  1. Well you probably do HAVE to have it running Vista. I can't stand vista myself what with all its problems, but with new laptops, especially high end machines, the hardware in them isn't and never will be supported for XP. So you could install XP on the machine but would struggle to find compatible drivers for everything. Although I do believe there is something of a modding community for drivers, so you may be able to find modded drivers to run on XP. Not really on topic but thought it might help if you do decide to attempt to keep running XP.
  2. Thanks for the detailed replies! Another question: What sort of software should I use for GPS navigation? I've found beelinegps and this seems perfect as it also includes geocaching features, but it is rather pricey for software, and only has a 30 day trial. Anyone know any good GPS software (with or without geocaching functions)?
  3. What piece of software would people recommend for geocaching on a Pocket PC? I'm looking for something that can do everyhing in one and is (preferably) free. Any opinions on what I should try?
  4. I have a habit of reading completely irrelevant wikipedia pages during my free time. I got interested and started reading about GPS. That led to geocaching. Luckily managed to borrow a Garmin eTrex Legend for my first 3 finds, and have just today purchased a pda and gps reciever off ebay today Hope everything works out well for my next, paperless, trip! Wikipedia FTW lol.
  5. Well theres 5 or 6 of us that have been a couple of times now. The line up is a bit different everytime. But were all aged 14-17 and I manage to organise everyone together, usually But a friends dad wants to come along now, wonder whether we should let the wrinklies in or not?
  6. pretty certain its wildlifebeaststudies.... sorry stuff like that annoys me and I have to find out or it drives me insane. But no, i must be wrong or the url dosnt exist But back on topic, yeah very nice for them to come back and replace it. I hope if I ever hide a cache it won't meet the same fate
  7. This made me LMAO! But as for the url, I'm really intrigued so im attempting to photoshop the text to make it clearer. No luck so far, will post back here if i get anything.
  8. Yeah mine too, im just being optimistic Thought I did get my provisional license the other day, yay!
  9. Can't believe people have gone out, found a few caches and are already back and have them logged! I have to organise these things and sort out bus routes and stuff, wish i could just drive out and get one. But I guess I've managed to convince a friend to try it out this afternoon with a local park one that we couldn't orginally be bothered with. I prefer something a bit more challenging tbh, but I'm just glad to get out of the house before we let the rabble in for the party oh, and merry xmas everyone!
  10. Really wish I could go tomorrow. Bored out of my skull, and I just don't seem to get as excited for xmas anymore. But there are no caches nearby for a quick visit and the rest of the team definately wont want to miss out on all their presents Ah well, guess I've got a lovely dinner to look forward to
  11. Well having only been geocaching twice now, I wouldn't say It's done alot for me. But thinking about it more I see that already the five of us have had two extremely enjoyable days! And everything else that geocaching can bring is second to that. Yes, we've become a better team, my navigation has improved and I'm already out of the house more (which I really enjoy, orienteering has been a big interest of mine for years, but now I have an excuse to go out regularly!). Now I can only hope that my fitness will improve, I'll get to see so many more new and interesting places and I'll get the chance to meet some new friends! Geocaching is definately something I will be sticking at for as long as I can, for all the reasons I've stated, but mostly for those enjoyable days out with friends!
  12. Wow, some of the stuff on here shows how much people really get into geocaching Unfortunately I can't drive yet and can't really afford to, so looks like its buses for the time being. But I will be putting alot of time into passing my tests in a month or two, then ill be getting a Fiat Punto given, but I'm still gonna be short of the insurance money Can't wait untill im on the roads though. It'll be no 4x4 but I don't really see the need for one round here. We'll probably just drive up into the lakes, park up and go up a mountain or two lol
  13. We're a group of 5 from an Air Cadet squadron in lancaster. Might be another addition to the team soon, hopefully. I'm the one organising everything and im 16 (17 in a couple of weeks, yay!). The rest of the team: 16 16 15 14 We've only visited 3 caches (picked up our first TB yesterday) so far, but everyone is enjoying it and hope to do alot more. But first we need to stop borrowing a Garmin and get one for ourselves! First post!
