Transferring Geocaches I've found from a Garmin Montana to Apple MacIntosh
zoobum replied to SM325's topic in How do I...?
@SM325 Please keep us updated with your findings. I too am interested in such a feature on an Apple computer. Surprised actually at this point as to why GSAK hasn't built an Apple version yet, maybe the price to run on Apple App Store. Maybe you can run bootcamp and add Windows to your current machine just for this feature. also found this: https://gsak.net/board/index.php?showtopic=36395 -
Yeah, If I were to add descriptions to my FP they would be similar to yours i.e. tourist attractions, hype, new type haven't seen, etc. There were a few that were favorite for a location, view, or nice hike to cache.

It's funny how there is now a scoring system on how "Favorite" a cache is. So, I was on to something!!!!

In 2002 there were very few geocaches to find. Hunting benchmarks was something to do with your gps. Having a section on Geocaching.com gave cacher something to do, and something to log on site. The game needed to expand to live. If you look at early geocachers, many found a couple (literally) hid 1 or 2, and then, having nothing further to do in the game without extensive travel, abandoned it. Adding benchmarking was a brilliant move at that time. So where is it now? I missed it if they moved it or did away with it.

Yes, are there any new Labs coming out? Only see one on the SITE and its in Germany. There are no other ones? That can't be right, can it? if so where would I look to build one?

Cachly vs. GC app
zoobum replied to WearyTraveler's topic in Authorized Developer applications (API)
wouldn't this app still fall under the geocaching live api guidelines and there for mean to access all features you would need to be premium? -
Alternative for non Premium members
zoobum replied to fbax's topic in Authorized Developer applications (API)
this app is totally free, all you have to do is click the "look at the description on website" and you won't have to buy anything according the the Geocaching Live API rules as stated above. Simple and Clean layout too. Cachebot -

GRIN Shrink Dinks GRIN That's essentially what we've done with this cache. Except our take was, we put stage #1 on land so the cacher doesn't know what he's in for until arrival at GZ. It has gone over generally well with most folks. I am certain there are a few unlisted DNFs from the crowd not willing to have fun or take even the slightest risk. Wimps. yeah, i want to make it a little challenging with the underwater cache for folks that will attempt...and i also know that there are a lot of wusses out there but that is fine!!!

I was out one weekend on an event of caching in the islands of a nearby lake and had a water cache to attempt. We were waist deep in the water and out of nowhere a gator comes swimming by about 15 feet from us. It was crazy we kept looking though and let him go on with his business. Now that cache would have been worth a lot of points

I like the amount of finds that you have under your stats and in your account details, but I was thinking of a point system also. For instance lets say there is a cache that is difficulty 5 and terrain 5, you should get some high amount of points for that cache due to its difficulty/Terrain along with the find...just an incentive! Another idea is there is a cache that no one has found in like a year, you go there and find it, high points again for such a long time with out a find on that cache. And just one more for thought, there is a cache that has three dnf's and no maintenance on the cache you go out and find the cache...yes more points for you cus of the many dnf's. These are just my thoughts to make the fun a little more interesting and challenging. Feed back Please!!!! zoobum

iPhone / iPod touch software interest?
zoobum replied to btgeocacher's topic in GPS technology and devices
yes yes yes....mac and the iphone need an app that can support gpx files from the geocache site. Some app that is totally on its own with no internet would be great. An app with all the files right at your finger tip with no waiting, sort of like MacCaching. It is a pretty good app but only for the mac not iphone. App with the full cache description like the web page and a link to map it and other caches in the area. It has been fustrating tring to find a program but none exist...but it is true, many people want this app to come alive and be totally functional. I hate waiting for my iphone to load a webpage just to see the cache container size.... thanks
