the populated, smoggy, light-polluted developed areas have ever seen the beautiful star filled canopy like you see it out in the middle of nowhere in the ocean.

Thanks Miragee - I am guessing that since the service is currently available in one form in the premium side that it is unlikely to be made available on the free side.
That makes sense. (Business sense)
I've been thinking of becoming a premium member - not so much for the added benefits - more for helping support a great site and community. I am really enjoying this "sport/hobby/obsession. It only seems right to help support it even though I can do all I want to do without contributing.

I have been searching the fourm and I am sure this topic has been addressed, but I have been unable to find it if it has.
The SWAG topic prompts me to ask the related question - where can you find the nifty small zip lock baggies that I find in many small and micro caches? Much smaller than the sandwich or 1/2 sandwich sizes you can find at grocery stores. Like 1 inch by 3 inches, etc.
I searched online and found quite a few wholesale sources - like 1,000 per box. They are are quite cheap by the way, but I don't need 1,000. Staples and Office depot also have them, but in 1,000 each boxes (for about 5 times the price of wholesale distributors).
Craft stores?
Often I find caches with the plastic baggy in poor shape and leaking - it would be great to carry some new ones to replace the leaky ones.

Funniest cache I have yet found - Great Pumpkin - very realistic imitation pumpkin except how out of place it looks in Florida scrub maritime forest near the marsh and ocean.
Any help with proper formatting to post images will be appreciated.

Echo the comments about favorites being those that lead me to a fun location that I probably would never have found otherwise.
This cache container however is my favorite find so far. It is artificial but looks exactly like the real thing - except for being out of place in the scrub lands in a Florida marsh near the ocean.

In my weekly email from Groundspeak/GeoCache - which I really enjoy - there is a list of upcoming activites and new caches close to my location. It very helpfully includes distance and direction to the activity or cache.
When I request a list of caches close to my location or close to any point on the GeoCache site it also gives a distance measurement and direction in the left most column.
Would it be possible (not too difficult) to add this feature to the "List newest in (my state)" link that shows up to the right of the page when I go to "my account" in the "Search Options" box?
Florida is a big state and many of the newest caches are very far from me. The only way to determine the location is to click on each cache link and look at the included map.
Thanks in advance - it is small potatoes to do the clicking thing - love the site and love GeoCaching.

I am relatively new to GeoCaching. Found a reference to it on a financial/investment forum a month ago and got curious.
I am a long time hiker/camper and map and compass guy. Finally broke down about 10 years ago and bought a Garmin GPS 12 – mostly for canoeing and kayaking in Okefenokee Swamp and marsh flats in GA and Florida Coasts where everything looks the same and land marks are hard to find. Back tracking facility in the GPS has been just a wonderful thing several times on those trips.
Still using the GPS 12 and I am loving GeoCaching. Met a few great folks on line and by accident while looking for caches.

Do a lot of kayak and canoe trips and fishing - don't have any photos of caching yet - lots of camping and fishing.
Funny - I just learned of GeoCaching a month or 2 ago and within the first 2 days it occurred to me that Kayaks and caching would go well together and I thought of a perfect place for one, (Matanzas River ICW area near St. Augustine). Looked on the Google GeoCache map and found that someone was years ahead of me on this idea and spot - plus a dozen others are nearby.
